1 Class Preparation 2 Warm Up 3 Poster Design 4 Lecture 5 Cooking Lunch 6 Eating Together 7 Final Thoughts
1
Class Preparation We began the day by preparing the class space, the projector and chairs for the lecture, and getting ready some of the ingredient for our lunch. While we waited some people were reading books, drawing or sharing feedback about the posters design.
2
Warming Up In class, we believe that making exercise is an important part of the morning routine. Is a great way to set you up for the day. Waking up each morning feeling lethargic, rushing breakfast and leaving the house in a panic may be your usual routine, but sparing 20 minutes for exercise will prepare your mind and body for the tasks that await you.
3
Poster Design Each of us designed posters and brought them to class. Then everybody was giving feedback about each poster, related to images, text and fonts. At the of this exercise, we voted for final layout, and we chose the best one for our final presentation. During this voting time, our group was divided because the cooking team was preparing lunch.
We voted (verbally and with red stickers) for the best characteristics/requirements
that the poster should have, and then we decided which group should design the poster for each day, so all Mondays are covered.
“ Deciding the poster layout among all of us is tough but very enriching.“
4
“ Making our own washing products is safer because we know the ingredients.“

Zero-waste lifestyle

“Zero-Waste is a goal that is both pragmatic and visionary, to guide people to emulate sustainable natural cycles, where all discarded materials are resources for others to use. ZeroWaste means designing and managing products and processes to reduce the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserve and recover all resources, and not burn or bury them. Implementing Zero-Waste will eliminate all discharges to land, water, or air that may be a threat to planetary, human, animal or plant health.” Definition of Zero-Waste as adopted by the Zero-Waste International Alliance
The lecture began with a video: “How this town produces no waste about the community of Komikatsu, Japan. Its citizens aim to have zero waste in their community of 1700 people, by separating their trash into 34 categories to recycle. The rest of the group also discussed about their own experiences in their countries and the differences they have found here in Germany.

Learning experiences Here are some example that were shared during the lecture: • • • • • • •
Mold and clay is used to wash the hair in Iran Using cedar soap is healthier than shower gel Vinegar or baking soda can be used as a substitute for shampoo Coconut oil, baking soda and peppermint oil is useful as toothpaste Bamboo utensils are better and longer lasting than plastic To wash dishes a better option are coconut sponges instead of normal sponges Menstrual cups are getting popular among women and they are less contaminant than menstrual pad
“ Also we should
protect our skin, as it is the largest organ in our body, and try to use natural products.“
DIY Toothpaste Ingredients • 6 tbsp coconut oil • 6 tbsp baking soda • 25 drops essential oil (peppermint, eucalyptus, grapefruit, etc.) Directions 1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. 2. Also she showed us the student groups and tasks for the next class. When we were done eating we cleaned the dishes, the kitchen and the premises.
