PRIME ASTHMA INHALER Dan Cornish 4
Daniel.w.cornish@gmaill.com 5
PROJECT STATEMENT The goal of this project was design an efficient and sleek inhaler that would give the user confidence when using it in public.
Dan Cornish 6
INSPIRATION Inspiration was drawn from timeless products such as zippos and flasks.
Daniel.w.cornish@gmaill.com 7
PERSONA George Costanza Age: 23 George has always dealt with allergy induced asthma and has to carry an inhaler on him at all times. He’s now reached an age where he cares about his appearance. George is currently looking to buy a new inhaler that he would feel confident about using in public or with his friends.
Dan Cornish 8
ICONIC “L” Inhalers have been around for decades and have changed little in this time period. They have traditionally been utilitarian devices that are awkward to use and transport due to their bulky “L” shape.

FINAL SOLUTION Prime asthma inhaler is an ergonomically designed fusion of vintage and modern aesthetics which mesh to create a handsome and practical product. Prime was designed for all age groups that care about their appearance and want to appear hip when using their inhaler. My goal was to encompass the feeling, look and analog mechanics that Zippo lighters possess by transforming them into an inhaler. Prime’s ergonomic shape and slide button make it effortless to use and easy to transport. Prime’s soft, round shape fits comfortably in most pockets, allowing the user accessibility to their medication at a moments notice. Prime’s aesthetic goal was to create a masculine inhaler that would match the user’s clothing style and appearance. The goal was to create an inhaler that is simply cool and fun to use.
Dan Cornish 14
Daniel.w.cornish@gmaill.com 15
Prime uses a replaceable aluminum medication cartridge with a built in mouthpiece. Cartridges are purchased pre-filled, and empty cartridges are returned for recycling. The cartridge/mouthpiece is waterproof which allows for easy cleaning using soap and water. Medication is triggered by a slide down button resembling the action of using a lighter. This acquired action gives Prime a classic analog quality. To increase its vintage appeal, copper inlays were incorporated to give Prime a masculine and timeless appearance. Sleek aesthetics along with high functionality make Prime a unique product solution.

KONA UNDERWATER BREATHING APPARATUS Dan Cornish 18
Daniel.w.cornish@gmaill.com 19
PROJECT STATEMENT Scuba diving has taken the idea of playing and exploration to an extreme level. For me, the most important aspect of this type of activity is that it serves as a gateway into experiences which push people into discovery and selfrealization. The goal for the this project was to design a tank-less breathing apparatus for scuba divers.

Water intake/exhaust Purge button
Mouthpiece attachment
To recharge the device, water must be pumped into chambers that hold a synthesized crystalline material that absorbs oxygen from the water. The intake and water drainage ports for this system are placed on the front of the device, resembling the gills of a Manta Ray. Kona is sonic welded, giving it a nice, clean appearance with no external fasteners. To clear the device of any water in the breathing chamber, a purge button is used to clear the chamber and allow for breathable air to travel to the diver. By ergonomically placing the button underneath the device, it gives the diver the simplest way to reach and activate the button. Daniel.w.cornish@gmaill.com 25
Kona attaches to buoyancy compensator via a standard mouthpiece clip. Purge button is manually depressed to force air through the device to clear water from breathing stage.
Dan Cornish 26
Kona’s multi-chamber system provides the potential for unlimited dive time and the elimination of air tanks. Kona was designed as a back up air supply for scuba divers, but could be beneficial in multiple other aquatic applications.

TACTUS MODERN ALARM CLOCK Dan Cornish 30
Daniel.w.cornish@gmaill.com 31
PROJECT STATEMENT With phones, tablets, watches, glasses and other products being redesigned for modern day needs and expectations, why has the alarm clock been overlooked? Through my design I want to achieve compartmentalized information which is gained through the users phone and transforms the alarm clock into a central hub for user organization, entertainment, and assistance. The clock will have varied features to provide ease of use and provide a unique experience between user and product interaction. A stand out feature in the design will give the user a quick and simple method of taking notes, setting reminders, sending e-mail letters and text messages using a stylus.
Dan Cornish 32
Product is designed to mesh with modern style interiors, and assist with user organization.
Daniel.w.cornish@gmaill.com 33

STYLUS The position of the end of the spring is determined by the position of the ball in the cam. The motion of the ball is constrained by the shape of the cam. This dictates, which position the spring system will be. When the pen is pushed the cam moves downward. The ball follows the groove in the cam, while remaining inside the groove in the body. The ball must stay in the hart shaped cam, parallel to the axis of stylus storage. The cams offset shape makes the ball only rotate counterclockwise. The force of the spring holds it in place. This mechanism will allow the stylus to spring out of its storage when pressure is applied to the end of it. 6ROLG:RUNV 6WXGHQW (GLWLRQ A. Retracted position. )RU $FDGHPLF 8VH 2QO\ B. Dan Cornish 58
PERSONA Anthony Hernandez Anthony has been wanting to learn how to play the guitar. He works at a local pizza parlor and is saving up for a product that can help him learn basic guitar skills.
Daniel.w.cornish@gmaill.com 59
MOCK UPS Mock ups played a big role in this project. Human factors were especially important, and a variety of full scale mock ups were made to test multiple factors. Through user testing, important design flaws were addressed and fixed. Lastly, a variety of guitar heads were considered, as the shape of the head played a big role in the products overall appearance.
Dan Cornish 60
Notable shape
The final design has a retro theme. It has traits of real guitars, yet has its own style. The final concept was based around aesthetics and ergonomics.
Daniel.w.cornish@gmaill.com 61
The final concept is a retro style guitar trainer. Its primary purpose is to teach basic guitar chords. The guitar only works when an iPhone is plugged into it. The consumer uses an app to talk to the guitar. The user has the option to either utilize the guitar lesson option or play freestyle. Instead of real strings, the guitar trainer uses buttons to represent them. The buttons are shaped and placed to resemble the feel and action of real guitar. Buttons are back lit with LED’s to show the user proper chord shapes. The face of the phone displays a set of strings and the user can pluck or strum the strings like a normal guitar. Integrated into the head of the guitar is the speaker. Another main feature of the guitar trainer is its beat pad. The beat pad offers more depth to the music experience. The user can record a guitar rift and then loop it and use the beat pads to record a drum beat over it to create a song.

1. To place phone into guitar you slide it, connector end first, into the docking area.
2. When slid properly into place, the phone will connect into a 30 pin connector.
Dan Cornish 64
3. The connector pin is attached to a spring loaded mechanism. The user must apply enough pressure to compress the spring and allow the phone to slip into the docking area.
4. When the phone is released, the spring will return to its normal position and in doing so, it will lock the phone in place.
5. With the phone in place you are now ready to rock.

MOJO CIRCULAR SAW Dan Cornish 68
Daniel.w.cornish@gmaill.com 69
PROJECT STATEMENT Current circular saws on the market are bulky and obtrusive. They are hard to store and awkward to transport. These types of saws are used for commercial applications, but also used by many DIY homeowners. The objective for the redesign is to design a product that is compact, eye catching, while still providing the correct amount of power to spin a full sized blade.
Dan Cornish 70
RESEARCH Traditional circular saws tend to have complex shapes that vary from product to product. These odd shapes are dictated by the placement of the dominating components, in particular, the motor and blade. Today’s products arrange the motor on one side and the blade on the other. The weight of the motor is off center which can negatively affect handling. These problems present opportunities for design improvements.

PROJECT STATEMENT Design a unique and eye catching floor speaker with the use of a complex design while leveraging the manufacturing processes and materials to create a one of a kind product. The speaker will be using the latest technology to power and transmit wireless music. The full process from ideation, low volume and high volume manufacturibility, cost analysis, to material exploration will be addressed.

Osprey was designed to be the ultimate fishing SUP board. Its many features make it simple to store and organize plenty of fishing gear as well as other desired items. Osprey’s main goal is to be the leader in SUP board gear security, protection, and convenience. Drawing inspiration from kayaks, the board is rotational molded to give it a hollow hull. This type of hull gives the board the ability to displace passing water and keep most of the board above the waterline, while also allowing for storage space. Designed with quad fins, Osprey gives the user a stable ride that has superior tracking.
