How to save money if you travel solo Share on Pinterest Share on Twitter Solo travel has numerous advantages such as loose planning, more self-confidence, spontaneous decision and time to rethink and reconsider your life. However, while travelling alone can be great for your heart and mind, it is at the same time an expensive habit because you have to pay the full tab for everything. If you travel with a companion, you can split the cost of the hotel room, the taxi or the restaurant. Luckily, there are ways to avoid paying a fortune for your solo trip.

Accommodation In the whole world and of course in Greece , there are many hotels

that offer single rooms at affordable prices. Certainly, it is much easier to find a double-room, but some independent hotels around the world provide the solo travellers with smaller rooms that are perfect for them. If you are comfortable to live in communal settings, you can choose to stay at a hostel. The prices are reasonable, and you may meet new people, who have the same way of thinking with you. Transportation If you travel with company, you can share the expense of the car rental, the fuels, the tolls and the parking fees. Furthermore, the expenditure of taking daily a taxi is undoubtedly high even in Greece. If you want in any case a car, the simplest advice is to rent the smallest available car class because it is just you and your bags, so you don't need much space. However, the best advice is to be more open-minded about that. In Greece and generally in Europe, buses and trains can get you almost everywhere. In Athens, the public transportation network is an excellent choice in the centre while there are also islands, like Koufonisi, or Symi, which are too tiny to need a car.

Food and drink For the solo traveller, eating alone in a restaurant can be something different, but after a while, you may feel awkward. Furthermore, the bill can't be shared, and doing that every day of your vacations can cost you a lot of money. The best solution is to shop for your own meals. You will learn many things about the local products, and you can bring your meal on a bench in front of a famous monument you want to admire while eating. With regard to the drinks, even if you don't want to stay at a hostel, you can spend an evening in their bars, drinking cheap cocktails and socialising. Be flexible

If you travel alone, you have the most flexible schedule possible. You don't have to plan your vacations according to the available dates of other people, and you can organise your trip in the off-season. Furthermore, no one will force you to visit a museum you are not interested in or eat in a luxury restaurant. If you are flexible, you can do things off the Beaten Path that are more affordable but at the same time more interesting.
