welcome to toile ‘tis the season to be crafty

2013 has been an incredibly blessed year for Damask Love. Back in January, I set goals for the blog and all have come to fruition. I’ve seen increased readership and had the opportunity to work on some incredible collaborations with other bloggers and brands. With less than two months left in the year, I’m excited to round out 2013 with a project that I’ve wanted to tackle for quite some time. Every year , holiday guides pop up around blogland, but I have yet to find one that speaks directly to my crafty, paper-loving, shopaholic, DIY-er soul! And with that in mind, Toile (pron: twahl) was born.

Toile is a labor of love. For weeks, the craftroom has been strewn with more craft supplies and projects than that scene where Buddy the Elf redecorates Gimbel’s for Santa’s arrival. Thanks to Toile, I’m now on a first name basis with the UPS delivery person and I’ve worn a track between my house and Michael’s Craft Store. All that to say...it’s been crazy up in here. As you flip through Toile, you’ll find tons of creative holiday inspiration including gift ideas, tutorials, recipes, printables and even a guest appearance by Mr. Damask Love himself...because, he just can’t miss out on a good time. Before you start flipping through, here are a few pointers:

HOW TO READ TOILE: • Get comfy and grab a cup of tea...or coffee...or egg nog...or vodka...or all four (no judgement here). Don’t try to tackle it all at once! There’s alot here, so come back and read when you have time. • Have a notepad and pen handy. And make sure it’s a cute handmade notebook. I would expect nothing less of you! There will be lots of items you’ll want to jot down onto your wishlist. • Get your mouse hand ready for some clicking. Toile is an interactive guide which means there are clickable links throughout. You’ll find “hidden” tutorials, pingbacks and reviews that you don’t want to miss. And, if you’re itching to spend some money, all the supply lists and gift suggestions are linked to their appropriate online retailer. • Feel free to forward! I love my husband...but let’s be honest, the man knows absolutely nothing about craft supplies! If you’re in the same boat, go ahead and send Toile to your husband, wife, friend, boss, baby daddy & Oprah. (I mean, she did give out cars...maybe she wants to hand out stamps and cardstock this time!)

ft i G The

Guide

Can you ever really have too many crafting supplies? Probably not! We crafty types have quite a knack for coming up with long wishlists of fun creative supplies, and when the holidays come around these lists grow exponentially! If you are a gift-giver looking for the perfect gift to bestow upon your crafty loved one, then there’s a good chance you’ll find it here. If you are a creative person hoping to add a few more goodies to your wishlist. Look no futher. I’ve got you covered!

I love the look of large sentiments that fall off the edge of a card. It’s a simple detail that adds so much sophistication to your handmade designs. Sadly, I was unable to find sentiment stamps that fit this need, so I decided to create one of my own. I’m excited to introduce “Over-the-Edge:Joy” a holiday-themed stamp set that can be used on it’s own or combined with the stamps that you already have in your stash. “Over the Edge: Joy” is an extremely limited stamp set that will only be available until sold out.

The oversized “Joy sentiment is designed in a font reminiscent of handwritten script. This font translates beautifully onto all types of projects including large tags, chalkboard themed cards and simple holiday stationery. Here, I stamped the sentiment onto the largest tag in the Traditional Stax Tag set from www.mftstamps. The two work perfectly together.v

You can stamp this large off the edge sentiment without many other embellishments and the results are beautiful!

Over the Edge: Joy works wonderully with your other stamp sets to create nonholiday cards. Here, I paired the large sentiment with small floral images and an accompanying sentiment that makes a perfect wedding day card.

I’ve got a group of handmade projects that are totally doable and totally giftable for just about every recipient you can think of. You know that saying about the cobbler’s children...how that don’t have any shoes. Well, I think something similar could be said about the cardmakers friends. They don’t receive any cards! You’d think that all my friends and family would be swimming in handmade cards, but the truth is that I am terrible about sending out the projects I make. Well, this Christmas I’m gonna make ...and send cards if it’s the last thing I do (which it may very well be). As long as I’m going to tackle Christmas cards, they should probably be simple and easy to mass produce. Let’s get started...

Most people enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the spa or a fun trip to the movies. Me? My idea of heaven is having a hour or so of uninterripted shopping at the Container Store. Yeah. Weird. I just love packaging and all the possibilities for dressing up gifts with some handmade flair. Even if you never create handmade packaging, the holidays are the perfect excuse to break that habit. In this section, you’ll find ideas ranging from super simple to a little more advanced. Hopefully, you’ll be inspired to create something pretty for under the tree.
