ACID BRASS
happy hour 3-6pm
Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis
The Saint Louis Brass Band Performs on March 14, 7:00 PM In conjunction with the current CAM exhibition Jeremy Deller: Joy in People, the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (CAM) presents the US premiere of a live rendition of Jeremy Deller’s Acid Brass (1997) on Thursday, March 14 at 7:00 PM. The award-winning Saint Louis Brass Band—the only British-style brass band in the St. Louis area—will perform acid house dance hits of the 1980s, creating a completely unique, intensely energetic, and playful musical mash-up. Jeremy Deller, one of Britain’s most significant contemporary artists believes that sometimes “art isn’t about what you make but what you make happen”. His work is often ephemeral and participatory—like Acid Brass. The performance brings together two very different British cultural traditions: the late 1980s popularity of technology-driven house music—associated with electronic beats, sampling, and all-night raves—and traditional brass bands—groups that include cornet and tenor horn players, primarily known for playing classical and big band favorites.

Every Game Right Here!
Arranged by composer Rodney Newton and originally performed by England’s renowned Williams Fairey Brass Band, Acid Brass features classic acid house anthems such as “What Time Is Love?” by KLF, “Can U Dance?” by DJ Fast Eddie, and “Cübik” by 808 State. The notion of the ‘mash-up’ has become familiar, but in 1997, when Acid Brass was first performed, this cross-pollination of musical styles was much less common.
BBQ AND BASKETBALL
Saint Louis Brass Band was founded in 1998 and has ranked among the top 200 brass bands in the world having held the third-place rating in North America from 2001 to 2004. The band consists of twenty-five brass and three percussion performers who work as college students, teachers, performers, doctors, and in various other career fields. More information about the band can be found at http://www.stlbb.org. Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis located at 3750 Washington Blvd. For complete information about this event and to purchase tickets call 314.535.0660 or visit the web site at camstl.org and click on the calendar. The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (CAM) presents, supports, and celebrates the art of our time. It is the premier museum in St. Louis dedicated to contemporary art. Focused on a dynamic array of changing exhibitions, CAM provides a thought-provoking program that reflects and contributes to the global cultural landscape. It is a site for discovery, a gathering place in which to experience and enjoy contemporary visual culture.

4 Foods That Aren’t As Healthy As You Think They Are 1) Non-fat ice cream: When dairy products zap out the fat, they often add in sugar and the calorie count can still stay high (one cup of fat-free vanilla ice cream can be as much as 340 calories and 42g of sugar). Plus, a little fat isn't a bad thing--it actually helps your belly feel full. Without that fat, it's easier to keep eating and eating. To make it healthier: Stick to brands with real ingredients, like milk, sugar, and cream, but limit yourself to half a cup (about the size of half a tennis ball), and top it with berries and in-season fruits.
obviously!): have just a few tablespoons as a snack, or 1/4 cup if you're making it a meal. 3) Dried fruit: It's fruit, just dried out...should totally be healthy! But it's not always. Some brands add sugar and syrups during the drying process to up the sweet factor, especially to things such as cranberries, which can be super-tart. To make it healthier: Buy brands that don't have added sugar or high fructose corn syrup listed in the labels--or just cut up fresh fruit and DIY!
2) Granola: You're smart, and probably already know that granola (and granola bars) can be super-crazy loaded with sugar (24.5g) and fat (30g)--one cup can have up to 600 calories! It can be easy to forget, since you so often see it on health-food shelves and, yes, in bulk bins.
4) Microwave popcorn: Popcorn is an excellent snack--filling, tasty, contains a good amount of fiber. But the bags you nuke in the microwave can be salt bombs, which also have lots of stuff like artificial butter and coloring.
To make it healthier: Find a variety that doesn't have sugar in the top three ingredients listed--or make your own, so you can control how much sugar goes in. And pay attention to portion sizes (I need this reminder,
To make it healthier: Pop your own on the stovetop, old-fashioned style. It's easy, you can control the amount of oil and salt, and it can save you money. Win, win...win!
