program guide
The perfect exhibition for a hot Dallas summer, Coastlines: Images of Land and Sea features images of the coast. Presenting more than sixty paintings, photographs, and works on paper, the exhibition explores how the visual artists of the modern period (1850–present) have represented coastal landscapes. Artists featured in the exhibition include Edward Hopper, Childe Hassam, Berthe Morisot, and Willem de Kooning. To make the experience come alive, the exhibition also features an immersive sound installation. Coastlines opens alongside The Lens of Impressionism: Photography and Painting Along the Normandy Coast, 1850–1874, on view through May 23, 2010, to give visitors both an expansive and an in-depth portrayal of the coastal experience over time and in various media.
Sound Installation in Coastlines: Images of Land and Sea Experience a unique multilayer sound installation in the Coastlines exhibition designed by graduate students and faculty in the Arts and Technology program at UT Dallas, in collaboration with students from the Université du Sud Toulon-Var in Toulon, France. This sound installation is an education initiative undertaken in part with the support of FRAME (French Regional and American Museum Exchange).
