Best Independent Communications Research Agency – Europe Having reinvented itself this year, NIMIRUM is a company that has a heart for knowledge and a vision for experts offering guidance. We caught up with its owner Anja Mutschler to find out more… “Our heart beats for knowledge. Smartness. Independency.” This is the core of NIMIRUM’s success. It’s almost stubborn. “So, we're not doing everything a client asks
us for,” says Anja “but if they worked with us, they are always smarter.” This determination to be smarter, to rely on expert opinion, comes from a strong belief that experts aren’t always used as well as they could be.

Ultimately, NIMIRUM is a research agency. It has an expert community that can be called upon for anything from checking surveys for better marketing activities to full studies to support C-level for market entry situations. It could just be ‘renting’ an expert as a consultant. Mainly working for broadcast stations, big communications agencies or companies in the automotive and FMCG sector, NIMIRUM has an international scale with twothirds of their work taking place out of Germany. Core to the research is the expert community. They are passionate about NIMIRUM because they can act freely. “To conduct our research strictly independently is our core promise we give them,” says Anja. “They support us with business leads, blog posts and their ability to go the extra-mile when it is needed.” It’s a tremendous amount of earned loyalty towards a company that has undergone major reinvention over the past year. It seems to be paying off, however, as the response has been extremely positive from clients. ‘To treat our experts well also means to treat our clients well,” Anja admits. “We at NIMIRUM simply establish and moderate a dialogue between two parties who do not usually have much interaction, for example

“So, we're not doing everything a client asks us for,” says Anja “but if they worked with us, they are always smarter...” CEOs and scientists.” It seems like something of immense benefit to both parties and enforces the ethos of pushing knowledge to the forefront of the company. “Driven by our experience of work with freelance experts we are really good at accepting the individual style of each employee,” says Anja. She encourages questions about the company and takes care of them so they feel part of proceedings at all times. That is not to say that the experts have taken control, more so that the leadership style is more collaborative. “There is leadership because people want to know who they are working for: a person that takes responsibility and has a clear vision. A person that empowers them every day and shows them that it's great to be a part of NIMIRUM.”

Trends in Germany are slowly affecting how the industry works. Currently, there is a move from big to smart data, which means a shift from collecting a lot of information to only what is specifically relevant. Deep learning, too, is taking the research world by storm as its developing technology is more able to interpret big data and the trends from there. Anja notes, however, that “none of these trends is very specific to Germany, they are mostly influenced by US trends.”
NIMIRUM:
Looking forward then, NIMIRUM hopes to find a way to connect its experts to a project more easily. To this end, the intention is to build up a database where proven and trusted experts in a field have a proper digital touchpoint for NIMIRUM’s clients. This would then provide a digital workflow from offer to invoice, simplifying and clarifying the business entirely. Similarly, Anja hopes to mature the business care of being a special expert broker. She’s currently looking for an investor, as their business model has become more scalable for projects large and small.
It seems like after a successful relaunch, NIMIRUM is ready to take on anything. With exciting plans for expansion, there is a clear direction forward for the company laser-focused on the good distribution and use of knowledge from people who know what they’re talking about. Gaia House GbR: Wellness Retreat of the Year 2019 In recent years, wellness retreats have been become a popular choice for those who wish to escape to a tranquil resort. Having taken over Gaia three years ago with the dream of starting a hospitality business and not much more, Gaia Retreat has become known by clients as a “piece of heaven”, as well as a life changing experience. Recently, we caught up with founders, Eran Eisen and with Anat Feingold to discover just how they created such a luxurious retreat. “When people enter our establishment, they say it ‘feels like home’. As an international house in the heart of Germany, we have put in the time and effort to create this feeling throughout Gaia Retreat and we do hope that our guests feel that way.” This is the mission statement of Eran Eisen, co-founder and host at Gaia Retreat House. Despite the name and location finding its roots over 27 years ago - it used to operate exclusively as a seminar house - the deliberate move towards being a place to relax and rejuvenate is a relatively recent change.

Recently, Nord Hessen, the region where Gaia can be found, declared itself to be slowing down tourism, with the phrase ‘Zeit für sich – fit für alle(s)’. This translates to ‘Time for yourself – fit for all’. It shows that, somehow, Gaia found the right owners with the right attitude in the right place at the right time. Offering a wellness retreat which caters to all those who visit, Eran and Anat believe that wellness means finding a way to bring energy, love and light to all parts of body, soul and spirit in everyday life, as Anat explains. “There are many things that can support an individual to feel whole and fulfilled. We give the space and conditioning for wellness, which enables individuals to have their chance to recharge, reset their life decisions, and even discover a sort of natural sense of wellness.”

Business-wise, things continue to look positive for Gaia. The stereotype of German efficiency is perhaps well founded by the simple fact that the house is booked up almost a year in advance. The freedom granted by being able to predict the flow of business is not a luxury that all companies can claim to have. Looking ahead, there are plans to expand the services offered at Gaia Retreat, but part of the appeal of this particular establishment is the acceptance of the unknown. “We have no specific plans, but we do have a direction,” says Eran, “to turn Gaia into an international wellness centre.” A fitting goal. While this might seem like a pipe dream, the pieces are certainly in place for the team to achieve it. As it happens, they are planning new courses on wellness with yoga and meditations, and with a 200-hour anti-aging Yoga Teacher Training course in the offering. Best Personal Mobility Developer 2019 & Most Innovative Mobility Product: E-Rollator Born out of a desire to help his wife, Gerhard Wolf conceived of the EWO life-quality with the simple ambition of creating a machine where you could walk with the option of sitting or standing. Once completed, they decided to take their independence-giving aid and share it with the world. In less than two years, the company has become multi-awarding. We decided to profile them to find out more. The EWO wasn’t designed as a standard mobility scooter. It was designed as a revolution. It was in 2008 that Gerhard’s wife, Silke, was diagnosed with MS and could barely travel 500m. With decreasing mobility, she requested an aid to her walk that could grant her independence, and a better quality of life. This became the guiding force behind the company and has helped to make the project into the amazing success it is today. The revolution took the form of the stylish EWO, an E-Rollator. The decision to provide electric power was a simple one. Many people who have restricted mobility don’t leave the house because they’re not sure how easy it will be to get home. The beauty of the EWO is that when these people tire, they can sit down and still travel on. The EWO was designed to give independence to those who had lost it. Designed by Gerhard and his son Carsten, it was the result of a year of development and testing until everything worked out. Powered by a 350W engine, the EWO is capable of travelling for 20km, with a creeping of barely 1km an hour at a top speed of 6-10km an hour. The big, chunky
wheels make it just as useful offroad as it is on concrete, meaning it is a device that allows true independence. Where traditional mobility scooters would struggle, the EWO has a special hill assist option, meaning that steep slopes are no challenge. An essential part of the intensive testing process was that Silke Wolf abducted the EWO for test drives through the woods and roads. Far from being limited to 500m, she was fearless in her concerted efforts to travel further each time. The genius of the EWO lies in its ability to be used both as walking aid and as mobility scooter. With a series of small, easily accessible adjustments, it’s very easy to transform the EWO from a walking aid, pushed by a person’s body weight into its own self-powered vehicle. In this form, the rider has the choice of sitting or standing, giving as much flexibility as possible. A truly innovator in every sense of the word, the EWO is unique on the market. Where commercially available electric mobility scooters are limited either to walking aid or driving seated, the EWO combines both into one product. This has encouraged the fatherand-son team to register the pan-European patent license. The aim was simple: the construction
