Late this summer, The Holiday Shores Volunteer Fire Department finished a labor of love and remembrance in honor of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks. The memorial includes a piece of metal from one of the towers. The twisted and torn metal is a stark reminder of the viciousness of the attacks. The memorial includes a circular brick garden by the flag pole near the entrance of the fire station, surrounded by small trees and bushes. Many donations for the memorial, including building materials and landscaping from local businesses, were given to the project that is meant to honor the more than 300 firefighters who lost their lives that fateful day, as well as local firefighters for their dedicated service in the community.
