100% San Diego is a customized, reality-based piece by the German theatre group Rimini Protokoll, in which San Diego County’s population is represented by 100 people. Each participant is chosen according to select statistical criteria that reflect the city’s demographics from census data. These 100 citizens create a living, breathing portrait of San Diego: a whole city on stage, part theatre, part reality, 100% San Diego.
Rimini Protokoll has exerted a powerful influence on the alternative theatre scene as leaders and creators of the theatre movement known as “Reality Trend” (Theater der Zeit). They have attracted international attention with their dramatic works, which take place in the colorful zone between reality and fiction. Since 2000, Rimini Protokoll has brought its “theatre of experts” to the stage and into city spaces. Their awards include the National German Theatre Award DER FAUST, the European Theatre Prize in Thessaloniki (category: New Realities) and the Silver Lion of the 41st Theatre Biennale of Venice. rimini-protokoll.de

EARN $1 IN JUST 1 MINUTE! We’re offering YOU $1 for just a minute of your life. Brian Lobel’s acclaimed installation Carpe Minuta Prima (“Seize the Minute”) playfully explores themes of economy, the value of our time and what it means to sign away your soul.
Christina Aushana is a transnationally-focused artist/scholar working at the intersection of theories of embodiment, somatic engagements, and performance as a strategy for living otherwise. Her performance ethos engages with the political and cultural entanglements of lives constituted by global South and trans-border politics. She has participated in a number of art praxis events and projects in San Diego, including the cross-border consortium “Political Equator 3” and UCSD’s “Knowledge-Exchange Corridors.” Christina is currently a PhD student at the University of California, San Diego in the Department of Communication, where she studies performance, border politics and alternative, emergent practices of un/knowing.
Sean Estelle is a recent graduate of UC San Diego with a B.A. in Theatre and a Visual Arts (Studio) minor. He has shown work in the University Art Gallery, the gallery@Calit2 and the Mandeville Annex Galleries at UCSD, and just finished training in Athens, Greece, with La Pocha Nostra for their International Summer School. UCSD Theatre credits: Acting: Spring Awakening (2012), reasons to be pretty (2010), Phantom Band (BNPF 2010), Wigs/Animal Animal (ONPS 2010), The Seagull (2010). Directing: Dawning Pupils (UNPF 2012), The Thugs (AD, 2011), Butterfly in China (UNPF 2011), Radical Acts of Desire - Poster of the Cosmos (2011), A Man, His Wife, and His Hat (AD, BNPF 2011) and Muzungu (AD, BNPF 2010). Brian Lobel creates performances about bodies and how they are watched, policed, poked, prodded and loved by others. The New York-born, London-based Lobel has shown work internationally in a range of contexts, from medical schools to galleries, cabarets to museums, marketplaces to forests, blending provocative humor with insightful reflection. Major works include BALL & Other Funny Stories About Cancer (in over 80 cities internationally), Purge, Hold My Hand and We’re Halfway There, Ruach, Carpe Minuta Prima and Cruising for Art, which have been presented in London, New York City, Bangkok, Tokyo, Paris, Brussels, Helsinki, Chicago, Austin, San Diego and beyond. Lobel has received commissions from the Wellcome Trust (for Fun with Cancer Patients), the Jerwood Charitable Foundation (for Carpe Minuta Prima), motiroti (for Purge) and from Arts Council England (for BALL & Other Funny Stories About Cancer). He is a Senior Lecturer in Performing Arts at University of Chichester, a Core Artist with Forest Fringe and an Associate Artist with Clod Ensemble’s Performing Medicine. Moving Arts’ The Car Plays: San Diego, conceived by Paul Stein, features a series of intimate tenminute plays, each taking place in a car. Audiences of two move from vehicle to vehicle to experience works by different playwrights. Participants are ushered to their car seats, the car doors close, and the drama unfolds just inches away. Ten minutes later, the doors open, a seat in a new car awaits, and a fresh play begins.

Wendy Elizabeth Abraham (Associate Producer ) had been in Los Angeles for five years. She wanted to join a theater company that would put interesting, thought-provoking original works on their feet. Moving Arts was just that place. With the company she has had the pleasure to work on The Car Plays and many of the company’s One-Act Festivals. Most recently she performed in Fathers at a Game at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. She is very excited to be joining the team as Associate Producer.
Christopher Ashley (Director – She Beside Me, Sitting) has served as Artistic Director at La Jolla
Playhouse since October, 2007. During his tenure, he has helmed the West Coast premiere of His Girl Friday, David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross, the world premiere of Arthur Kopit and Anton Dudley’s A Dram of Drummhicit, Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the world premiere of Claudia Shear’s Restoration, and the acclaimed musicals Xanadu and Memphis, which won four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical. Mr. Ashley spearheaded the Playhouse’s acclaimed Without Walls series of sitespecific work, as well as the DNA New Work Series. He also established the Resident Theatre program, which encourages the artistic development of up-and-coming theatre companies and provide a temporary home each year to one of the many vibrant local theatre troupes without a permanent venue. In addition, he oversaw the world premieres of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Hands on a Hardbody, Milk Like Sugar, Little Miss Sunshine, Limelight: The Story of Charlie Chaplin, Surf Report, Bonnie & Clyde, Doug Wright’s adaptation of Creditors, the Page To Stage workshop of Charlayne Woodard’s The Night Watcher, and the West Coast premiere of 33 Variations. Prior to joining the Playhouse, Mr. Ashley directed the Broadway productions of Xanadu (Drama Desk nomination), All Shook Up and The Rocky Horror Show (Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations), as well as the Kennedy Center Sondheim Celebration productions of Sweeney Todd and Merrily We Roll Along. Other New York credits include: Blown Sideways Through Life, Jeffrey (Lucille Lortel and Obie Awards), The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, Valhalla, Regrets Only, Wonder of the World, Communicating Doors, Bunny Bunny, The Night Hank Williams Died, Fires in the Mirror (Lucille Lortel Award), among others. He also directed the feature film Jeffrey and the American Playhouse production of Blown Sideways Through Life for PBS. Mr. Ashley is the recipient of the Princess Grace Award, the Drama League Director Fellowship and an NEA/TCG Director Fellowship.
Daria Balling (Brenda – Flooding) is excited to be performing in The Car Plays: San Diego in lovely La Jolla. She was last seen acting in a car in Ski Mask and Bohemian Like You at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. While a member of Moving Arts, Daria has performed in world premieres of such plays as New Shoes, Hip Skidoo, Alien Hand Syndrome and Johnny and Linda. She has acted in various theaters in Los Angeles and New York, and had the pleasure of performing in Sweden at the Bergman festival in The Day Ends Early. Rhianna Basore (She – She Beside Me, Sitting) is thrilled to be returning to work with La Jolla
Playhouse/Moving Arts on their co-production of the The Car Plays: San Diego. Rhianna’s other local credits include Romeo and Juliet, Uneasy Chair (North Coast Rep); Grace, Jack Goes Boating, Ass (ion theatre); One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Macbeth, Midsummer Night’s Dream (New Village Arts); No Exit (Diversionary Theatre); Chrysalis (Sledgehammer); Playwright’s Project, San Diego Fringe Festival. She has performed with Shakespeare Theatre Company, Florida Studio Theatre, Shakespeare in Santa Fe, Cherry Lane Theatre, NY Fringe Festival and also in Paris (Theatre Les Dechargeurs) and Toronto (Peacock Productions).
Lisa Berger (Director – We Wait) is a director and Meisner technique acting teacher.
Her directing credits include The Car Plays: San Diego – We Wait, The Whale reading (La Jolla Playhouse); A Behanding in Spokane (Cygnet); Killer Joe (Compass Theatre); Buried Child (New Village Arts) and The Long Christmas Ride Home (Diversionary Theatre). Additional directing credits include Our Town, Simpatico, Miss Julie, Anatomy of Gray and several children’s musical for the Metropolitan Opera Guild in NYC. She currently teaches at University of San Diego, Mira Costa College and is Co-Artistic Director of MeisnerChekhov Integrated Training Studio. (continued...)

Jami Brandli (Playwright – Flooding) Ms. Brandli’s plays include Technicolor Life, BLISS (or Emily

Her work has been produced and developed at HotCity Theatre, WordBRIDGE, Ashland New Plays Festival, The Lark, New York Theatre Workshop, Great Plains Theatre Conference, Milwaukee Rep, Rogue Machine, among other venues. She received the John Gassner Memorial Playwriting Award and Holland New Voices Award and was a finalist for the Playwrights’ Center Core Writer Fellowship. Matt Bretz (Director – The Audience) is currently the Executive Creative Director of The Ant
Farm. He has been directing only shorts the past few years: Gi-normous by Timothy Mason in an evening of plays to open Circle X Theatre’s residency at the Atwater Village Theatre, the workshop of Paul Mullin’s Ballard House Duet and the previous productions of The Audience. Matt was the founding Artistic Director of Circle X where he most recently directed the world premiere of Marley’s Ghost by Jeff Goode as a site-specific extravaganza roving across Hollywood Forever Cemetery. He thanks his wife Carolyn and daughter Violet for making this possible.
Julie Briggs (Charlie – Flooding ) is a co-founder and former Artistic Director of Moving Arts in Los
Angeles, where favorite directing credits include The Meadows and Busted Jesus Comix. She directed the world premiere production of Greyfriars Bobby, a “walking” play for children that traveled through the historic streets of Edinburgh and garnered 4-star reviews from Fringe Festival critics. She has enjoyed acting in dozens of productions on stage (and in cars) with Moving Arts, Burglars of Hamm and others, and has been garroted or stabbed in numerous low-budget horror flicks.
William Christian (Dad – Phenom) has over thirty years as a professional actor of stage, television and film. Emmy Award nominee, NAACP Image Award nominee, NAACP Theater Award recipient; Ovation Award nominee; LA Theater Award recipient. He made his Los Angeles Philharmonic debut narrating The Last Seven Words of Christ by Joseph Haydn in 2009. This summer he made his Aspen Music Festival debut narrating Beethoven’s Egmont. He is a company member of Pacific Stages and The Actors Studio. He is married to Gail Samuel and they have two boys: Samuel and Orlando. Bryan Davidson (Playwright – What Happened to Us) is a Los Angeles-based playwright and
dramaturg. As a writer, his play War Music won four Ovation Awards and was produced at the Geffen Playhouse. His work has been produced by Cornerstone Theater Company, Playwrights’ Arena, Echo Theater Company and at Disney Concert Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. As a dramaturg, Bryan has worked with Native Voices at the Autry and Son of Semele Theatre Ensemble. Bryan is a member of Dog Ear Playwrights, and is currently a Creative Executive at Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Kyle Donnelly (Director – Doe) is a director who has worked all over the country in such theatres as the Roundabout, Arena Stage, Seattle Rep, Huntington, Goodman, Steppenwolf, Old Globe, South Coast Rep and A.C.T., among others. She has won the Jefferson Award and Helen Hayes Award for Best Production. She helped found a theatre in Chicago (Lifeline), ran her own professional acting studio (Actor’s Center), associate artistic directed another (Arena Stage), and now is Head of the Professional Actor Training Program in the Department of Theatre and Dance at UC San Diego, and is holder of the Arthur and Molli Wagner Endowed Chair in Acting.

Keili Fernando (Stage Manager) Keili is a second-year undergraduate student at UC San Diego.
She is majoring in Communication and minoring in Theatre with emphasis in acting and stage management. UCSD credits: New Directions 2013, Casagemas (WNPF ’13) and Titus Andronicus. Acting credits include: My Fair Lady, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Fast Train to the Poorhouse. Keili is also a freelance photographer and a singer-songwriter. Sidney Franklin (Dude – Hipsters) is happy to be returning to La Jolla Playhouse. Sidney’s recent credits include several plays and the touring company with the Playwrights Project and Alan in Torch Song Trilogy at Diversionary Theatre. Sidney’s screen credits include a lead role on a Lifetime movie and several co-star roles on MTV, FX, CBS and ABC. Beth Gallagher (Chick – Hipsters) Site-specific theatre has always held a special place in Beth’s heart,
and she is thrilled to be a part of Moving Arts’ The Car Plays: San Diego at La Jolla Playhouse. Selected credits include: Boeing Boeing at OB Playhouse; Barefoot in the Park at Patio Playhouse; The Psychic at Different Stages; Come Back, Little Sheba at Community Actor’s Theatre and Anita Bryant Died for Your Sins at Diversionary. Beth is originally from Philadelphia, but has lived in San Diego for the past eight years. She has a Masters Degree in Theatre Arts and a teaching credential from San Diego State University.

Samantha Ginn (Gypsy – We Wait) is thrilled to be back with Moving Arts after performing in The
Car Plays: San Diego at La Jolla Playhouse and Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Samantha graduated from Sonoma State University with her Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts. Some credits include One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Much Ado About Nothing (New Village Arts); Hickorydickory (Critics Circle Award); Coming Attractions (Moxie Theatre) and The Warriors’ Duet (Circle Circle dot dot). Samantha also teaches Improv through “Kids Act” and is a proud company member of Circle Circle dot dot.
Kimberly Glann (Director – PCH) Recent producing credits include The Car Plays (Segerstrom
Center for the Arts’ Off-Center Festival 2012, 2013); The Car Plays: San Diego (La Jolla Playhouse 2012); Stranger Things, The Car Plays: L.A. Stories (Radar L.A. 2011) and Song of Extinction (LA Weekly Award, Best Production 2008). Kim is currently appearing with The Ghost Road Company in the English translation of Pantofelnik’s Suitcase at the Korczak Festival in Warsaw, Poland. She is on staff at the L.A. County Arts Commission. But her most important job is being the proud mama of a crazy/funny/awesome seven-year-old.
Joshlin Grayson (Travis – Phenom) Originating from Cheverly, Maryland, Joshlin Grayson moved to
San Francisco at the age of five. He spent eleven years in San Francisco where he excelled in the performing arts, doing numerous stage plays and musical performances. In 2008, he and his mother relocated to Los Angeles, but Joshlin never considered acting professionally. However, in 2012, his professor, a drama teacher at Pasadena City College, saw his potential and encouraged him to explore the field further. Since then, he has re-found his love for acting, and has enjoyed the journey ever since. (continued...)

Kirsten Greenidge (Playwright – Immaculate) is a 2013 PEN/Laura Pels Award recipient and
recent Obie Award winner. Her play Milk Like Sugar had its world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse in 2011. Her work has been produced at Lincoln Center (LTC3), The Huntington, Playwrights Horizons and Yale Rep. She is currently working on commissions from Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The Goodman, La Jolla Playhouse, Denver Center and Yale. Her plays include: The Luck of the Irish, Milk Like Sugar, Bossa Nova and Splendor, which premiered this fall at Company One in Boston. Kirsten earned her M.F.A. from the University of Iowa and is a former resident at New Dramatists. She teaches playwriting at Boston University’s School of Theater.

Katherine is the Head Community Teaching Artist for The Old Globe’s Community Voices project for whom she has helped underserved adults in San Diego develop Playwriting skills. Aditi Brennan Kapil (Playwright – Doe) is a playwright, actress, and director, of Bulgarian and

Finegan Kruckemeyer (Playwright – She Beside Me, Sitting) has had 61 commissioned plays
performed on five continents and was an inaugural recipient of the $160,000 Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship. In 2013, 20 works were presented worldwide. His plays have been in 50 Australian/ international festivals, five IPAY showcases, five UK tours and at the Sydney Opera House (five), New Victory Theater (three), Dublin’s Abbey Theatre, Shanghai’s Malan Flower Theatre and DC’s Kennedy Center. Finegan’s works have received at least one award each year since 2004. He was Keynote Speaker at the 2013 One Theatre World North American Conference, with previous presentations in nine countries, and essays published.
Dana Lau (Soo Min – Drop-Off Day) As a newcomer to San Diego, Dana is excited to be a part of the The Car Plays project. After attending The Theatre School at DePaul and the Academy of Art University, Dana rounded out her training at the Meisner School of Acting. She is currently represented in San Francisco and LA where she continues to work in theatre and film. Dana just completed her first endeavor as a playwright and is submitting to writing contests. EM Lewis (Playwright – Drop-Off Day) received the Primus Prize for her play Heads and the Steinberg
Award for Song of Extinction. She was a Hodder Fellow at Princeton University, has been published by Samuel French, and has just been accepted into American Lyric Theater’s 2013-2014 Composer Librettist Development Program. Jeff Liu (Director – Anniversary Party) recently adapted and directed the Pulitzer Prize-nominated
play Yellow Face by Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang for the YOMYOMF Network on YouTube. A feature he co-wrote, Charlotte Sometimes, was nominated for two Independent Spirit Awards. His theatrical productions include the world premieres of Texas and Solve For X by Judy Soo Hoo, Murderobilia and Terminus Americana (Ovation Award nominee for Best World Premiere) by Matt Pelfrey, The Golden Hour and Grace Kim and the Spiders From Mars by Philip W. Lily Lo (Carhop) is currently an undergraduate student of UC San Diego, studying International
Studies and Psychology. Lily has been involved in many UCSD Graduate Theatre productions, such as Spring Awakening in 2011 and Hookman, a Baldwin New Play Festival Original, in 2012. This will be Lily’s second year carhopping for The Car Plays: San Diego.
Steve Lozier (Playwright – We Wait) is a dog lover. When he wrote We Wait, he was the proud
papa of three dogs: Cooper Boy, Chopper and Kansas. Shortly after last’s year’s run of We Wait as part of The Car Plays: San Diego at the La Jolla Playhouse, Cooper Boy passed away very unexpectedly. It was a heartbreaking experience. Lozier now dedicates this new production to Cooper Boy and the various actors and directors who have brought the characters to life these past few years.

Matt McGrath (Director – La Vida Americana) most recently directed The Further Adventures
of Hedda Gabler at the Diversionary Theater and appeared in La Jolla Playhouse’s production of His Girl Friday. Prior to that, Matt directed TRU starring Daryl Hammond, as well as My Brilliant Divorce starring Polly Draper both for the Bay Street Theater. Matt was awarded A Bieneke Fellowship for the Yale School of Drama in 2007. Matt was also nominated for a Hellman Award in Sydney, Australia for his performance in Robert Wilson’s The Black Rider by Tom Waits and William S. Burroughs.
Ken Narasaki (Harold – Anniversary Party) is an actor/writer and working stiff. His plays include
the recent adaptation of No No Boy, award-winning plays Innocent When You Dream and The Mikado Project (co-written with Doris Baizley) and Ghosts And Baggage. As an actor, he starred in Zwei Profis for German television, and appeared in Lane Nishikawa’s Only The Brave. He has also appeared in over 60 plays, including Ching Chong Chinaman, Po Boy Tango, Winter People and Theory Of Everything, in Los Angeles, Singapore, New York, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Sacramento and elsewhere. He’s been married for over 26 years to actress Sharon Omi with whom he has a beautiful daughter, Rosie.
Trey Nichols (Playwright – PCH) is an actor, playwright and solo performer, and has worked with many theatres in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago. He has been a member of Moving Arts since 1995. His play Fathers at a Game, which was a finalist in Moving Arts’ Premiere OneAct Competition, recently received a “Best of Fringe” award in the 2013 Hollywood Fringe Festival. His solo show A Lesson in Proper Bow-Fluffing Technique was nominated for an LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award for Best Solo Performance. He is a member of SAG and AFTRA. Nichols Theatre Internship Program at OnStage Playhouse which is going into its 7th year serving San Diego youth. In 2010 she directed and developed an original theatre piece, ONE, with the L.E.T. Director of Native Voices at the Autry the nation’s leading Equity theater company dedicated to the development and production of new plays by Native Americans since 1994. He has directed and produced over 75 plays across the US, Canada and Australia, and is a tenured professor at San Diego State University, where he served as Head of Acting in the School of Theatre, Television and Film from 1997-2007 and Director of the School from 2007–2012, when he was named Director of Community Engagement and Innovative Programs for the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts.
Dave Rivas (Cesar – La Vida Americana) joins the cast of The Car Plays after just closing Detained in the Desert at La Jolla Playhouse. Dave’s theater company, Teatro Máscara Mágica (TMM), produced the show as their first production as part of their residency program here at the Playhouse. TMM also produces an annual Christmas show at The San Diego REP called La Pastorela in which Dave is very well known as Cholo-Satan. Dave is also a member of Amigos del REP, a volunteer council that promotes Hispanic/Latino writers, plays and artists of every kind at The SD REP. Dave is also a voice over artist. He has lent his voice(s) to hundreds of TV/radio commercials and video games for 15 years. He is the owner & operator of DaveyBoy Productions, a voice-over actors’ workshop, sound design and recording studio. William Salyers (Adam – The Audience) Perhaps best known for his voice-over work as Rigby in
Cartoon Network’s Emmy award-winning Regular Show, Reverend Putty in Adult Swim’s Moral Orel, and popular video games such as Skyrim and Mass Effect 3, Bill has also appeared in films and liveaction television. His theatrical credits include the role of Paul, et al, in the world premiere of Body of An American, by Dan O’Brien for Portland Center Stage; several roles in the world premiere of Jim Leonard’s Battle Hymn; and the title role for the world premiere of Paul Mullin’s Louis Slotin Sonata, (continued...) both for Circle X Theatre.

Kiff Scholl (Playwright – The Audience) is a writer, award-winning director and actor who directed
La Bête (Sacred Fools); Kill Me, Deadly (NOTE); Our House (Lounge) and countless other shows in L.A. The Los Angeles Times said “Director Kiff Scholl has few peers at keeping us intrigued.” His productions won seven Backstage awards, five LA Weekly awards and one Ovation award. Scholl was called one of L.A.’s “emerging and accomplished stage directors” by the LA Weekly. Scholl won awards for his feature Scream of the Bikini, which sold in Japan, his film 11/11/11 is available on Netflix, and he is currently in post on his latest film, Surprise.
Dana Schwartz (Director – Disneyland) has been a member of Moving Arts for many years
as a producer, writer, director and actress. She wrote PTA for The Car Plays and directed many incarnations (get it?) of several others. Her play, Condolences, was produced as part of the She Writes festival, and her newest play, Space, is currently being workshopped. She has worked as an actress in many productions in L.A. and across the country. Next, she would like to learn to joust.
Michael Schwartz (Director – Hipsters) Favorite directing credits include Waiting for Godot at Portland Stage Company and Nicky Silver’s Pterodactyls. Other recent credits include The Bourgeois Gentleman, Batboy and Urinetown. He holds a certificate in commedia dell’arte from the Dell ‘Arte Players in Blue Lake and an M.F.A. in directing from UC San Diego where he remains a visiting instructor. He most recently directed a world premiere translation of UBU, the Producer’s Pick award winner, for San Diego Fringe Festival with his theater company, The Max Fischer Players.
Michael Shutt (Kurt – PCH) is thrilled to be back in La Jolla as part of The Car Plays: San Diego.
He has been involved with The Car Plays from the beginning (this is his 8th time) and has been lucky enough to be a part of every incarnation of this project. As an actor, he has performed over 400 times in a car having been seen in Pina Coladas, Disneyland, PCH, Todd’s Hollywood Tours and Before We Go Home. Over the years, he has directed seven different Car Plays, served as producer three times and wrote One For The Road, which was produced as part of this event last year. Kathleen Sorenson (Stage Manager) Kathleen was born and raised in San Diego. She went to Hollywood for college where she majored in musical theatre at American Musical Dramatic Academy. Kathleen has performed in many musicals and worked alongside many professionals. It wasn’t until Kathleen moved back to her hometown in 2007 where she began teaching Musical Theatre to kids ages 5-18 that she fell in love with directing, choreographing and stage managing. Kathleen is creative, positive, friendly and outgoing with a passion to serve all ages.

Gareth Yuen (Nathan – Anniversary Party) hails from Australia and has worked extensively on
stage, television and film. Early stage credits include the title role in Sabat Jesus and as actor and assistant director with the Chinese Theatre Group. Numerous early TV credits include playing Hop Sing in Ponderosa (PAX TV’s prequel to Bonanza) and classic Aussie shows Kath & Kim, Neighbours, et al. He then studied at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). Since graduating, he’s been seen worldwide in a variety of roles, including Dax (Blue Ranger) in the inimitable U.S. children’s TV series Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive and as Lai in acclaimed feature film The Jammed. Most recently for theatre, Gareth played the objet du désir in Happy Ending for MTC.
Moving Arts, called “the tiny Silver Lake theatre with an enviable reputation,” is dedicated to the production of original works. Founded by Lee Wochner and Julie Briggs in 1992, Moving Arts has produced many world, national, west coast and Los Angeles premieres. Moving Arts began as a 22-seat venue in the Silver Lake area and quickly grew to become a resident artist company that includes actors, directors, producers, designers and playwrights. Jennifer Barclay (Playwright) is an actor-turned-playwright, formerly based in California and recently relocated to DC. Her play The Carpool was commissioned by La Jolla Playhouse and produced at the Playhouse in 2012 as part of The Car Plays: San Diego. Her plays have also been produced and developed nationally and internationally by Steppenwolf, The Old Globe, International Theatre of Vienna, Moving Arts, Teatro Vista, RedCat, Edinburgh Fringe, Kennedy Center, Samuel French, Piven, Remy Bumppo, Red Tape, American Theatre Company, Moxie, Stage Left, The Source and Collaboraction, among others. As an actor, Jennifer has performed in Austria, Scotland, Chicago, California and New York, and has toured her one-woman show, Clearing Hedges, nationally and internationally. Kamchàtka revolves around eight characters who just arrived in a city. They move together, each carrying a suitcase and a souvenir. Be they travellers or immigrants, they are open to the world around them, showing us how to view everything as if it were the first time we are seeing it, teaching us to look at ourselves through their eyes. Kamchàtka is an improvisational show which deals with the essence of theatre in public space, crossing the borders between theatre, game and life. Adrian Schvarzstein was born in Buenos Aires in 1967 and has lived in Italy, Israel and Spain. He currently resides in Barcelona. Adrian has devoted himself to theatre since 1989. He studied theatre in Israel, mime in France and Commedia Dell’Arte with Antonio Fava in Italy. His career has carried him from physical theatre, to the opera with Dario Fo, from Baroque music, to contemporary dance with Víctor of Pina Bausch, film, commercials and television. Adrian was part of the Belgian Circo Ronaldo, together with Fili and Brick a Barack. He is an accomplished Commedia Dell’Arte, street theatre and opera teacher. Aside from being a successful multidisciplinary artist, Adrian specializes in Street Theatre. As of today, his solo shows Greenman, The Bed and Dans are performed in festivals worldwide. Adrian is the director and an actor in Circus Klezmer with which he has achieved great public and critical acclaim. Kamchàtka is a Spanish theatre company who creates their own clear and sensitive language using improvisation, street theatre techniques and non-verbal communication in performances that include audience participation. Carissa Cash (Rebecca) is a UCSD Theatre and Dance department alumni. Claire Kaplan (Mrs. Soames) is an actor, educator and improvisor who has worked in LA, San Diego, the Bay Area, The Mojave Desert and London. She has worked most recently with South Coast Rep and Sierra Rep, as well as with Hungry River Theatre Co., of which she was a founding member, and Interrobang, an experimental comedy troupe (Interrobangltd.org). Claire is bowled over by the love and talent that make up THE TRIP, and thanks La Jolla Playhouse for the chance to return to this city and this play, both uncommonly beautiful.
Matthew MacNelly (Doc Gibbs) is a recent graduate of the UC San Diego M.F.A. program currently living in New York City. He is ecstatic to be working with THE TRIP again, following last winter’s Christmas romp ‘Twas the Night. You may have seen him wrangling sleazy real-estate agents in Christopher Ashley’s production of Glengarry Glen Ross at La Jolla Playhouse. Jack Mikesell (Mr. Webb) This is Mr. Mikesell’s second show working with Tom Dugdale. Jack recently made his professional acting debut in La Jolla Playhouse’s world premiere of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. Other credits include: Tonight We Improvise, June Moon, Small Prophecies, The Dybbuk, Santa Barbarians and The Little Dog Laughed. Jack received his M.F.A. at UC San Diego.
Thomas Miller (Simon Stimson) was recently a finalist for the M.F.A. Acting programs at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and UC San Diego. He is thrilled to work again with THE TRIP, having played The Neighbor in ‘Twas The Night. Thomas holds a B.A. in Political Science: International Relations and Theatre from UC San Diego, is the recipient of the Dr. Milton H. Platonov, or The Disinherited, is a new, live cinema adaptation of Chekhov’s first full-length play. Platonov chronicles an emotionally bankrupt society of anti-heroes who are, less heroically, also losing their loves, their homes and perhaps even their humanity as well. It is a journey with a sense of humor first and foremost that races into the dark hearts of ecstasy, loyalty, selflessness, money and pride. It’s a play about falling in and out of love and losing one’s way in the world. Staged as a site-specific, live cinema performance, Platonov mixes freely the experience of Shakespeare in the Park with the nostalgia of a drive-in movie. Simultaneously a play and a film, this physically daring and emotionally charged performance brings Scheib’s acclaimed ensemble to the west coast for the first time.

Tara Ahmadinejad (Assistant Director) is a Brooklyn-based director, originally from Philadelphia. She is the co-founding Artistic Director of the theater group Piehole with whom she has directed and co-created several original works including Old Paper Houses, The Fizzles, Please Make Up Room, 2 Stories that End in Suicide, (The American Museum of) Love & Geography and Tod & I. She has also recently adapted and directed A Man’s a Man and The Cherry Orchard at Columbia Stages. Her work has performed in NY at Triple Canopy, HERE Arts Center, The Wild Project, and The Brick Theater, as well as the AXA Hotel in Prague, and Pageant: Soloveev and Vox Populi galleries in Philadelphia. Rosalie Lowe (Assistant to the Director) is a performer and director who moved to New York City from Portland, Oregon, where she earned her BA in Literature and Theatre at Reed College. During her time in New York City she has worked with Jay Scheib on World of Wires (The Kitchen, KRT Festival Krakow Poland, Lieu Unique Nantes, ICA/Boston, Festival d’Automne Paris) and at La MaMa E.T.C. and has interned with The Wooster Group. Most recent projects include The Woodshed Collective’s The Tenant as an assistant director and performer, and United Broadcasting Theater Company’s Arcane Game as a sound Foley and video operator. She has worked as an assistant director and dramaturg for Portland-based theater company Hand2Mouth and has studied film acting at La Fémis in Paris with NYFA.

Virginia Newcomb (Nicole Triletsky / Osip) La Jolla Playhouse: debut and first production with the wildly creative Jay Scheib team. Virginia has performed in West Coast premieres at The Fountain Theatre; Tennessee Williams’ rarely-seen A House Not Meant to Stand and last spring’s On the Spectrum by Ken LaZebnick. Both garnered Best Actress awards. Other stage work includes The Grapes of Wrath at the Knightsbridge Theatre and This Property Is Condemned at the Globe Playhouse. She has appeared on TV’s The Office and CSI, and stars in several upcoming films including The Boogeyman, based on Stephen King’s short story. She can also be seen with Cillian Murphy and Bill Pullman in Lionsgate’s Peacock. Virginia received scholarships to the Jacksonville State Drama program and The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Laine Rettmer (Jacob, Costume Design, Camera and Associate Director) This is the eighth production on which Rettmer has collaborated with Jay Scheib. Recent works as assistant and associate director with Jay Scheib include the acclaimed production of Thomas Ades’ Powder her Face with New York City Opera at Brooklyn Academy of Music; Untitled Mars (This Title May Change); Bellona, Destroyer of Cities; A House in Bali and World of Wires. On-camera work includes roles on the TV shows Boardwalk Empire, Rescue Me, Suits and Blue Bloods, and in the film Fur with Nicole Kidman. Currently Rettmer and Jay Scheib are in preproduction for a short film about the health crisis in America through the eyes and teeth of a vampire and a new adaptation of the Chinese classical opera Farewell my Concubine for the National Theater of Ningbo, China and CCTV. Her first music video, Zion, for actor Michael Pitt’s band, Pagoda, will be released this fall. Jay Scheib (Adaptor, Director, Designer) A 2011/12 Guggenheim Fellow and 2012 OBIE Winner for best Direction, Scheib is a director, designer and author of plays, operas and live art events. Internationally known for works of daring physicality, genre-defying performances and deep integration of new (and used) technologies, Scheib’s productions include the season opener for New York City Opera of Thomas Adès’ opera Powder her Face, which played to great acclaim at Brooklyn Academy of Music in February 2013 followed by performances as part of the Festival d’opéra de Québec in Canada. Other recent works for the stage have included a new contemporary ballet collaboration with choreographer Yin Mei and the Hong Kong Dance Company titled Seven Sages, which premiered in March 2012; a new staging of Fassbinder’s controversial play Garbage, the City and Death with the Norwegian Theater Academy in Oslo, Norway; and Scheib’s own original Fassbinder adaptation World of Wires, which premiered at The Kitchen in New York City and for which Scheib was awarded a 2012 OBIE Award for Best Direction. Subsequent performances of World of Wires included presentations in Krakow, Poland as part of the KRT Festival, the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, Lieu Unique in Nantes and Festival d’Automne in Paris at the Maison des Arts Cretéil (MAC), France. Also having toured in France and Boston was the recent adaptation of Samuel R. Delany’s novel Dhalgren, titled Bellona, Destroyer of Cities, which played the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and the MAC Exit Festival in Paris, following its premiere at the Kitchen. As a frequent director of operas and works for music theater, Scheib staged Evan Ziporyn’s A House in Bali as part of BAM’s Next Wave Festival 2010; Beethoven’s Fidelio at the Saarländisches Staatstheater; and an original collaboration with punk band World Inferno titled Addicted to Bad Ideas, which toured eight cities internationally. Named Best New York Theater Director by Time Out New York in 2009, and one of the 25 theater artists who will shape the next 25 years of American theater by American Theater Magazine, Scheib is a recipient of the MIT Edgerton Award, The Richard Sherwood Award, a National Endowment for the Arts/TCG fellowship and the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship. Natalie Thomas (Sonya Voynitsev) has worked with Jay Scheib since 2008. Roles include June in Bellona, Destroyers of Cities at The Kitchen and Mannie in Untitled Mars (This Title May Change) at PS122. Natalie’s other theater highlights include Lady Macbeth in Sleep No More at The McKittrick Hotel, Natalie in Lucid at The Cherry Lane Theatre and Ellie/Susie in The Wooster Group’s House/Lights at St. Ann’s Warehouse. Anouschka Trocker (Sound Design) is a sound designer and director of radio plays based in Berlin and Sicily. She made sound installations and sound design for film and theater. Her last radio drama was at the German Radiodrama Festival at the ZKM Karlsruhe. Currently, she has a sound installation at the Bauhausmuseum in Dessau, Germany. Her radio plays are broadcast on the German national radio, ARD, and the Italian Rai. In theater, she has worked in Germany, France, Belgium, the United States and Switzerland.
Susan Wilson (Stage Manager) is a director and stage manager based in Boston. She is a founding member of The Coalition, an ensemble-based theater troupe. Epic and intimate, and spun round the mythic birth of Aphrodite, goddess of beauty love and desire, a performance of specially constructed puppets enchant and invite us to dream awake before they return from whence they came. Accompanied by Japanese master musician Yumiko Tanaka’s live soundscape, the audience will gather on the sands of beautiful La Jolla Shores beach for this one-of-a-kind event.

David Ojala (Performer) is a theatrical artist living and working in New York City. He is a performer, lighting designer, scenic designer, carpenter and all around fun-loving individual. David loves to work with Tandem Otter Productions and Basil Twist because of the inventive nature of his work. They have worked together on Arias with a Twist Deluxe, Symphony Fantastique, Dogugaeshi and, most recently, the world premiere of The Rite of Spring at UNC Chapel Hill this past April. Currently, David is the technical director and production manager for the performance space Manhattan Movement and Arts Center in NYC, while also running the Off-Broadway theater company The Active Theater as the TD and PM. Occasionally he moonlights on stage as an actor as well. Jessica Scott (Performer) is a self-taught visual artist, director, performer and teacher living in NYC and working abroad. Her work includes puppetry, specialty props, installation and sculpture. She’s had the pleasure of designing for Basil Twist, Lee Breuer, Mabou Mines, The Addams Family Musical, Big Fish on Broadway, Julian Crouch and Improbable Theater, Red Bull Theater, Clubbed Thumb and many other talents. As a director of puppetry, she’s created the physical language for the puppetry in Mabou Mines’ Porco Morto and their current production La Divina Caricatura, as well as for her own works. She has puppeteered for the artists above and for Pee-wee Herman, Moisés Kaufman, Blind Summit, Björk and Flight of the Conchords. Jessica is currently developing her own full-length piece, Ship of Fools, as a HARP resident artist at HERE, and just finished designing and shooting her first full-length puppet film, The Never Bell. Yumiko Tanaka (Musical Direction/Shamisen Improvisation) was born in Japan’s Fukuoka prefecture and received an MA in Musicology from Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music. In 1979, she began studying with gidayu artist Komanosuke Takemoto, and the following year became a disciple of Kinshi Nozawa, the gidayu shamisen master. Since her debut in 1981 at the Honmoku-tei in Tokyo, Tanaka has been very active as a shamisen player and vocalist, not only in the world of traditional Japanese music, but also in contemporary music, opera, dance and musical theater. Her credits range from performing with major orchestras to collaborating with pioneers in the world of jazz and experimental improvisation. Tanaka has founded and participated in several contemporary music groups, including Pro Musica Nipponia, the Kitchen Drinkers, ITO and Ground-Zero. She has soloed at international festivals and has performed in Heiner Goebbels’ critically acclaimed spectacle Hashirigaki, which has toured all over the world. She has been awarded the Education Minister’s Art Encouragement Prize for Young Musicians and a fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council. Yumiko Tanaka is an Associate Professor at Hyogo University of Teacher Education, where she teaches Japanese music history. Basil Twist (Director and Designer) is an internationally-renowned puppetry designer who continually expands the realm of puppetry by creating new works that have been described as “joyful,” “kaleidoscopic, romantic, haunting and hallucinogenic.” He is very proud to be returning to La Jolla Playhouse with a work of his own. The sole American graduate of France’s Ecole Superieure Nationale des Arts de la Marionnette, he is a Doris Duke Performing Artist and the recipient of an Obie Award, two Drama Desk Awards, a Guggenheim Fellowship and five UNIMA Awards for Excellence in Puppetry. Twist is the director of The Dream Music Puppetry Program at HERE in New York. We Built This City, from Australia’s Polyglot Theatre, features a giant public construction site that uses thousands of cardboard boxes and the energy and ingenuity of kids and families to build a magnificent imagined city in one day. Buildings go up, are pulled down, redesigned, extended, walked through and reconstructed before everyone joins in trampling the city down into a gloriously chaotic heap of cardboard rubble. Sue Giles (Concept and Direction) is Artistic Director of Polyglot Theatre, appointed in 2000. Her unique child‐centered creative processes have been the subject of master classes and forums nationally and internationally (including key industry events in Sweden, London, Singapore and USA). Sue’s works have been performed in ten countries on five continents in five different languages, and have been presented by Melbourne, Sydney and Darwin Festivals and the world’s leading arts centers (Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, National Theatres of London, Korea, China, Singapore and Taiwan, Sydney Opera House, Arts Centre Melbourne). Her works have achieved high profile presentations: The Big Game (Melbourne International Arts Festival, Singapore Arts Festival, Awesome Arts Festival), Check Out! In 2003, she was the Australian representative at the International Director’s Forum hosted by ASSITEJ Germany. In 2004 she was the Victorian Representative on the National Board of YPAA (Young People and the Arts, Australia). In 2009, Sue was the Puppetry Director of the Australian production of the Broadway musical, Avenue Q. In 2011 Sue was one of a panel of leading Australian arts organizations for the ASSITEJ International Children’s Theatre Festival and Congress in Denmark and Sweden and she was keynote speaker for the YPAA National Symposium in Sydney 2012 and the Early Childhood Foundation state wide forum in Tasmania in 2013.

Dan Goronszy (Performer) is a performer, designer, puppeteer and community arts worker. She is a core artist with Polyglot Theatre and Barking Spider Visual Theatre, frequently touring nationally and internationally (including London’s National Theatre and Japan’s Tsunami region, 2011). So far in 2012 she was deviser and performer in When Claude Met Roxy, puppeteer in What’s in My Suitcase at iconic Melbourne venue, The Sidney Myer Music Bowl, puppeteer in Memory in Flight at Tarrengower Puppet Festival, and toured We Built This City to New Zealand, Korea and Brisbanes’ Out of the Box. In 2011 she wrote, directed and designed Bobbing for Apples for 2011 Midsumma Festival (supported by Moreland Grants), Madam Saquizhas’ Golden Fortune and Red. She was puppeteer and maker on ABC3 TV’s My Strange Pet by Anthony Lucas 3D films. From 2010-2012 she was Artistic Director of Liminal Lines, working with youth at risk and in the youth justice system. Dan is currently puppet director and designer for Memorandium and is completing an Extended Schools Residency at Dandenong West Primary School.
Mischa Long (Director) is a Melbourne-based puppeteer, teacher, designer, maker and artist who has worked with Polyglot since 1996. He has had a long and varied career in the arts, designing and building shows for many companies, devising work and performing. There have been stints in the art departments of children’s television, large-scale construction for the events industry, and small workshops with children, teens and adults, teaching puppetry skills, making techniques, and devising group pieces from the very intimate to the large scale. As well as this he has maintained his own arts practice he has toured extensively with Polyglot, as a physical performer/designer in We Built This City and as a puppeteer in Check Out! as well as being involved in the ‘incursion’ programs – working within schools to create puppets and performances with children, based upon their own ideas and interests. A recent teaching graduate (teaching art, of course!), he has managed to pull together all the threads of his experience and training to be able to present a wide range of workshops, utilizing his skills to guide, inform and hopefully inspire creative ideas and outcomes for everyone, regardless of previous experience or perceived skill!
Lachlan MacLeod (Performer) is an actor, singer/songwriter and puppeteer. He graduated from the University of Melbourne’s School of Creative Arts with a major in Media Production. He has written songs for local and international touring theatre productions and has performed in large-scale productions such as the mini-series The Pacific and Melbourne’s own Underbelly. In his work with the internationally renowned Polyglot Theatre, Lachlan has performed in the large-scale interactive play-spaces of Tangle, We Built This City, Sticky Maze and Ants, touring to England, Scotland, Ireland, China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and the USA; wrestled with the unruly roving puppet acts of Tooth & Claw, Madame Bustle and the Wild Things; performed in Polyglot’s popular Muckheap in the USA and a National Tour of Australia. When not travelling the world entertaining children, Lachlan is performing throughout Australia in Phunktional Arts Company’s school touring productions of Love Drunk and Who Stole the Sole. Over the past four years Lachlan has produced five full-length original musical-comedy Christmas albums. In 2012 Lachlan continued his songwriting success, debuting his original two-man comedy cabaret Saturn Returns to a sell-out season in Melbourne. Later that year the show travelled to Brisbane Cabaret Festival, as well as supporting comedy legends Tripod. In 2013 Saturn Returns had a two week run in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Lachlan is also currently developing an original radio play with Melbourne writer Jane Jervis-Read, as well as an original children’s television series with Melbourne actor Lucia Smyrk, while also lending his music and puppeteering talents to Moon Safari, a project with Anthony Kucas and Megan Cameron.

Bree-Anna Obst (Performer) first joined Polyglot for the 2009 season of We Built This City at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Whilst living in Miami, she also joined Polyglot for USA tours of Tangle and We Built This City, donning a onesie and hardhat, respectively. Bree-Anna toured Australia in the 2013 national tour of Muckheap. She is an experienced performer, specializing in Shakespeare, children’s theatre, physical comedy, characterizations and anything which requires her to tap into her inner child. She has performed on some of the world’s leading stages including Shakespeare’s Globe (London), Lincoln Center (New York), The Kennedy Center (Washington D.C.), Hi Seoul Festival (Korea) and Arts Centre Melbourne. Bree-Anna recently performed as ‘Puck’ and as ‘Juliet’ with Shakespeare Miami and performed in her own one-woman show, An Evening of Good Things in Miami. Her television credits include guest roles in Neighbours, Blue Heelers and The Secret Life of Us. Bree-Anna began her professional theatre career aged ten in 1992, working with the iconic Handspan puppetry company in Four Little Girls. Bree-Anna studied Creative Arts at The University of Melbourne, majoring in Theatre Studies, and has received various training over the years including voice, dance, stage combat and a special set of workshops with Shakespeare’s Globe. Futuristic Retro Ritual By James Luna Presented by Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego
In this new work commissioned by MCASD, celebrated performance and conceptual artist James Luna takes up the iconic image of the American Indian storyteller as a vehicle for his narratives of contemporary Indian life. A Pooyukitchum/Luiseño Indian living on the La Jolla Reservation in northern San Diego County, Luna’s fireside stories incorporate multimedia elements and music, interweaving past and present, autobiography and cultural identity, with poignancy and humor.
James Luna’s work has been collected by museums nationally and internationally, and he was commissioned by the Smithsonian Institution to represent the National Museum of the American Indian at the Venice Biennale in 2005. His work has been presented at The Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, Santa Fe; LA County Museum of Art; The National Gallery of Canada; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Whitney Museum of American Art; Nippon International Performance Art Festival, among others. Orifice II By Jacolby Satterwhite Presented by Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego
Orifice II offers a site-specific, performative video installation in which Jacolby Satterwhite performs as one of the avatars that appear in his 3-D computer animations. Expanding and blurring the barriers between video and live action, Satterwhite performs a provisionally choreographed dance based on the drawings he often references in his video practice, with variables in the performance shifting in response to his audience.
Jacolby Satterwhite received an M.F.A. from University of Pennsylvania and a B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art. His work has been included in group exhibitions such as Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art at the Contemporary Arts Center Houston; Shift: Projects | Perspectives | Directions at The Studio Museum in Harlem; Fore (the fourth iteration of the “F” series including Frequency, Freestyle, and Flow) at The Studio Museum in Harlem; First Look: New Art Online: Aboveground Animation: 3D-Form at the New Museum, New York; and he was a contributor to Clifford Owens’ Anthology project at MoMA/PS1. The recipient of a 1st- and 2nd-year Fine Arts Work Center Fellowship in Provincetown, MA, he will be featured in the 2014 season of New York Close Up, Art21’s documentary film series devoted to artists in the first decade of their professional careers, living and working in New York City.

Kim Blanck (Susan) is an actor, writer and second year M.F.A. candidate in Acting at UC San Diego. UCSD credits include Lavinia in Titus Andronicus, Iris in Ex Machina and Adrian in Hamelin. NYC performing and writing credits include First Ladies Project (The Cookery Festival); The Most Inspiring and Magnificent Tale of Alfridge von Waddlegrave (Brooklyn Lyceum, ANT Fest at Ars Nova) and Folk Wandering (Fresh Ground Pepper). In her first year at UCSD, she was the assistant costume designer for Lumping in Fargo, Casagemas, Hamelin and Ex Machina. She has also costumed the 2010 Berkeley Rep Teen One Acts. Rosie has interned for the costume departments of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (FX) and Community (NBC). She has also trained at Berkeley Rep’s School of Theatre, ACT’s Youth Conservatory, and Steppenwolf Classes West.
Jenna Carino (Scenic Designer) is a second year M.F.A. scenic designer at UC San Diego. Sanaya Forbes (Stage Manager) will be finishing her Cognitive Science/Theater double major at UC San Diego this fall. Past stage management credits include: RENT and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Muir Musical), The Wizard of Oz (MBRT), Sideshow (LPRT) and The 2012 Asian American Theater Festival (Nomads Theater Company). Her most recent adventure was being an Assistant Stage Manager on Ex Machina in the 2013 New York Fringe Festival.
Walker Hare (Pilk) is a second-year M.F.A. actor at UC San Diego who has worked in various theaters from The Old Vic in London to the SoHo Playhouse and Acorn Theater, Off-Broadway in NYC, and regionally. He has done readings with LAByrinth Theater Company and Primary Stages. Walker has worked across the board, in film, television and commercials. He was a writer, actor and producer of the TV pilot Two Dudes and a Van. Most recently, he was in Fool for Love with the Ubuntu Theater Project. David Jacobi (Playwright) Mr. Jacobi’s plays have been produced and developed throughout the U.S. and in Beijing, China including the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, Portland Center Stage, Great Plains Theatre Conference, WordBRIDGE, Penghao Theater, and 798 Dashanzi Art District. His plays include Widower, Mai Dang Lao, The Monster Below, Ex Machina, Xiao Han and Jenny and Charles Atlas’ Miracle System. He received a B.F.A. in Dramatic Writing from Purchase College, has served as guest lecturer at Clemson University, and is currently enrolled in UC San Diego’s M.F.A. Playwriting program under the tutelage of Naomi Iizuka. David is co-founder of Monster Down! Theatre Company, a collaborative theatre group in Beijing, China.

In Hedda’ing, by San Diego-based performer/choreographer and UCSD M.F.A. candidate Sam Mitchell, Sam joins Norway-based dance theatre artists Siri Jondtvedt and Snelle Hall in the cross-cultural dance theatre exploration. Using Henrik Ibsen’s play Hedda Gabler as a source, the production investigates the polarities that exist between the role of home as a sanctuary and as a prison, between memory and reality, and between the existential and the spiritual. Hedda’ing is set in and around artist Do Ho Suh’s “Fallen Star” sculpture at the Jacobs School of Engineering.
Jason Dorwart is a second year Ph.D. student in Theatre at UC San Diego, researching
performances by and about disabled actors. Jason was a regular acting company member of Denver’s Phamaly Theatre Company, with recent performances in The Elephant Man, The Diviners and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Assistant Directing credits: A Play on Two Chairs (University of Colorado); Narnia (CenterStage) and As You Like It (Nebraska Shakespeare Festival). He holds a B.F.A. in Theatre from Creighton University, an M.A. in Theatre from the University of Colorado, and a JD from the University of Denver.
Siri Jøntvedt and Snelle Hall met at The Norwegian College of Dance (now KhiO), and started working together in 1991. At the base of their creative endeavors is the shared belief in true artistic freedom. Their stage presence is as much influenced by high culture as it is by popular culture – and the completely uncultured for that matter. Siri and Snelle enjoy highlighting social undercurrents, and have often chosen hopelessly outdated elements that subsequently have undergone a thorough processing during the course of several performance pieces. Despite the fact that it often feels uncomfortable and claustrophobic, they still manage to see value in the least acceptable cultural references. In this respect, they consider all society’s social norms to be the strongest limitation to creative expression. On this basis, they have found it efficient to use their own personal and intimate spheres as a starting point in order to bring down cultural divides and eliminate social shame. The most important building blocks are elements from different dance techniques, text based theatre, talkshows and live music, all mixed with a healthy – and necessary – dose of humor and self-irony. Another important aspect of their artistic values are the influence of all the musicians, stage artists, students and other creative people they have had the pleasure of working with – because Siri and Snelle realize that the dynamics between people is the true source of the joy, and challenges that drive their continued professional and personal progress. Siri and Snelle’s participation in this production was supported by the Norwegian Cultural Council, The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The Fund for Performing Artists. Sam Mitchell is a second-year UCSD M.F.A. candidate in Dance Theatre who is fascinated
with the collision of dance, theatre, movement, text, film and design. He is motivated by the desire to create and sustain a training practice that activates the performer on stage and in life and finds that the ephemeral experience of dance and theatre can be one of cathartic transformation, liberating the hidden stories that exist deep within the body. Mitchell has danced with Santa Barbara Dance Theatre, Malashock Dance, Patricia Rincon Dance Collective, as well as numerous artists, poets and musicians. A Yaqui Indian, Mitchell was recently invited to join in the creation of a new choreographic work as part of the Banff Summer Arts Festival.

Salvatore Sciarrino’s La perfezione di uno spirito sottile was born as a ritual of music to be performed in the open, in the vicinity of precipices, cliffs, strange rock formations or boundless upland plains. Performed by soprano Stephanie Aston, flutist Rachel Beetz and percussionist Dustin Donahue, this outdoor concert performance, set against the panoramic Wegman overlook, asks the audience to commit to the winds of the flute, bells of time, and sighs of existence, to discover that which unites these divergent landscapes. A primary condition manifests itself in each spectator: a losing of one’s human dimensions, a surrendering to the whole.
Stephanie Aston (Soprano) (D.M.A., UCSD; M.F.A., California Institute of the Arts; B.M., U. North Texas), has performed classical music, including Early Music, Opera and contemporary works, including American and world premieres, at such venues as REDCAT, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Stanford University’s Campbell Recital Hall, UCSD’s Conrad Prebys Music Center and LA’s Hammer Museum.
Rachel Beetz (Flute) has performed in the SoundSCAPE Festival in Maccagno, Italy, the Ojai Music Festival, LA’s Monday Evening Concerts, and as a guest artist/lecturer at Santa Clara University. An affiliated artist of San Diego New Music, Beetz holds a B.M. from Indiana University and an M.A. from UCSD, where she is currently pursuing her D.M.A. in contemporary music performance.
Dustin Donahue (Percussion) is a percussionist residing in San Diego, where he performs regularly with the percussion group red fish blue fish under the direction of UCSD’s Steven Schick. As a soloist, he has appeared at the John Cage Centennial Festival in Washington D.C., the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Carlsbad Music Festival and the soundSCAPE Festival in Pavia, Italy.

PATRICIA RINCON DANCE COLLECTIVE Patricia Rincon (Artistic Director) has performed, directed, choreographed and participated
in annual workshops and performances in Mexico, Argentina, Europe, and California. As Artistic Director of Patricia Rincon Dance Collective, she has continued developing the popular annual Blurred Borders Dance Festival and the Myth Project: American Dream dance-theatre series, set in San Diego each year. The company completed a performance tour to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2012, and this year is performing in the TANZINOLTEN Dance Festival, with other performances in Zurich. Patricia also continues to develop numerous dance video-film projects. The company has performed in the TANZINOLTEN Dance Festival in Switzerland, and the Cuerpos Entransito International Dance Festival at the Centro Cultural Tijuana Performing Arts Center, UCSD’s University Events Office National Dance Series, the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art’s Arts Partnership Program in La Jolla and at Sushi Performance and Visual Arts. Each summer for the past 30 years Ms. Rincon has been invited to annual artist-in-residences at the Universities of Heidelberg, Frankfurt, Mannheim, and in Konstanz, Germany. She also taught for many years at the Universities of Zurich, Bern, and Lugano in Switzerland, and in 2011 she was artist-in-residency with her company at the prestigious IUNA Instituto Universitario Nacional de Arte in Buenos Aries. Ms. Rincon is currently Head of both Graduate and Undergraduate Dance at the University of California San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance. Melanie Chen (Sound Designer) The resident sound designer for PRDC is currently pursuing her MFA degree in Sound Design at UC San Diego. She is a proud member of ion theatre company in Hillcrest and has worked extensively there. Most notably, she won the Craig Noel Award 2011 in Sound Design for Tony Kushner’s Angels in America. She was nominated again in 2012 for Sarah Kane’s Blasted. Currently Melanie is also working with director Glenn Paris on Punk Rock and with Gabor Tompa on Tonight We Improvise.
Kenna Crouch (Collaborative Choreographer and Performer) is a yogini, contemporary dancer and performing artist. Growing up in the south San Francisco Bay area, she first trained in classical ballet, jazz, tap, and lyrical dance with Jean and Suzanne San Juan of the San Juan School of Dance in Los Altos, CA, and then in jazz and contemporary dance with Keith Banks of Studio 10 Dance in Cupertino. After that she became certified at the elementary level of the Royal Academy of Dance (London) syllabus, before moving on to develop extensive regional and national competitive dance experience. In 2008, she graduated cum laude from the University of California, San Diego with degrees in Dance and Sociology. Just before graduating she began dancing with the Patricia Rincon Dance Collective. She continues performing and teaching with PRDC throughout San Diego as well as in Europe and South America. She is most grateful for all the amazing opportunities and experiences to dance and teach, and for all the people, internationally, she has been able to work with. Sarah Navarrete (Collaborative Choreographer and Performer) Over the past 12 years Sarah has developed her passion for teaching, creating and performing dance and Pilates throughout the country in New Mexico, Texas, NYC and California. She graduated with a B.A. in Dance from New Mexico State University before relocating to New York City, where she danced with acclaimed modern dance companies Yung-Li Dance and 4th Right Dance. Sarah also choreographed for and danced with aerial-modern dance company Project in Motion, as well as with several independent artists including Joanna Hughes, Adelka Polake and Martha Tournay. She has taught Pilates and modern dance at New Mexico State University and has presented at many national workshops, including the American College Dance Festival, the National Dance Education Organization, and AAHPERD. Sarah now resides in California where she continues to grow as a movement educator, choreographer and dancer. Since founding her own company Movement Arts in 2011, she has dedicated her dance-fitness initiatives to facilitate movement for clients to exist as active, healthy and expressive individuals. Sarah is excited to be dancing with Patricia Rincon Dance Collective, The PGK Dance Project and Visionary Dance Theatre. Thanks to her own appreciation of the arts, and moral support from friends and family, Sarah continues to educate and inspire individuals to move to live and live to move! 42
Sarah Norwood (Collaborative Choreographer and Performer) first realized her interest in dance as a commercial dance student at the Orange County High school of the Arts. While studying liberal arts and dance at Orange Coast College and Santa Ana College, and playing her guitar, Sarah became interested in modern dance, movement composition, and composing music for dance. Sarah later transferred to San Diego State University to study dance, and developed an interest in gestural movement, dance for camera, improvisation, and movement’s inherent aspects of cognitive science, anatomy and physics. Before graduating with a BFA in Dance from SDSU in 2012, Sarah produced her thesis work, The Gloaming, for which she arranged the musical score, which was performed live by her brother, Christopher Norwood. Since graduating, Sarah has continued her movement research while becoming a certified yoga instructor and dancing with the Patricia Rincon Dance Collective. While working with the company for her second season, Sarah has become interested in verbalization while moving, as well as in the writings of Irene Dowd. The joy of moving has propelled Sarah throughout her development as a creator and performer. As she continues to strive towards maximum facility, Sarah hopes to create work that illuminates the beauty of human experience, conjoins the senses, and silences the mind.
Mario Acevedo Torero (Guest Artist) is one of the most prominent artista chicanos, pioneer founders of the Chicano arts movement, was born in Lima, Peru. He migrated to San Diego with his famous father, Indian master artist Guillermo Acevedo, at the age of twelve. Mario assimilated into the city’s ghetto/barrio surrounded by the success of his father and the social uprising of the sixties. Together father and son participated in the phenomenal human renaissance movement of indigenous peoples of the earth. With the local Chicano artists and community, in 1970 they created the first cultural art center in the country, in San Diego – The Centro Cultural de la Raza, in Balboa Park – and also participated in creating the world-famous Chicano Park in Barrio Logan, downtown. Torero has traveled and painted murals throughout the world. His easel work has been and continues to be exhibited and collected. One of his important 2D monuments, include the glass/mosaic installation, Chicano Legacy, 40 Anos, a 17- x 58-ft mural on Peterson Hall at UCSD campus that he unveiled in 2011. Torero’s walls encompass their environment, balancing its energy and vibes with a diverse medium of actors. So it is with the Che Café murals, created and dedicated as a “gift of love” to the return of Angela Davis to the UCSD campus in 1993.
Natalia Valerdi (Associate Artistic Administrator) is a video artist, social media specialist, and creative collaborator with the Patricia Rincon Dance Collective. She is currently developing and implementing PRDC’s social marketing strategy. Valerdi began her work in dance and technology as the Audio-Visual specialist in the Dance Department at the University of Utah, and is currently a visiting lecturer at UCSD. Her collaborations with Patricia Rincon include The Myth Project V: Cowboys, Peeled and BODYPARTS. Valerdi has also collaborated with choreographers Alicia Rincon and Yolande Snaith. Valerdi received her M.F.A. in Dance and Technology from the University of California, Irvine. She currently co-teaches PRDC’s outreach program at La Jolla Country Day School with Patricia Rincon, in addition to teaching dance at UCSD’s Department of Theatre and Dance and at Southwestern College, and also works with Collaborations of Teachers and Artists.

Hanna Cook has been dancing since she was seven years old. She is currently pursuing a BA in Dance at UC San Diego and hopes to become a professor of dance.
Melissa Gallegos was a national competitor in figure skating for 13 years and is a triple gold-medalist through the USFSA, as well as being a PSA certified instructor. She acquired her AA in Dance through San Diego City College and recently received her BA in Dance & Theater from UC San Diego. Melissa is currently working with the Patricia Rincon Dance Collective as well as Naganuma 2 in fall 2013.
Bonnie Lee is studying at UC San Diego with emphasis on Dance and Linguistics. She has a strong background in ballet and jazz and is currently dancing with California Ballet Company.
Claudia Varela is a third-year Bio-Engineering BS, and a Dance BA student at UC San Diego. She is from the border city, Reynosa, Mexico and before that lived in Mission, Texas before moving to San Diego.
Qing (Abbie) Wang graduated from the Chinese Guang Dong Dance School in 2006, majoring in Classical Chinese Dance. She continued her training in 2008 at Beijing Dance Academy, specializing in Chinese Ethnic and Classical Dance. While studying Communication and Dance at UC San Diego, Abbie has performed in Arts in Action, Winter Works and The Myth Project VII: NonSense with Patricia Rincon Dance Collective.
SIDE SHOW Raul Enciso is a UC San Diego Dance major who feels that dance is a way to express himself as well as bringing peace and harmony to his body, mind, and soul. Raul says that the techniques and life lessons he has learned in dance up to this point he will cherish throughout his life.
Jeff Sanchez has been in numerous theatre and dance productions in San Diego, including many collaborations with Patricia Rincon. He is currently finishing up nursing school, focusing on becoming a NICU Nurse.

Our Star Will Die Alone By Project Planetaria’s Adam Burgasser, Tara Knight and Michael Trigilio
What does it mean to live the life of a star? Our Star Will Die Alone, created by Project Planetaria’s Adam Burgasser, Tara Knight and Michael Trigilio (all UCSD faculty members) will explore this question with a participatory, site-specific performance that follows the lifecycle of our star. Integrating data-driven elements rooted in our scientific understanding of stellar astrophysics, audience members will be given custom electronics to explore fusion, the power source of our star. Through sound, light, projection and a death metal band, this performance will articulate the productive and destructive aspects of stellar evolution.
Adam Burgasser is an observational astrophysicist specializing in very low mass stars, brown dwarfs and exoplanets. He has published over 150 papers in his field and is best known for defining the “T” spectral class of brown dwarfs. He earned his B.S. in Physics from UCSD in 1996 and his Ph.D. in Physics from Caltech in 2001. He was previously a Hubble and Spitzer postdoctoral fellow and faculty at MIT, where his name lives on in the AJB-Endowed Chair of Astrophysics. He is currently faculty in the Physics Department at UCSD. Tara Knight is a filmmaker, animator and projection designer. Her short films and animations have screened at “The Future of Storytelling” Time Warner Media Lab in NYC, the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, and have received Director’s Citations from the Black Maria Film Festival. The Floating World, a project she co-created with Malashock Dance at the San Diego Museum of Art, earned an Emmy Award. You can find her recent Discovery Channel feature at taraknight.net. She received her B.A. in Film Theory and Production from Hampshire College and her M.F.A. in Visual Art from UCSD. She previously was Associate Director for Culture, Art and Technology at UCSD’s Sixth College and joined the Theatre & Dance Department faculty in 2009.
Michael Trigilio is a UCSD faculty member and multimedia artist with a special focus on sound art. His work in video, sound and radio has been presented in many venues nationally and internationally, including the New York’s Anthology Film Archives, Southern Exposure in San Francisco, Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain in Strasbourg, the Contemporary Museum in Baltimore, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). He earned his B.A. in Humanities from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1999 and his M.F.A. from Mills College in 2003.

Wallpaper Performance Company’s generative dance theatre experience brings live sound artists, lighting designers, dancers and audiences together on a real-time journey into our collective imagination. By weaving an actual conversation between performers and audience, Alicia Peterson Baskel’s production offers access to the inner workings of the performers’ minds and reveals the mostly absurd and often wonderful imagery that is continuously emerging live on stage. Kristopher Apple (Composer) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work spans the fields of electroacoustic music, contact improvisation, and sound poetry. Apple makes his living as a violinist composing and performing music for dance and has performed in Europe and extensively throughout the west coast including Ensenada, Tijuana, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Since 2007 he has served as studio faculty for the San Diego State University School of Music and Dance where he accompanies dance classes and is the technical director for the dance theater. Apple has participated in LIVE since 2008, and in 2011 cofounded Odd&Even, a collaborative music and dance ensemble. In 2010 he received a Meet the Composers grant for his work with the PGK project. Apple is a member of the Grey Pony Writers Guild, and his poetry is published in Furniture: poems & stories (Sheridan Press). He is currently working toward a Master of Arts degree in interdisciplinary studies and researching intersections and composites of music, dance, and poetry in performance art.
Alicia Peterson Baskel (Choreographer) is artistic director and founder of the generative dance group Wallpaper Performance Company. She has been making dances in San Diego since 2003 and received her M.F.A. in Dance Theatre from the UC San Diego in 2011. Her choreographic work has been presented by numerous local presenters including Sushi Performance and Visual Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and recently toured internationally to Tijuana, Mexico and Prague, Czech Republic.

Alina Bokovikova (Costume Design) is thrilled to work with Wallpaper Performance Company. Her recent design credits include A Doll’s House ( The Old Globe Theatre); the world premiere of Becoming Cuba, the musical Words By... (North Coast Repertory Theatre); The Playwrights Project and The Great American Trailer Park Musical (San Diego Repertory Theatre); References to Salvador Dali Makes Me Hot; A Man, His Wife, and His Hat and A Raisin in a Sun (MOXIE Theatre). Ms. Bokovikova has an M.F.A. in Costume Design from UC San Diego and a Master’s Degree in Education from Russia. She is an instructor of costume design at UC San Diego and FIDM.
Katie Lorge (Performer) received her B.A. in Dance from UC San Diego in 2009. Her current performance research includes but is not limited to: biography, identity, iconology, remembrance, togetherness and freedom. She is currently a student in the Graduate Diamonds program at the Gemological Institute of America.
Jennifer Oliver (Performer) holds a B.A. in dance from UC Irvine, a M.A. in Expressive Arts Therapy and Education from the European Graduate School, and is the Associate Director for Young Audiences of San Diego. Jennifer is the Co-Director and Founder of the Arts Education Resource Organization (AERO) and the Teaching Artist Institute of San Diego. Jennifer is the Advisory Council Chair for the state-wide initiative, Teaching Artists Organized, and is on the Executive Committee for Arts Empower San Diego – a county-wide initiative to bring arts education to every child. Jennifer is a company member of Wallpaper Performance Company and serves on the Board.
Omar Ramos (Live Lighting Designer) is a lighting, sound and projections designer. He is interested in emerging technologies, real-time design for aleatoric stage performances, and works that question perceptions of reality and undermine prevailing ideas about how humanity and the world function.

A Willow Grows Aslant: An Ophelia Story takes the audience on a journey into the fractured psyche of a young woman torn between her father’s political ambitions, her boyfriend’s revenge fantasies and her own private dream of becoming a dancer. Creating an immersive, ambulatory experience that is different for each audience member, the labyrinthine corridors of Galbraith Hall’s basement will bloom with flowers and broken mirrors as Ophelia’s dreams for her future become nightmares in this re-imagining of Hamlet through the eyes of its laconic heroine. Eva Barnes (Gertrude) recently played Margaret in Richard III at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival. Other stage credits include Pride and Prejudice and Aunt Dan and Lemon (South Coast Repertory Theatre); The Three Sisters, Family Planning (Chalk Repertory Theatre); My Year of Living Anxiously with Moira Keefe, Arrow to the Heart (Vox Nova Theatre); The Threepenny Opera (Kansas City Lyric Opera); Othello, The Taming of the Shrew, Crimes of the Heart, Absent Friends and more (Missouri Repertory Theatre); Hunger and Thirst (Odyssey Theatre); The Recruiting Officer, Dead Souls (Milwaukee Repertory Theatre); The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Los Angeles Shakespeare Festival) and many plays at UC San Diego. Flower Power! Artist: Amy Mayfield Art grows! Create your own clay wildflower sculpture with local artist, Amy Mayfield. Amy E. Mayfield lives and works in San Diego. She received her M.F.A. from the Art Institute of Chicago in 2006 and has had solo shows at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Threewalls Gallery in Chicago. Her work has been shown in group shows in Chicago, San Francisco, New York and Berlin. Currently she owns and operates Clay Munchkins, a small business providing clay classes to a number of public and private schools throughout San Diego County. Her paintings and installations evoke an imagined space, born out of a diacritic approach to the artist’s memory and experience. Often contrasting heavy, indulgent gobs of poured paint with delicate ink details that operate like ornamental filigree, she evokes a constantly shifting emotional tonality to her work.

Bombshell Boom Boom (!) is a DIY band encouraging anyone who wants to join, creating a critical mass of people playing rhythms and textures on home-made instruments. They’ve held events worldwide, including a UNESCO-sponsored event in Alberta Canada, a pick up show at The Stone in New York City and a workshop at the Fluxus Ministry in Vilnius, Lithuania. Bombshell Boom Boom (!) creates creators by exploding the distinction between artist and audience.

FotoAktion Artist: Perry Vasquez Ready, set, Aktion! Join San Diego artist Perry Vasquez in FotoAktion, an interactive photo opportunity and portrait drawing workshop. Develop new art skills while you help document the people and energy of your neighborhood! This workshop is free and designed for all ages. No prior art experience necessary!
Perry Vasquez is an artist and educator living in San Diego He received an A.B. in Political Science and Studio Art from Stanford University and attended UC San Diego’s Visual Art M.F.A. program. From 1993–1997, he served as Assistant Curator at the Centro Cultural de la Raza where he curated Plan 9 from Aztlan and other exhibits focused on Chicana/o aesthetics and cultural issues. Throughout the 1990s he worked on developing an array of unique artistic practices including motography in which recycled motor oil is used for fine art printmaking. He also developed a number of interactive artworks using tape loops, motion detectors and sound collages. These works were done in collaboration with Randall Evans and were featured in the Off-Broadway Show at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in 2000. From 2000–2002, Mr. Vasquez served as graphics specialist at the Interactive Cognition Lab at UC San Diego, where they launced Apollo13Art.com, a site devoted to multimedia learning and the research and development of my artistic ideas. He has also operated Ice Gallery in San Diego as a space for contemporary art and created the Keep on Crossin’ Project in collaboration with Victor Payan. Since 2005, he has been a teacher at Southwestern Community College School of Arts and Communications.

We like to stay true to where we all started from the street and really try to bring that aesthetic out in each piece we do.

Dragon Knights Stilt Theater Created by Lili Noden
Dragon Knights’ goal is to produce a cultural mix street performances, combining Circus and Theatre, performance and Poetry, Dream and technology and bring the Magic as close as they can. Trained and performed in the Arts of Circus, Masked Theatre, Make-up and Puppetry, in Europe, Asia and the U.S.A., they have the desire to offer visual and interactive events based on multicultural roots, to be among the audience and play with them. They performed in many Festivals, Street fairs, Zoo and Museums. Dragon Knights adds a whole dimension to your event and venue with these unique stilt walkers and puppeteers who wander through times and bring to life fairies, dragons and elves, buffoons and beasts...but if you want to see them, better raise your eyes.
Lili Noden was trained by Pascal Laurent from the “Friches Theatre Urbain,” one of the most famous European stilt companies, and mastered the art of being an actor on stilts. She participated as a stilt performer for diverse shows in several companies including theater, street performances and circus. She has performed under a big top in Paris as well as with a national tour. Starring next to Bruno Boiliveau of Les Cavaliers de l’aventure, she performed her last show in Paris before immigrating to the United States in 1994. She landed in Florida where she performed as a stilt walker puppeteer at the Epcot Center, Walt Disney World, and with “les évènements Nuits Blanche” on the side of Julian Gabriel and Marjorie Laurent, the niece of Lili’s stilt Master. For six years, she not only rode on the wooden stilt birds stilts called “Cirikli” but she also collaborated in designing and building these with her Puppet master, JP Michel Valles. During this period with the French troupe, Lili performed, trained new talent and built over 14 new wooden puppets. The French troupe take part at the opening of “Animal Kingdom” at Disney world Florida and produce another show for Epcot called “Aviator.” Lili later traveled to the West Coast and established her own company, Dragon Knights, Inc. Not long after she arrived in California, Lili was hired by the San Diego Zoo and Sea World as well as festivals, art museums, and special events across the state. She has designed new shows every year for the past 10 years for the Orange County Fair, the San Diego State Fair, the Insomniac Festival, Nocturnal Festival and other music festivals around the USA.
