Storage solutions

When it comes to storage, one size does not fit all. That’s why we spend so much time thinking about how different people work and what we can do to help them work better. Like creating a box that holds up forever, yet recycles easily. Or designing research-based workspaces that are as perfect for “filers” as they are for “pilers.” Steelcase® storage works overtime with our furniture systems to offer all kinds of choices. All you have to think about is what’s best for you.

Get in the zone with Universal Storage. Universal Storage plays nicely with all Steelcase furniture systems, giving you all sorts of sizes, shapes and materials to choose from. Storage can become an integrated backbone of a well-designed workstation when user needs are considered in the office layout. So, who needs what, when? Our research has shown that each zone needs to be considered while planning an effective workplace. Every (well, almost every) zone below represents how and when work gets done in the office.

Display Zone Bowling trophies, action figures, pictures of mom and other spotlight-worthy items

Active Zone Stuff you’re working on right now that would otherwise be piled on your desk

4

Coat and Hat Zone Smelly workout clothes, running shoes, raincoat, superhero cape and other wardrobe vitals

Junk Zone Candy bars, toothbrushes, yesterday’s leftovers and other things you don’t want to share

Anticipated Zone Important stuff covered in deadlines, or things you need often

Quick and Easy Zone Things you never want to have to dig for and always want by your side

Archive Zone Files you’ll never think about again until you really do need them or you get promoted

Calling all pack rats, filers and clean freaks.

So, what’s it all mean?

Setting up the perfect storage combination is a lot like matchmaking, according to our research. Think about what type of work will be done in the space, add the right storage with your worksurfaces and, voilá! The rest is history.

Take a look! The images on the following pages are inspired by our research, showing a variety of ways that storage can be used to create great workspaces. And really, this is just the beginning.

Visual Pilers Out of sight, out of mind. These people need to see their stuff to keep up with it. Shallow worksurfaces and open shelves should be a nice fit.

Clean Desk Filers Team these clean freaks up with closed bins and drawer storage and they’ll love you forever.

Combination Filers They need to see their stuff, but sometimes they need to clean up too. Give these Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hydes a little bit of both with drawers and open shelves.

Up, up and away. High capacity. Small footprint. What’s not to like? Vertical storage can also set workstation boundaries without blocking light or friendly conversation. Plus, there’s nothing like personal lockers and display shelves to make any user feel at home.

Front and center. Save the digging for your weekend gardening. Bookcases and shelves are great for keeping must-have files and high-use reference materials within easy reach.

Vary open storage heights using taller bookcases for privacy, while lower ones create a shared surface between workstations

Display work and inspire collaboration with laterals and open bookshelves that also define space

Things are looking up. Why let all that empty space go to waste? Spread out and up with personal shelves that make the most of your workplace airspace.
