FIT PARTICIPAÇÕES Interior design project (corporate office) PERKINS + WILL BRASIL

The corporate office design was developed for the company FIT PARTICIPAÇÕES, active in the area of management consulting services in São Paulo. The 460m2 are divided into meeting rooms, staff kitchen, working areas, etc. Including a private office for each major partner. The main idea for these offices, as well as the area that encompasses the space of secretaries, pouch room and computer room was highlighting them as loose “boxes” in space. Among the finishing materials used the slatted wood paneling, along with white formica and various wallpapers stand out.

STUDENT HOUSING COMPLEX

Unifesp - São José dos Campos The proposal is located in the city of Sao José dos Campos, in Brazil, within the Limits of the Unifesp Campus. Its concept is based on a bar, dived in two parts facing each other and connected by elevated walkways. In this way, best insolation was achieved for all the dorms. The public space is organized within the two bars, in different levels, due to the sloping area of intervention. To bring rithym into the facade of the building, and promote interaction of residents and visitors out of community spaces, common rooms were placed within the sequence of apartments on both sidebars. Along with 250 living units, the complex hosts a Gym, Common Kitchen, Laundry Room, Café, Business Centre, Game Room , Theatre and private/group study rooms, located next to patios, within the different levels.

The vertical circulation cores aim at linking the different levels of the Project, ensuring the necessary emergency exits and providing access to residents with special needs to all floors. These elements, along the walkways that connect one side to the other, guarantee the projects visual identity. The complex structure is based on flat slabs in prestressed concrete; pillars are also in concrete. These combined with drywall structure inside the apartments; seek greater flexibility and thermal comfort. The external walls are paneled with cement slabs and yellow ACP, for the circulation core.

Parking structures are usually built as functional and bare as possible, resulting in a monotonous scary and dark atmosphere, from which we want to scape as soon as possible. Aiming at changing this perception of the places where we park our cars, the proposal takes a new a aproach towards the: “bilnd car boxes”, placing the pedestrian in the centre of the design and so turning the usually dreadfull act of walking within a parking garage into an experience for those who park and those who visit. In DRIVE, the roles usually taken by pedestrians and cars/bikes in a parking garage are switched: Cars, bikes and other means of transportation are brought up/down by multiplatform elevators, while pedestrians circulate trough the ascending promenades, enjoying the views of the Big Apple’s Skyline and High line Park.

This interior design concept was created for a newly wed young couple. The aim was sat at a modern and urban apartment, which would serve as a calm refuge on work days and as cool place to receive friends and family on the weekends for dinners and house parties.

LIVING ROOM / KITCHEN

The big living room, divided in 3 areas integrates the open kitchen. The wall behind the cabinet was removed, in order to bring more transparency to the room. When alone, the couple would dine in the kitchen, at the marble top table with design chairs. Both the kitchen top and tiles are in stailness steel, for a modern/ contemporary view and easy cleaning. To integrate the kitchen and dining area, a bech was placed with the dining table, in this way, guests are able to talk face to face with the cook at dinner parties. In the living room, the tv area, as well as the reading lounge, are divided by big cozy rugs. The Tv Rack is custom work from the architects design. The reading lounge is composed by two Diz, chairs, made by the brazilian designer SĂŠrgio Rodrigues and the shelves are made in white wood which is lacquered. The combination of the ceramic clading, immitating bricks (Pasinato Trendstone), along with the lead dors, the wood and the chrome objects are responsable for the urban feel of the apartment.

26

DINING ROOM / LOUNGE The lights value the design pieces and all combined, create a snug enviroment, easy to come back to at the end of the day to relax. At the Couple’s Suite, the brick cladding continues. The panel over the Siena (B&B Italia) bed is made of recycled wood with concrete shelves. Next to the bed, one finds a design rocking chair for reading. The Zigzag chair in the Bedroom is used as the bedside table, properly iluminated by the pendant light, hanging above it.

SCHINKELWETTBEWERB 2014: Spandau-Berlin.

CONCEPT The historic city center of Spandau (district near Berlin, Germany) is located at the confluence of rivers Spree and Havel. The aims of the Schinkelwettbewerb 2014 (urban planning competition) are reconnecting and reviving the isolated city center. The concept to enable the old city center reconnection and revival is based on a stripe concept. The city was divided according to stripes with different uses, which involve the old city core. Starting west is the new developments stripe, followed by the green Boulevard, the stripes that compose the historic city center, the river park, ending in the cultural gardens stripe, across the river.

The main idea for the design of this temporary theatre pavilion came from the Chinese puzzle Tangram, where several pieces cut out from a perfect square, are combined into different shapes. The structure of the pavilion resulted from the combination of the original pieces that compose the square: the rectangle, triangles and the square. These might be separated and repositioned to give form to a new, different pavilion elsewhere in the city, if wanted. The chosen configuration, revealed a 9 meters high spectacle room of 576 square meters. As well as the pavilion itself, that can me mounted, dismounted and remounted, the stage is also organized in modules, that can be combined in different ways, generating different types of stages (as shown in the cross sections), for several types of spectacles. Modules of the stage, which are not at use, can be placed throughout other areas of the city to create small outdoor stages or benches, spreading the theatre atmosphere to the whole city. These pieces may also be stored under the floor of the pavilion if wanted. The pieces of tangram can again be recognized in the facade, which is composed by copper panels, mostly perforated. These allow the building to shine at night and illuminate its surroundings.

THE MASTER BUILDER Stage Setting - Scenography Project The Master Builder (1982) belongs to the collection of most significant works by Henrik Ibsen. The main idea, which sustains the concept of the stage setting, is the journey from the real to the imaginary, more specifically the master builder’s inner world. The aim is to give the audience subtle hints about the transition into the master builder’s mind, to try to comprehend his delusion and internal conflicts. Strong characteristics interpreted by the reading of the play were incorporated within all the acts, and the foccus was set on the conflict between old and new, tension and ilusion. ACT 1 - THE OFFICE

To achieve this dream world atmosphere, the notion of reality was distorted. To do so, materials and elements were combined and arranged in an unusual way. The first act is located in the master builder’s office, which is recreated with both organized/neet and unkept tables, a book shelve, a central window and two side doors. The characteristic of this act is the contrast and fear of the new replacing the old.

ACT 2 - THE SALON

For the second act, the stage is rotated to create the salon. Flower petals are scattered on the floor (an element taken from the character Hilde) and chairs are hung upside down from the ceiling. The purpose here is to confuse the audience, to increase the tension, to suggest imminent danger and also create a variable playfield for actors to interact with the stage. The main element here, in the second moment of the play, becomes the bay window in the back. It serves as a real opening into the master builder’s mind, filled with memories and fears (the troll, the fire, the tower).

ACT 3 - THE TUNNEL

The final act is staged in the veranda. The thought here is to place some actors in the middle of the audience, to act as they are really looking from outside the house. The window takes on a more importante role in this final act. It serves as a portal to the past or a way out of his complicated mind. Behind the window is a tunnel structure in which the actor crawls. The climbing of the tower becomes a reversed action of descent. Everything becomes dark, a loud noise plays out and the play finishes. The end is open to interpretation.

The change between acts happens with the rotating stage. Act 1 and 3 happen in the same wall structure, while act 2 has an independent one. Everything is set up at the beginning and for the change of acts the lights come down, the curtains close and the stage is rotated.

KAYA

RAGNER

A technique less usual for theatre is the backside projection. It was decided to use this method, so that the actors wouldn’t get mixed up or blended by the projections that occur on the window during act 2. For act 3 we use the ordinary front projection for the tunnel, on the wall and floor. This atmosphere is dark and confusing, to keep the elements and actors indistinguishable.

Karl-Marx-Strasse in Berliner district Neukölln, former prosperous and popular shopping street, has lost its enchantment and become an abandoned area, filled with 1 euro cheap shops. The proposal focuses on bringing back a shopping experience, by using the great potential already present here to design a place, which will again attract a diversity of visitors, who once loved this area, bringing it back to life. The main concept for the revival of this area lies in the philosophy of the American urbanist, William H Whyte. According to him, „The street is the river of life for the city.“ So, like a river, Karl-Marx Strasse flows through its natural course until it finds a new path to follow, that finishes in an attractive bay, filled with new pleasant experiences. Here, a new complex is created, with a main/lively shopping street, that has a surprise at every corner. It leads its visitors to the main square, which overlooks the bay, a new recreational zone. Other uses are combined here to retail such as housing, business and culture. This is intended so that the complex has light and life 24/7. Once the project was finished, our study project group travelled to Los Angeles (USA) for a workshop with architecture and landscape students of Cal Poly University. At this workshop, many different views and ideas of what is street, how will the streets of tomorrow look and the thought of Los Angeles having a Street Like Karl-Marx Strasse were discussed.

GROUND FLOOR_0.00 The proposal for the new library building is found close to both business and historic centers of the city of Paranaguá. It is of easy access for those who live and the city and in other cities close, once the main bus and train stations are near to the building.

From the second floor on, the volumes unite, and the building becomes continuous. As the visitor goes up to upper floor, the visual of the Bay of Paranaguá, as well as the one from the main/ old train station.

The Edifice is organized in volumes: both side volumes host the book collections, while the main body of the library host’s areas for study and research.

To articulate the main core of the library building, mezzanine areas where created with the stairs, to allow visual interaction of the whole building and its users.

The auditorium is located in one of the side volumes, on the ground floor. It is intended to work at different hours than the library building, therefore having a separate access. Next to it, an outdoor area to host expositions and book fairs, allowing pedestrians to cross over from side to side and arrive at the Café.

Being Paranaguá a port city, it was decided to work with concrete structures (beams, columns and slabs).
