Betty Blake is a member of the Munger Society. She has been involved with the DMA for nearly sixty years and recently commented, “Nothing has given me more pleasure than to see the DMA grow into the fantastic museum that it is. I am delighted to see the growth in all the collections due to the fine work of the curators. I will continue to be a part of the Museum far into the future—forever really.” Betty’s love of art started when she was fifteen years old and a student at Madame Chapon’s School in Paris in 1931. As a young girl, she went to the Louvre three times a week and found the 18th- and 19th-century French art captivating. She then asked herself—what is being done today? That singular question set Betty on a path of discovery that led her to collect modern and contemporary works throughout her life. She has chosen to share several of her pieces with the Dallas Museum of Art as gifts that will last forever. These works will teach, inspire, enliven, evoke emotion, promote conversation, and carry on the fine tradition of art in people’s lives—this is Betty’s vision.

The Dallas Museum of Art would not be the museum it is today without amazing gifts from individuals who love art and understand its importance in everyone’s life. The gifts are varied but have one thing in common—all have made a difference. Of the more than 23,000 works in the DMA’s collections, over 16,000 are gifts. Throughout the decades, these bold, inspired collectors have helped shape the encyclopedic collections of the Dallas Museum of Art. what you need to do Anyone can make a planned gift to the Dallas Museum of Art. It is as simple as including the DMA in your estate plans. Planned gifts provide resources beyond your lifetime and secure a foundation of financial stability for the Museum. The simplest way to make a planned gift to the Dallas Museum of Art is through a bequest in your will. You may designate a specific area to support, including endowment, education, exhibitions, acquisitions, and conservation. Undesignated bequests are the most beneficial, allowing the Museum to use the funds where they are most needed. Bequests can be based on specific amounts of an estate or a percentage of an estate, which may allow your gift to become greater. Your plans may include: • Naming the DMA as a beneficiary of your will, retirement plan, or life insurance policy • Designating the DMA to receive assets of a charitable remainder trust • Making a promised gift of art Your financial advisor can help you determine which gift arrangement is right for you. This may include retirement plan assets, life insurance, charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, charitable lead trusts, and gifts of art.

reasons to have a will Having a will allows you to retain control over the distribution of your assets. You can provide for heirs or charities, name executors, choose guardians for minors, and minimize or eliminate your estate taxes.
