Danger Dogs from Nepal – Folk Art from the Himalayas

Ram Mohan Patel

Ram Mohan lives and works on the taxi route from Boudha and Kathmandu proper. I had gone there on a previous trip and been rebuffed. Ram Mohan did not want to do any Danger Dog paintings. All he wanted to do was stencil a dog image, and he wouldn't budge. But, I am nothing if not dogged. I think he had had bad experiences with foreigners not being happy with his work, and he felt it was not worth the trouble. Finally he agreed to do two signs for me. I absolutely loved the results. The very next trip, again Ram Mohan was still a little hesitant. I don't really understand why, as I am enthusiastic, especially when I get something so different. However, finally, he agreed and I gave him 4 commissions on the latest Danger Dog trip. Ram Mohan's studio is attached to his house, so I have met his family, including his two daughters -- who speak great English – and his wife and sons.
