An aesthetic tour de force and an engineering marvel, Quivira commands a breathtaking setting at true Land’s End. Arguably the most daring and eclectic course Nicklaus has ever built, Quivira is a buckle-your-seat-belt thrill ride that offers an unforgettable test of golf from any set of tees. To mark the seventh anniversary of the world-class golf club in 2021, Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa Resort recently unveiled a ‘Lucky Seven’ package that allows guests to select a combination of seven activities that showcase the best the Quivira Los Cabos resort community has to offer, including culinary experiences as well as leisure and/or pampering activities, including: Hook & Cook. open-air, thatchedroof clubhouse and an oceanfront practice facility, Quivira has four comfort stations, notably the Oasis, which features Mexican specialties and a full bar. Sunset Tepee Experience. There’s nothing more sublime than dinner for two on the beach. Imagine a four-course meal served at sunset under the cover of your own tepee. The experience starts in time to celebrate sunset, announced by the ancestral sounds of conch shells, and continues over a leisurely two hours. The menu, which is prepared tepeeside by a resort chef, includes craft cocktails. Curated DJ music and a photographer also are included. Armonia Spa Immersion. The spa offers a complete menu of rejuvenating treatments to relax, revive and renew. Designed for self-renewal and administered by fully licensed spa therapists, guests may choose any combination of two treatments from among massage therapies, body scrubs, body wraps, spa facials or opt to customize their spa treatment for special needs. Guided Hike to the Old Lighthouse. Set above a jaw-dropping stretch of sheer granite cliffs at the exact place where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean, the fortress-like lighthouse known as Faro Viejo is a worthy destination for a guided hike. Dating to 1905 and the oldest standing structure in Los Cabos, this National Historic Monument has been the inspiration for poets, painters and photographers. Day Trip to Medano Beach. A two-mile crescent of sand lapped by calm waters, Medano Beach is the place to relax in Cabo San Lucas. This protected beach, its waves rarely higher than knee level, is the best place for a relaxing swim in all of Los Cabos. WELCOME I

suspect that there are few among us who remain untouched by the worldwide pandemic. Nothing associated with it is a given, and certainly so much has come at such a high price for Americans. By now we have all read stories of the courageous efforts of our devoted medical personnel on the front lines of an epidemic, the first responders who continually put their own live at risk on behalf of complete strangers. I am proud to say that DFW has been a leading example in these areas.

Photo - Chip Richie

Almost every phase of our lives has been disrupted over the past few months, including our publishing cycle. With that in mind, allow us to offer a break from the difficult news cycle with this new edition of Dallas Hotel Magazine, which we dedicate to the heroes in our community. Thank you all for your courage, and commitment. Our Fashion/Lifestyle editor, Holly Haber, knows Dallas like the back of her hand, especially when it comes to one of the area’s defining characteristics: shopping! In our cover story, Holly takes you through the top destinations around the area and uncovers a few exciting up and coming boutiques and unique hot spots that will help you shop ‘til you drop.

Carl Allen is the rarest of sportsmen. He’s a big game hunter, an angler and ardent Texas conservationist. He made his fortune in manufacturing then sold the company. Since then Carl’s been immersed (literally!) in what may be his greatest passion ever: treasure hunting on the high seas. Climb aboard for a close-up look. In an all-new Live Like a Local segment we take a micro view of one of Dallas’ coolest urban neighborhoods. Deep Ellum is anything but ordinary. We’ll explain the amazing history that got it started, as well as where it’s headed. We love Lone Star music. That’s why we’ve profiled some of the most prolific Lone Star artists who’ve left their mark on our musical consciousness including Steve Miller, Joe Ely, Michael Martin Murphey, LeeAnn Rimes and more. With this issue we enter the word of Texas Music Hall of Fame artist Monte Warden. His kitschy band, The Wagoneers, is one of the state’s favorite rockabilly groups. But Warden is taking a risky new musical step and explains it all in a special profile by David Muscari. Finally, this issue’s Parting Shot comes from veteran Texas journalist John McCaa, who worked in Dallas for many years. He offers an inspirational moment of clarity on our post-pandemic city.

A significant part of our publication’s legacy is about supplying readers with details on a series of events each month designed to assist in filling up social calendars. There is always something to do in our area. Check out all the concerts, festivals, dance, Broadway performances and more unfolding on stages all over north Texas, scheduled on nearly every night of the week. We have plenty of schedules for you to peruse. We also provide details on a wide selection of chic restaurants, super cool local watering holes, extraordinary shopping, and more. And, as always, stay safe and healthy, and by all means enjoy this brand new edition of Dallas Hotel Magazine, with our compliments. It’s the “definitive guide for discerning visitors to Big D”

“The Preserve is a perfect vacation spot for our family,” said one member from Texas. “We love the mild climate, the sunshine, and ranch-style living without the maintenance. Here, we find a sense of community and easy access through the Monterey Regional Airport.”

The seeds for Santa Lucia Preserve were planted 30 years ago when developers announced plans for a “community preserve,” an economically viable way to protect the beauty and history of the land with emphasis on preserving its natural splendor. Embracing the dedication to conservation, community, and culture, The Preserve’s development footprint comprises just 2,000 acres, including homes, homesites, golf course, clubs, and nearly 100 miles of trails. Custom-designed homes feature unique and often award-winning architecture in a variety of styles built to complement the landscape. Green design and sustainable building are highly encouraged.

Abundant wildlife makes its home in this natural paradise, surrounded by old growth redwood groves, oak-studded mountains, grassy meadows, and flowing streams. Even playing The Preserve Golf Club has been compared to “enjoying a hike through nature with a golf club in your hand.” Golf course architect Tom Fazio created a stunning layout that offers a challenge, while showcasing wideopen views of the mountains, mammoth oaks, and resident wildlife.
