Saak teen veearts word teruggetrek Deur Isabel Venter Die saak teen ‘n veearts wat daarvan beskuldig is dat hy renosters sonder die nodige permitte onthoring het, is Maandag deur die Staat teruggetrek nadat dit intussen aan die lig gekom het dat hy wel oor die nodige permitte beskik het. ‘n Merkbaar-verligte dr. André Charles Uys (38), ‘n wildveearts van Thabazimbi, het Maandag vlugtig in die landdroshof op Louis Trichardt verskyn, waar sy saak te ruggetrek is. Hy sal nou ‘n getuie word vir die Staat in hulle saak teen mnr. Jacques

Els (37). Els word daarvan beskuldig dat hy verlede jaar ongeveer 30 renostherho rings van wyle mnr. Tom Fourie (51), die destydse bestuurder van die Maremani Natuurreservaat, aangekoop het. Els het homself aan die polisie oorgegee met Fourie se tweede hofverskyning en is op R30 000 borg vrygelaat. Uys is in Januarie vanjaar deur die polisie se spesiale eenheid teen georganiseerde misdaadeenheid, die Valke, by die hof gearresteer. Volgens Uys en sy regsverteenwoordiger, adv. Albrecht Pieterse, is Uys deur die ondersoekbeampte in die saak versoek om by die hof op Musina aan

te meld of hy word summier gearresteer. “Niemand het my voor die tyd kom vra wat my kant van die saak is nie,” het Uys Maandag buite die hof aan die Zoutpans berger gesê. Die polisie het destyds bevestig dat Uys gearresteer is, nadat hy in Oktober 2009 die 15 renosters van die Maremani Natuurreservaat se horings afgehaal het sonder die nodige permitte. Volgens Uys is hy deur Fourie gehuur om die renosters se horings te verwyder. Dit is glo gedoen om die renosters op die plaas te beskerm teen stropers. (Vervolg op p. 3)

Die man word sedert sy arrestasie in die polisieselle aangehou en het Vrydag in die disktrikshof hier verskyn om ‘n borgaansoek te bring. Hy moes egter die naweek ook in die selle deurbring, nadat sy saak uitgestel is tot hierdie week Dinsdag omdat sy aansoek vir regshulp

nog nie afgehandel was nie. Teen Dinsdag was die man se aansoek steeds nie afgehandel nie en hy sal in aanhouding bly tot en met sy volgende hofverskyning op Vrydag, 1 Julie, waarna sy regsverteenwoordiger na verwagting gereed sal wees om ‘n borgaansoek te bring. Dit het intussen aan die lig gekom dat die ouma van die dogtertjie haar verlowing met die man verbreek het kort voor die man se arrestasie.

By die uitgang van die parkeerterrein, digby die hoek van Songozwi- en Burgerstraat, moes motors gly-gly deur die olie beweeg. Dit is flink opgeruim nadat dit onder die aandag van die verkeersdepartement gebring is.

A well-known businessman from Madombidza, Prince Mulala Ludere, has had another run-in with the law. The 40-year-old Ludere appeared in the Louis Trichardt Regional Court on Monday, together with five co-accused on a charge of the illegal possession of a firearm. He appeared together with Tsepo Moepi (39) of Seshego, Alfred Nkuna (40) of Mamelodi, Lesetja Reuben Moloto (39) of Polokwane, Christopher Maleka of Polokwane and Jeffrey Nnkwamato Maphala (45) also of Mamelodi. The group’s appearance follows Moepi and Nkuna’s arrest in December last year. According to information, the two were arrested after local police received

a tip-off regarding a robbery that was being planned. This led to the pair's arrest near Eltivillas on December 28 last year. When the police searched the vehicle that they were driving, they found two unlicensed 9mm pistols. Following Moepi and Nkuna’s arrest, they implicated their coaccused, who were subsequently arrested. Initially, charges of conspiracy to commit a robbery were also brought against the six accused. This charge was later dropped, due to a lack of evidence. After a brief appearance, all six were released on bail. Moepi and Nkuna were released on R2 000 each, while the others were released on R5 000 each. During their court appearance,

the six accused were unwilling to pose for a photo, saying that it was their “constitutional right” not to have their pictures taken. It was not Ludere’s first appearance in court and he is currently out on medical parole, following a previous conviction. He was also arrested as a suspect in 2007 in connection with the daring daytime armed robbery at the Khoja’s Modern Store in 2005. The case was later withdrawn against Ludere, due to a lack of evidence. During the robbery, Mr Ghelani was brutally gunned down and his 84-year-old father, Mr Baboo Mohanial Ghelani, was wounded. The case against the six was postponed until July 25 for further investigation.

Indian pioneer passes away A respected senior member of one of the pioneering business families in Louis Trichardt, Mr. Noor Ayob, passed away last week at the age of 84. Noormohammed Hussain Ayob was born on August 1 in 1927. He schooled in Louis Trichardt from 1935 to 1944, when he left to assist his mother with the family business in Ottoshoop (Marico District) after the death of his father. He returned to Louis Trichardt in 1949, where he lived and worked until his retirement from his business, H. Ayob, in town. He leaves his wife Zainub, a son and daughter, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

The search is on for Limpopo high school learners to take part in the first round of the national HIP2B² iThink Challenge, which will take place at Merensky High School in Tzaneen on Tuesday, July 26. The annual challenge is a key touch point for Mark Shuttleworth’s HIP2B² initiative, which was founded to promote the study of maths, science and technology-related subjects. These subjects are directly linked to analytical thinking and problem solving, proven to be critical skills for budding South African entrepreneurs. More than 5,000 learners from Grades 8 to 11 are expected to compete in the regional rounds, which will coincide with the roll-out of National Science Week (Monday 1 until Friday 5 August). The Department of Science and Technology celebrates science during the annual awareness week with a number of initiatives, including the HIP2B² iThink Challenge, which is implemented across all nine provinces in conjunction with the South African Agency for Science and Technology (SAASTA). The Limpopo regional round will be hosted by HIP2B² Brand Ambassadors Chantel Schoeman, Christoff Coetzee, Dikeledi Kgomo, Dumisani Zitha and Genevieve Botha. Each school can enrol up to three teams, and each team must consist of four core team members and four support members – eight in total. The winners of the Limpopo regional round will then compete in a digital round against the other eight provincial winners. The top three teams from the digital round will then be flown to Cape Town in September to go head to head against one another. The winning team will secure the HIP2B2 iThink Champion title, and each of its members will receive a branded team laptop, in addition to a host of prizes. Twenty-seven ANC councillors resign The Makhado Municipality is likely to have byelections in seven of its wards. This comes after several of its recently inaugurated ANC ward councillors tendered their resignations. The sudden resignation of councillors has affected various municipalities in Vhembe, such as the Vhembe District, Thulamela and Makhado Municipality. Eighteen years for rape and murder One of the suspects who had been causing fear by terrorising the Levubu farming community for some time, has been sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment in the Louis Trichardt Regional Court, after he was found guilty of murder. Ndondeni Davhana (27) has been found guilty of kidnapping Ms Ndivhudzannyi Mavhungu Mudau of Tshivhilidulu village in the Tshakhuma area before raping and killing her on May 18 last year. The incident happened in the morning while Mudau was on her way to work. Miss Mudau was the breadwinner in her family and worked at the Martinas Farm in Levubu. Although the incident happened in the morning, Mudau’s body was found at about 17:00 that day. The police report revealed that her pants were lying next to her legs and she was undressed. The spokesperson for the Levubu police, W/O Solly Mukhola, said on Monday that the police were happy with the sentencing and appreciated the efforts shown by members of the community who played their part, so that the culprit could be brought to book.

We are therefore going to fast-track the by-election process, so that we don’t allow a vacuum in terms of service delivery,” he said. The seven ward councillors who resigned are Edward Madzhie Ndou (Ward 4), Martha Sabinah Rekhotso (Ward 6), Daniel Mbhazima Mabunda (Ward 10), Richard Eric Chauke (Ward 11), Elizabeth Mudau (Ward 15), Sylvia Mahlomola Machethe (Ward 18) and Leah Hlangwani Maphaha (Ward 38). Ludere added that the resignation of councillors was a result of one of the Polokwane conference’s resolutions that there should not be dual responsibilities for public servants. “You are either a public servant or a councillor. This is the decision of the ANC that we are implementing. We need councillors to concentrate on their responsibilities and public servants on their jobs and nothing else, because if a public servant can become a councillor, it will affect service delivery,” emphasized Ludere. Makhado Municipality is not the only area that has suffered from resignations. In the Thulamela Municipality, seven ANC PR councillors resigned, whereas another six ANC councillors resigned from the council of the Vhembe District Municipality. The regional secretary of the ANC in the Vhembe District, Mr Khathutshelo Netshifhefhe, confirmed that 27 ANC councillors had resigned from the three municipalities. “It is only at Musina and Mutale that we did not have any resignations from councillors,” he said. He added that they are currently interacting with the Independent Electoral Commission to replace the PR councillors. “We have a reserve list of ANC councillors who will replace the PR councillors at the affected municipalities. At ward level, we will have to wait for the by-elections,’ said Netshifhefhe.

A 21-year-old man from Filabusi village outside Beit Bridge died, after falling into a mine shaft while in a drunken stupor, police have said. The local police spokesperson, Sgt Loveness Mangena, said the body of Mr Saddam Ncube of Zesa Ncube’s homestead was discovered on Tuesday in a 50-metre-deep mine shaft at Billsluck Mine in the Amazon area outside Beit Bridge, by a worker. “According to our preliminary investigations, the victim was spotted on Monday night, drinking 750 ml of 'hot stuff' at a local kiosk with a friend. He later left the kiosk on his own without informing his friend where he was going. The following morning, Ncube was found dead in a mine shaft at Billsluck. We suspect that he could have fallen into the shaft while drunk, and we are still investigating,” she said. The body was taken to a local hospital mortuary for a post-mortem. “As police we would like to urge people to desist from excessively consuming alcohol to avoid such incidents in which lives are unnecessarily lost,” Mangena said.

Well-known Limpopo businessman and philanthropist, Mr Robert Mukhwathi, says he will never forget the nasty experience he had at the hands of the police. Mukhwathi (34), of Makuya outside Thohoyandou, was nursing his injuries and was in leg irons at the Tshilidzini Hospital when the Zoutpansberger visited him. He had sustained a cut to the head, injuries to his right hand and shoulder and a swollen back. Mukhwathi, who was charge with the pointing of a firearm after the incident, was at pains to narrate his nasty ordeal. He alleges that police assaulted him for no apparent reason and later took R25 000, his pistol and a 3G Internet modem from him, before returning his car keys. Mukhwathi, who owns a bus and construction company, said he was on his way home from collecting takings from his transport business at Louis Trichardt on Saturday morning, when two cars tried to stop him. “I had hardly travelled more than 500m from town when I noticed a car with flashing lights trying to stop me, but did not see that it was the police,” he said. He said that, fearing that they might be robbers, he did not stop as he had a substantial amount of money with him. “I drove as fast as I could as I feared that it could be thugs who wanted to rob me of

my money and other belongings. When I reached Tshisahulu, I found that a roadblock had been set up and I stopped right there. Before I could figure out what was happening, I noticed that two cars had already closed me in. They ordered me to get out of my car, which I did,” he said. He said five police officers came to him, pointing fire-arms and after opening the door, one policeman hit him with the butt of a gun, while the other handcuffed him. He alleges that the police then forced him to the ground and started kicking him. While being kicked, Mukhwathi said he heard the voices of onlookers who were protesting about the police’s actions. “I think that made the police stop assaulting me. They gave me my car keys and allowed me to go, but without my belongings. I went straight to the police station and tried to lay a charge,” he said. Mukhwathi said the police at Thohoyandou said he could not open a case before seeing a doctor, as he was bleeding too much. “I was at the hospital being attended to when a call came that some policemen who were working at the hospital should handcuff me and that I was under arrest. This surprised me a lot because if there was something wrong on my part, they could have arrested me on the spot where they found me at the road-

block." He said he suspected that their colleagues at Thohoyandou might have told them that he was opening a case against them and they were trying to cover up their mess. Mukhwathi is very worried that it seems the police knew that he had money and they were just after it because, after taking the money, they could not find any reason to detain him and this is why they did not lock him up right there. “I now have a problem with the police. All along, I thought that they were there to safeguard us,” Mukhwathi, adding that he will never trust a policeman again. Limpopo police spokesperson Col Mohale Ramatseba said they are aware of the allegations. “A full investigation is underway and, if the allegations are true and our members are involved, steps will be taken,” he said. According to him, they have opened a case of resisting arrest, reckless or negligent driving and the pointing of a firearm against Mukhwathi. Meanwhile, Mukhwathi opened a case of theft, malicious damage to property and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm against the police. He appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate's Court on Tuesday and was released on R500 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on July 22.

Classes are offered in drawing and sketching, painting with different media, silk painting, mozaic, pyrography (burning on wood), origami and calligraphy. Drawing is a global skill, comprising various separate perceptual skills. Insette rondom drie projekte belangrik

One wonders how long it would take for the authorities to wake up … At the beginning of February, the Zoutpansberger reported on the new road signs along the Vivo road that incorrectly indicate the Louis Trichardt/Vivo road as the R578. The specific road is in fact the R522, with the R578 being the Elim/Giyani road. To date, nothing has been done to rectify the erroneous road signs. One resident did, however, try to alleviate motorist’s confusion by printing out stickers, indicating the correct road number, and pasting it over the incorrect number, just prior to the annual Kremetart Cycle Race, on the sign boards from Louis Trichardt to Schoemansdal. Voëlkykers beloon tydens KNP-besoek Birdlife Soutpansberg se uitstappie na Shingwedzi in die Kruger Nasionale Park (KNP) het die afgelope naweek vir baie opwinding gesorg. Vrydag, sommer met die intrapslag, is die voëlkykers begroet met twee leeumannetjies wat reg langs die pad ‘n buffel platgetrek het. “Dit is ongelooflik die krag wat die twee leeus het. Na ‘n paar uur se rus het hulle die volwasse buffelbul ongeveer 50m die veld ingesleep en rustig aan’t vreet gegaan,” vertel Birdlife Soutpansberg se Barry Fourie. Die karkas het vir hulle Saterdag ‘n verdere bonus opgelewer met die teenwoordigheid van Witrugaasvoëls, wat rustig gesit en wag het vir die leeus op plek te maak. In totaal is daar 86 voëlspesies die naweek geïdentifiseer wat, volgens Fourie, ‘n billike getal is

as mens ‘n bitter koue naweek in ag neem. Voor die tyd was daar ook ‘n kompetisie tussen klub lede om te skat hoeveel spesies geïdentifiseer sou word. Die prys is gedeel deur Robyn Taylor en Danelle Fourie, met skattings van onderskeidelik 85 en 87 spesies. As deel van die besoek aan die KNP het prof. Peter Taylor van Univen beide Vrydag- en Saterdagaand elektroniese apparaat uitgesit wat vlermuise se geluide en verbyvlugte registreer. Veertien spesies is geïdentifiseer en 618 verbyvlugte is getel. Die meeste daarvan was Vrydagaand, toe die temperatuur nog redelik warm was. Prof Taylor het ook Saterdagaand ‘n kort vertoning gelewer rondom die nut van vlermuise in die natuur en die voordele wat hulle vir die mens inhou. Daar was ook ‘n kompetisie rondom die hoeveelheid

vlermuis-spesies wat opgeneem sou word. Frances Taylor het met die prys weggestap, met ‘n skatting van 10 spesies “Ons was daarna ook bevoorreg om na natuurfoto’s van twee professionele fotograwe uit Engeland te kyk. Hulle neem tot 600 foto’s per dag en spandeer dan hulle aande om die foto’s uit te sif,” vertel Fourie. Die naweek se totale natuurwaarnemingskompetisie is deur die Corbett-gesin gewen, met ‘n totaal van 1 185 punte uit ‘n moontlike 2 815 punte. “Dankie aan almal wat die naweek meegemaak het en ‘n baie spesiale dank aan Peter Taylor en ook vir Tobie en Molly van den Heever vir die kosreëlings,” het Fourie gesê. Met drie groot projekte wat vir die Soutpansberg beplan word, is dit belangrik dat inwoners vroegtydig insette lewer. Die Soutpan Sonenergieprojek is tans in die finale bestekopnameverslag-fase en kommentaar moet voor 27 Julie vanjaar gelewer word. Daar word beplan om 28MW elektrisiteit op te wek oor ‘n gebied van 72 hektaar onder sonpanele op gedeeltes van die plaas Zuurbult langs die Vivo/ Alldays-pad. ‘n Organiese komposprojek

word ook beplan in die Dendronomgewing en daar moet onder meer aansoek gedoen word vir ‘n afvalbestuurslisensie, asook ‘n waterverbruikerslisensie. Die doel van die projek is om hoenderafval te vermeng met kalk en ander produkte om ‘n organiese kompos produk te verkry. Kommentaar moet voor 17 Julie vanjaar ingehandig word. Dan is Coal of Africa Limited (CoAL) se voorlopige grondwater-impakstudie vir die Makhado Steenkoolmyn net noord van die Soutpansberg ook reeds

Wetgewing

Te veel lisensies afgekeur, meen kenner Sowat 46% van alle aansoeke vir vuurwapenlisensies wat vanaf 1 Oktober verlede jaar ingedien is, is afgekeur. George Nell, prokureur en kenner van die nuwe Wet op Beheer van Vuurwapens, meen dat te veel lisensies die afgelope paar maande afgekeur word. “Dit is ongelukkig so dat beamptes nie hulle werk ordentlik doen nie. Ons sien dit met die appèlsake waar lisensie toegeken word omdat personeel gefouteer het.” Nell glo ook dat polisie minister Nathi Mthethwa se sperdatum van einde Julie vir die verwerking van alle aansoeke om vuurwapenlisensies, druk op die sentrale vuurwapenregisterkantoor plaas en aansoeke dus foutiewelik afgekeur word. Dit blyk uit die polisie se

amptelike syfers dat 61,5% van appélle verlede maand toegestaan is. Die wet bepaal dat ‘n aansoeker binne 90 dae moet appelleer teen die afkeuring van ‘n lisensie. Die koste beloop R500 per appél. Om deesdae ‘n nuwe vuurwapen te koop, beteken dat jy tot drie jaar kan wag voor ‘n lisensie uitgereik word sodat jy uiteindelik die wapen kan gebruik. Daar is egter ‘n wet wat bepaal dat ‘n vuurwapeneienaar tydelike magtiging toegestaan mag word om ‘n vuurwapen te besit. Die vuurwapenwet, Wet 60 van 2000, bevat ‘n artikel, bekend as Artkel 21, wat bepaal dat tydelike magtiging om ‘n vuurwapen te besit uitgereik mag word. Volgens Willem Smit, ‘n advokaat van die hoërhof van Suid-Afrika, mag ‘n persoon wat reeds in besit

van ‘n bevoegdheidsertifikaat is, die registrateur nader om tydelike magtiging aan hom uit te reik om onmiddellik die vuurwapen te mag besit en te gebruik. Vorm-SAPD 518 moet hiervoor ingevul word. Regulasie 23 (2) (a) bepaal dat tydelike magti ging minstens sewe dae voor die beplande datum waarop besit van die vuurwapen geneem word, ingedien word. Die registrateur en sy beamptes het dan sewe dae om ‘n aansoeker se aansoek te ondersoek, te beoordeel en tot ‘n besluit te kom. Well-known Angus and Melanie Macdonald celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at Mountain View Hotel on June 26 with family and friends. Angus, a successful Bonsmara farmer of the farm Zwartrandjies, south of Louis Trichardt, is now 88 and his lovely wife, Melanie, is 87. On July 2, the Soutpansberg will play host to the third annual Monster Rock Fest organized by Blitzmachine, a local band from Louis Trichardt. The aim of the fest is to create a platform where local bands can perform with bigger bands from Gauteng. The profit of this year’s Monster Rock Fest 2011 will be given to local charities, which will still be chosen. The Monster Rock Fest started three years ago and was known as the Tzaneen Bush Rock Fest. Eight bands performed on one stage and the attendance was around 150 people. The fest moved to Louis Trichardt last year, and the name changed to Monster Rock Fest. Eleven bands performed on one stage and the attendance was around 450 people. Now in its third year, 20 bands will perform on two stages, including the bands Winterstasie, Cry Out Riot, Die Zefferband, Die Vinyls, Blitzmachine, Steph Smit, Stereowake, 35 Second Remain and Pyro Techniques. Metal bands include

Riddare av Koden, Tamla Kahn, Manbeast, Milaats, The Random Article, The Soundhole Project, Raging Nation, Sideprojekt, Dudes in Training, and Electro Velocity. It is estimated that a 1 000 people will attend this year’s fest. Online tickets cost R100 per person or R120 per person if purchased at the gate. En nóg minder met vis sonder sy tierlantyntjies en bottersmeersels kan klaarkom. In een van die grootste studies ter wêreld oor diëte en vetsug, is bevind die meeste lande se dieët-riglyne is nie in die kol nie en onvoldoende om vetsug te voorkom, luidens ’n ver klaring van die Rooivleis Produsenteorganisasie (RPO). Ingevolge die studie is ’n lae GIdieët, hoog in proteïne, in die kol vir gewigsverlies. In dié studie wat deur agt Europese navorsingsentrums onder leiding van die fakulteit van lewenswetenskappe (LIFE) van die Kopenhagen Universiteit onderneem is, is bevind dat mense wat gewig wil verloor, minder verfynde stysel soos brood en rys moet eet en meer kos wat hoog is in proteïene, soos maer vleis, laevetsuiwelprodukte en bone. Altesame 772 families, onder wie 938 volwassenes en 827 kinders, het aan die Europese Diogenes-dieëtstu die deelgeneem. Die doel daarvan was om die amptelike dieëtriglyne in Europa te vergelyk met ’n dieët gebaseer op die jongste kennis oor die belangrikheid van proteïene en koolhidrate om die eetlus te beheer. Die resultate is in die New England Journal of Medicine gepubliseer, het die RPO-woordvoerder in die verkla ring gesê. Luidens die studie het 938 mense met gewigsprobleme aanvanklik ’n dieët gevolg waarin 800 kalorieë per dag oor ’n tydperk van agt weke inge neem is. Op die dieëtplan het hulle gemiddeld 11 kilogram verloor.

Daarna is hulle by vyf verskillende laevet dieëttipes ingedeel, wat hulle vir ses maande moes volg om te bepaal watter dieët die doeltreffendste is om te voorkom dat hulle weer gewig optel. Die families het ten tyde van die projek kundige leiding van dieëtkundiges ontvang en is ook versoek om bloed- en urinemonsters vir ontleding te verskaf. Die vyf diëte waarmee die deelnemers getoets is, is gekenmerk deur verskillende proteïeninhoude en die glukemiese inhoud het ook verskil. Die groep wat op die hoë proteïene dieët met ’n lae GI was, was die enigstes wat hulle gewig gehandhaaf het ná die aanvanklike verlies. In vergelyking het die lae proteïen/hoë GI-groep weer gemiddeld 1,67 kg opgetel. ’n Dieët met ’n hoë inhoud van proteïene bevat baie proteïenryke kos soos maer vleis, pluimvee, vis, eiers en laevet-suiwelprodukte. Bone en neute bevat ook hoë vlakke van proteïen. Die uitslag van dié studie is in pas met die nuutste navorsing wat in Suid-Afrika op rooivleis gedoen is. Dit het bevind Suid-Afrikaanse rooi vleis is ’n hoë gehalte proteïen wat al die noodsaaklike aminosure verskaf. Maer Suid-Afrikaanse skaapvleis bevat ook minder totale vet as wat voorheen geglo is. Verder is Suid-Afrikaanse rooivleis ryk in verskeie minerale, soos yster, sink, magnesium en selenium, sowel as vitamiene B1, B2. B3. B6 en B12. Die wonderlike ding van die wet is dat dit ons gewone mense die reg gee om te begin terugslaan. Ons kan na baie jare van gefrustreerd noodwendig die slagoffer wees, bietjie begin rug reguit maak en sê ons hou nie daarvan om uitgebuit te word nie. Ons almal het die klein jakkalsies wat ons wingerde verniel. Dit is daardie dinge wat aan ons krap en krap en die bloeddruk stadig laat styg. Uiteindelik lei dit tot ‘n blindelingse woede en dan begin selfs die mees gewone man se persoonlikheid verander. Die sagmoedige en gemoedelike man raak dan sommer onredelik en onbeskof. In my geval is dit die besighede wat jou teister met hulle direkte bemarkingsmetodes. Daardie oproep wanneer jy op jou besigste is, of laat in die aand wanneer jy alles behalwe lus is om daardie polis te koop. Dit is die irriterende SMS’e, die e-posse wat ongevraagd opdaag en die pamflette wat in posbusse ingedruk word of oor die muur gegooi word (tot groot vermaak van die honde, wat dit letterlik verskeur). Deur die jare het ek egter al ‘n

strategie begin uitwerk teen die fyn aanslae van die operateurs. Dit is nou al so erg dat ek die oproepe begin geniet. Ja, die gewone man het ook sadistiese neigings... Dit begin gewoonlik so:

Nuwe projekkoördineerder vir LiN Media

Me. Candice Dabner is aangestel as projekkoördineerder van LiN Media, die sambreelorganisasie wat 10 gemeenskapskoerante in Limpopo verteenwoordig. Sy het ‘n B Comm-graad in bemarkingsbestuur aan die Universiteit van Pretoria verwerf en daarna by ‘n reklamemaatskappy in Johannesburg gewerk. In haar pos sal sy alle projekte en aktiwiteite van LiN Media bestuur, wat nou ook (vir die eerste keer sedert die maatskappy se stigting) ‘n eie kantoor het. Die kantoor is in King Edwardstraat in Tzaneen. Een van die dienste wat LiN aanbied, is om skakeling tussen die tien koerante te koördineer. Dit behels onder meer dat adverteerders ‘n eenstopdiens gebied word, wat behels dat advertensies in enige of al die LiN Media-koerante deur die sentrale kantoor geplaas kan word. Dit vereenvoudig en

vergemaklik skakeling met die koerante, wat oor die hele provinsie versprei is. Gesamentlik publiseer dié koerante ‘n raps meer as 50 000 eksemplare per week en bied hulle ‘n lesertal van sowat 450 000 per week, wat ongeëwenaard is.

Skokboek oor plaasmoorde kom om slagoffers te onthou Die broerskind van ’n vermoorde Bosveldse boer van Alma skryf ’n skokboek oor plaasmoorde en aanvalle om seker te maak sy oom “word nie net een van die land se misdaadstatistieke” nie. Mnr. Frik Hermann (78), ‘n skrywer en boer van die plaas Hartebeespoort, se ontbinde lyk is op Dinsdag, 8 Februarie, in sy plaashuis gevind. Hy was vasgebind en vermoedelik reeds etlike dae dood toe hy gevind is. Dr. Dirk Hermann, adjunk-uitvoerende hoof van die vakbond Solidariteit, het vandeesweek aan LiN Nuus gesê “ons dink (in die boek) aan almal wat die afgelope sowat 20 jaar wreed op plase en hoewes aangeval en vermoor is. Ons vertel hulle storie. “Dis my manier om nie toe te laat dat oom Frik vergeet word nie,” het hy gesê. Die boek, Treurgrond, wat aanstaande maand bekendgestel word, word nasionaal en internasionaal versprei. Dit het ’n ouderdomsbeperking van agttien. Hermann jnr. het destyds na sy oom se dood ’n brief aan pres. Jacob Zuma geskryf om sy stem te verhef oor misdaad en die geweldige hartseer en pyn van slagoffers. Volgens Hermann het die ANC sy oom se dood in ’n verklaring betreur,

maar “verder is dit doodse stilte” van die president se kant. Hermann het gesê as die regering nie werklik erns maak met die wrede moorde, marteling en aanvalle nie,“ dan skryf ek ’n boek waarin ek erkenning gee aan vermoorde boere, hoewebewoners en dié wat aangeval is. “In Treurgrond word drieduisend voorvalle beskryf. Dis soos om ’n spieël op te tel en te sê: kyk, dis wat gebeur het.” Hermann se boek word vrygestel kort nadat 15 nuwe wit kruise vandeesmaand by die Witkruismonument net buite Polokwane geplant is. Die eerste kruise is in 2004 ter nagedagtenis aan slagoffers van plaasmoorde geplant en sedertdien word daar elke jaar nuwe kruise bygevoeg, het LiN Nuus berig. Kruise is onder meer vir Hermann sowel as die Potgieter-gesin van die Vrystaat geplant, wie se moorde op hulle plaas in die Lindley-distrik die land stomgeskok het. Die egpaar se tweejarige dogtertjie, Willemien, was een van die slagoffers. Die beskuldigdes staan tans tereg weens die driedubbele moord. Herstelwerk is luidens die berig ook aan die monument gedoen. Die sowat 2 000 wit kruise is

nou selfs meer sigbaar vir motoriste wat op die N1 verby die Ysterberge ry. Messages of congratulations pour in for Leopards Veiling goed ondersteun Black Leopards will be campaigning in the Absa Premiership Division when the activities for the new season start in two months' time. Congratulatory messages from all walks of life were still pouring in at the time of going to press. Premier Cassel Mathale was among the first batch of people to congratulate Lidoda Duvha on a job well done. “Lidoda Duvha has really done us proud. We congratulate Black Leopards on regaining their Premiership status,” said an ecstatic Mathale. The chairperson of the Premier Soccer League, Dr Irvin Khoza, said that the return of Black Leopards into the Absa Premiership was a positive move for the development of soccer in the province,

considering the fact that the people of Limpopo have always been passionate about the game. The president of the SAFA Vhembe Regional Association, Mr George Kubayi, pledged his association’s unwavering support to Lidoda Duvha, saying their promotion to the PSL was a blessing to all the soccer-loving people in the region. The chairperson of the Vuwani Taxi Association, Mr Mavhungu Madzhie, could not hide his happiness. He stated that his association had long been waiting for the promotion of Lidoda Duvha to the elite league. According to him, the return of Leopards to the Premiership Division will boost their industry a great deal. “It is a well-known fact that when Black Leopards play at home, our income as

taxi owners increases dramatically,” said Madzhie. Businesspeople from Thohoyandou, including hawkers, who were randomly interviewed by Zoutpansberger, also expressed their positive hopes. They indicated that they could not wait for Lidoda Duvha to play their first home match. Black Leopards were relegated to the National First Division way back in 2007. Unfortunately for the team’s local supporters, it will take about six months for them to watch Leopards play in Vhembe as both the Thohoyandou and Tshifulanani Stadium do not meet the Premier Soccer League's standards. The team will play their home matches at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Zim authorities say they will make no special efforts

Zimbabwe’s home affairs department says it cannot make any special efforts to help Zimbabweans facing deportation from South Africa, since they spurned opportunities they were granted to regularise their stay in the country. The registrar-general, Mr Tobaiwa Mudede, said his department had afforded the Zimbabweans in South Africa a chance to regularise their stay, but some now wanting special help did not take up the offer. “There is nothing we can do about those who are facing deportation, because we gave them a chance to apply for passports, but they decided not to. Our team was in South Africa for a very long time and my understanding is that those who regularised their stay are not going to be affected,” Mudede said. Mudede said about 51 000 passports had been processed so far. The Zimbabwean Department of Home Affairs sent a team to South Africa to document Zimbabwean resident in the country. The team completed its work on January 31 this year and a total of 58 189 passport applications had been submitted then. The process had continued up to April 30. “Approximately 78 189 passport applications have since been received by the department and to date 51

014 passports have been processed,” Mudede said. In April last year, South Africa announced a moratorium on the deportation of Zimbabweans and granted them a special dispensation for one year, so that they could get documents from Zimbabwean officials based in South Africa. The dispensation was to allow them to normalize their stay in South Africa. The documentation process was then launched for Zimbabweans to get relevant permits to stay in the country legally from 2011. The process, which was initially supposed to end on December 31, was extended to 31 July because Zimbabwe was slow in processing passports for its citizens who did not have passports. South African home affairs spokesperson Mr Ronnie Mamoepa said the deportations would be carried out after the July 31 deadline, adding that they were on course to beat the deadline to provide permits to all eligible illegal Zimbabwean immigrants who applied to regularise their stay. "The process of providing permits is still underway and we are hopeful we will beat the deadline. We will take action once the process is complete, and that's when we will announce how the deportations will be conducted," Mamoepa said.
