Loukoumades, a traditional Greek dessert Loukoumades are popular all around the Mediterranean, but in Greece, this delicacy is one of the most famous desserts, especially at holidays. They have roots in deep antiquity, although their present name is borrowed from Arabic or Turkish. The ancestor of the modern loukoumades is the historical Greek honey-cake enkris, which was mentioned from Callimachus and Archestratus as being prepared from a dough-ball fried in hot olive oil.
