The Story of the A New Festival For Our Valley S
hauna Crandall, Administrative Director of the Senior’s Banquet Center is trying to interest more people in holding events with their facility. Coincidently last May, Solameé Heneage learned that the Wellness Festival in Jackson Hole would not be taking place this fall apparently because they wanted to reorganize and refresh their vision. During a random visit with Shauna, Solameé was asked to put together a Wellness Festival or something like it, to display the Banquet Center’s facility and ability to hold events there. Shauna believed it could open people’s minds to the many possibilities for events in their Banquet Center, especially with

All Festival registration fees/booth rentals as well as ticket sales for the Friday Banquet Dinner & Keynote Address are going to them. The City of Driggs has graciously supported the Senior’s need to increase their revenue and offered the use of other rooms and areas of the building owned by the City, for this Festival. This concept may be a template for a future event in the Driggs City Building and Banquet Center in another year or so, if the community supports it. This is the first of its kind in our Valley. Friday September 16th at 6 p.m. is the opening of the Festival. A chef prepared
cooperation from the City of Driggs. Solameé & Shauna agreed on the concept of bringing together people and products that bring healing to mind, body and spirit. Perhaps a Health Fair/Healing Arts Festival was over-do for our area. A planning committee was formed in early June. Three additional women from our area agreed to meet regularly and execute Shauna’s request for a Festival. They have been very involved in each stage of the planning with Solameé acting as the director for the festival. As the business owner of ENERGY HEALS in Driggs, Solameé is herself an energy healer/practitioner and coincidently has a background in holding New
Age Fairs in the late 1980’s. She is also a certified Master Instructor in Integrated Energy Therapy and teaches/certifies students in Energy Healing. One of her first students that completed the training to the advanced level in 2009 is listed there as well. This was originally designed to draw together other energy worker people that share in the excitement surrounding the new frontiers in energy medicine and the art and science of physical, mental and emotional transformation.
Solameé paid for and created a website for the Festival event registering it through her Energy Healers of Teton Valley name. This was after learning that the Seniors West of the Tetons did not have a website to provide the launch pad for a Festival event they would host. Solameé is receiving no income for her work on the festival. She simply felt passionate about bringing peoples’ awareness to the Senior’s Banquet Center as a viable location for events in general. Saturday September 17th is the Festival Hall and is open to the public. It could include as many as 34 booths offering professional healthcare consultations. Energy Work such as Integrated Energy Therapy, Matrix Energetics, and Reflexology will also be offered at various booths. There will be health related products, inspiring artwork, books and many other possibilities for becoming healthier. Most of Driggs City Building will be part of the festival. The Teton volleyball team got its first win last week at the North Fremont trimeet against Clark County. Teton defeated Clark in three games and took North to five games, but lost. This was the first win in at least two seasons for the Redskins, said coach Brian Schultz. “It was the first win in a long time,” he said. “It felt good and I feel like that win helped us play better against North Fremont.” Against Clark County Brooke Rammell had nine kills, Mikiah Dansie had eight, Emily Thompson four and Keli Jeppson had 26 assists. Rammell led in kills in the North Fremont game as well with eight, Payton Larsen had seven kills, Thompson three and Dansie two. Jeppson had 21 assists. Thomson had 14 digs while Dansie had nine. Mikiah Eck and Larsen each had eight digs. Cheyenne Banta had six blocks while Rammell had four. Teton lost to North earlier in the season in a three-game sweep. This time they took them to five. Teton won the first game, lost the next two, took the fourth game but then struggled in game five. Teton was down 12-4 and Schultz said it is really difficult to come back when the fifth game is played to 15 points.
On Saturday, Teton played in the West Jefferson tournament. Teton went into the consolation bracket after pool play. The beat North Gem then went on to play West Jefferson in the consolation championship. “I couldn’t be more happy with how we played,” said Schultz. “I feel like we were in the toughest of the two pools.” In pool play Teton lost to Challis, split with Ririe and then split with South Fremont JV. Schultz said they probably should have taken second place in pool play, but they didn’t. Schultz said it was a long day. They would have liked to bring home a plaque, but couldn’t beat West Jefferson. “I think we were just physically and mentally tired,” said Schultz. Cross country performs well at Tiger-Griz Rachael Horne TVN Staff
Caleb Moosman and Cameron Bischoff were in the top 15 at the Tiger –Griz Invitational, one of the season’s biggest cross country meets. There were 31 teams at the meet. Moosman finished 11th overall with a 17:32 while Bischoff was 15th, running a 17:45. Colt Kunz ran an 18:13 to place 28th. Brian Bagley was 37th with an 18:35; Thomas Knight had a breakout day and ran a 19:05 for 52nd place. Nick Wells ran a 19:06 to place 53rd and Derek Rippling had a PR with a time of 19:08 for 54th place. Gabriel Wilson ran a 19:23 for 66th place, Cameron Moore ran a 19:34 for 71st, Jacob Schultz was
84th at 20:08, Elio Radovitch ran a 20:45 for 90th and Jose Figueroa ran a 21:30 for 87th place. On the women’s side Cassidy Howarth was the first Teton runner to finish. She placed 22nd overall with a 22:17. Isabella Wilson ran a 23:07 and finished 38th. Tait Hanson ran a 23:19 for 31st. Jordan Hill was 43rd with a 24:34. Tian Haar ran a 25:35 for 53rd and Randi Reiley ran a 29:27 for 75th place. Both teams are expecting big things this season. The men have their eye on repeating as the 3A state champions. Coach Neil Gleichman said they have a lot of experience a lot of new kids moving up. Senior women Kelly Hannon,
Randi Reily and Jordan Hill said they are feeling strong this year. Hannon said they are working on staying together more as a team and running as a pack. They said they are also working on communication and positive encouragement. The women also have the goal of winning state this year. They finished fourth last year. Senior men Jacob Schultz, Eric Bagley, Cameron Bischoff and Cameron Moore said they are looking strong this year. Bischoff said they are really pushing each other. Men’s soccer wins three, falls to Snake again Rachael Horne TVN Staff
The Teton men’s soccer team went 3-1 on the week and has one more game before conference play begins next week. The Redskins defeated Aberdeen 5-1, beat Skyline JV 1-0 and Idaho Falls JV 7-2. They fell to Snake River 4-1. Snake River has handed Teton its only two losses of the season. This time, coach Dan Romano said his team played better against them, but for some reason didn’t show up. “We had a lot of mental mistakes,” said Romano. “We had some guys forgetting their jobs and what they were supposed to do out there. I know our guys can play better and they know they can play better.” Juan Diaz scored on a through ball from Cristian Ortiz. Teton had four shots hit the crossbar in that
game. Against Idaho Falls, Treven Perry had five goals; Ortiz one and Gabe Hernandez had one. Ortiz, normally in the net, was up front for the last 10 minutes of the half in that game. Carlos Ordonez played keeper. Romano said they are mixing things up a little bit. He said having Ortiz’s height up front doesn’t hurt and he can be an offensive threat. Inch for inch, Romano said Ordonez is one of the best keepers in the district. On Thursday, Teton hosted Skyline JV. Skyline had the 2-1 lead after 60 minutes of play, but then left the field and loaded up on their bus. Teton got the 1-0 forfeit. Romano said the coach was upset about the officiating and was possibly upset because two of his players got red cards and they would be down a man for the last 20 minutes of the game. Romano said it was probably a little bit of an over
reaction and he didn’t feel that anyone was going to get hurt in the game. Last Wednesday Teton defeated Aberdeen for the second time this season. Perry had two goals in the win while Adan Trejo, Moises Montenegro and Mike Parri all added one. Prior to the Snake River game, Romano said his team was looking really solid. “We go through this every year,” he said. “We play one great game, then for some reason we get in our own heads. I hope we can start playing more consistently.” Teton travels to Idaho Falls to play Bonneville JV today. On Sept. 20 the team hosts North Fremont in the conference opener. Redskins have strong week, handed first loss Rachael Horne TVN Staff
The Teton women’s soccer team was handed its first loss this week, but won three games as well. The Redskins defeated Aberdeen 3-0 at home Wednesday, scoring all their goals in the first half. Amanda Otto, Ashlie Hopkins and Sandra Zamora all scored. On Thursday, Teton was handed their first loss. They fell 2-1 to Skyline JV and were out shot 33-7. Otto had Teton’s only goal. Coach Sandy Buckstaff said the loss was probably a good thing and it opened their eyes to his team’s strengths and weaknesses. Buckstaff said Skyline plays a very disciplined game, based on crisp passing and ball skills. It’s a style Teton can’t mimic. “What they did caused us to change what we are
doing a little bit,” he said. Teton tried out a new formation on Saturday and Tuesday. Buckstaff said on Tuesday in the game against Snake River it began to click. Teton defeated Snake River 2-0. Hopkins scored two goals, both on assists from Otto. Against Idaho Falls JV on Saturday, Hopkins converted a cross for a goal on an assist from Otto. Otto had the teams other two goals. One was a shot from 10 yards out while the other came in the second half with a shot from 15 yards out. Otto and Hopkins have been carrying the team scoring wise. Buckstaff said Hopkins is starting to blossom at the forward position. She is new to that spot but is the fastest player on the field, so Buckstaff said he wanted to utilize that. Buckstaff said they are starting to feel good and have made some progress this week, but they are also battling injuries. Both Zamora and Alin
Perez are out with sprained ankles. Keeper Ali Abey got 22 stitches in her eyebrow after colliding with a Skyline attacker last week. She has 10 stitches inside with a severed muscle and 12 stitches on the outside. She returned to action on Tuesday after the doctor cleared her to play and got the shut out. Buckstaff said she was upset after the injury last week, not because she was hurt, but knew she had to leave the game for the hospital. Freshman Olivia Hotchkiss went in for the remainder of the Skyline game as keeper and was in the net again on Saturday. Buckstaff said she had a good performance and got the shut out on Saturday. Teton has a game today against Bonneville JV. Teton has beaten them once this season already. The Redskins begin conference play on Tuesday when they host North Fremont.
