The Pupil Premium 2013-14 What is it? The pupil premium is funding allocated to schools for the specific purpose of boosting the attainment of pupils from low-income families. Funding is based on children who have registered for a free school meal at any point in the last 6 years, children that have been in care for more than six months and children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces. Why has it been introduced? The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. Whilst schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit we are required to publish online information about how we have used the Premium. For the academic year September 2012 to July 2013 our school received £99600 of Pupil Premium funding. For the financial year April 2013 to March 2014 our school has received £148500. The percentage of our pupils known to be eligible for free school meals is 22.5%. The national percentage is 26.7% (Primary) and 26.7% (Secondary 2012). During 2012- 2013 we used the Pupil Premium in the following ways: Teaching Consultant and associated costs to improve the quality of teaching across the school Additional part time staff in year 6 Additional Teaching Assistant staffing Increased Inclusion support Fischer Family Trust teacher – part time Extended schools support costs for vulnerable pupils Support for families with residential/travel/school costs.
