HISTORY:
Blayton Close Estate in part of Northumberland Park Estates built and owned by homes for Haringey. It was built in the 1960’s when car dependency was quite high and every household had a garage where they would park. Moving forward towards more environmentaly friendly cities, the car is being replaced by public transport or cycling. Proposing a project which chnged the perseption of transport in environmental turms, gives ideas of a life with sustainable future.

ANALYSES:
There is a demand in the local area – amongst young people who own a bike, or wish to own a bike to learn how to repair and maintain their bicycle. This will indirectly improve their financial situation and give them the mobility to travel long distances and have the confidence to fix that bike if it breaks down whilst making those types of journeys/trips. For those who wish to take things further there may be a desire to go into further training as a bike mechanic and possibly seek employment in this industry – which is rapidly growing. In addition cycling is an engaging activity that appeals to many young people. There is a growing concern that cycling related crime is growing and having a negative impact on those who own bikes. Bike workshops can not only show individuals how to keep safe and protect their property, but also help the authorities identify those on the fringes of criminal activity who have an interest in bikes and encourage them to join a local project and positively engage in cycling.
