Node creates urban rental apartment communities in creative capital cities around the world. The firm’s residences are currently in cities throughout North America and Europe with further expansion planned globally. As a company Node is fully integrated as an investor, developer and operator. Co-living is a concept of apartment community living where residents live in their own apartments, but community life is shared through communal areas and connecting with one another. At its core, Node’s global co-living concept is designed to bring a diverse group of creative, locally and globally-minded people together. The name Node means “a point of a connection”, which was the firm’s way to bring people and places together in a local and global rental community. The Node residences typically will consist of one, two and three-bedroom interior designed apartments with smart home devices, and a retro-style SMEG
fridge and mid-century furniture for residents to live in quality surroundings. Utilities are be bundled and super high speed wi-fi is included and ready on move in. Featuring a communal lounge and stunning rooftop terrace, with a design inspired by a traditional Irish pub or library, these residences are the perfect place for residents to work from home or socialise together. This is a residence that goes above and beyond expectations for a rental apartment, where you can move in with just a suitcase, avoid administrative hassles, furniture worries and instantly become part of a vibrant community. Unique to the property market, Node is a response to the trend in global urbanization and specific demand requirements from a new generation of globally and upwardly mobile renters. They are looking for more than
just a smart apartment – they want a ‘plug and play’ lifestyle solution – a unique interiordesigned ‘Instagrammable’ apartment, a compatible roommate match if needed, a vibrant and diverse community, and live in a central and hip urban neighbourhood – all at a costeffective price and at the push of a button. Also, they want to have a place to stay and an instant community in other cities – should they decide to move there for a job opportunity or work project. This is definitely a trend that is specific to Ireland and Dublin, where the rise of the tech community and a tech savvy global workforce is creating a massive need for alternative types of
housing to attract and retain the “smartest and brightest” people to Ireland from around the world. As such, the firm’s expansion into Ireland is timely and marks the beginning of an exciting new phase for Node. Overall, Node has a bright future ahead of it, with the firm seeing huge potential to scale to be the world’s first truly global co-living investor and operator. To achieve this and drive even greater success for itself and its community, over the coming years Node will continue to expand in Ireland, particularly in Dublin where there is an acute housing shortage and a need to accommodate millennial workers on a constrained budget.

Caroline talks us through these in detail and outlines how the industry is evolving and how her firm is adapting to ensure it remains competitive.
“Within the Irish hospitality market, more and more restaurants are opening in Dublin City centre making competition fierce. This includes a whole range of cuisines and diners are left with more choice than ever before. It means basically that we must keep our standards as high as possible and not give the diner a reason to not come back to our restaurant. Quality, service and consistency are key. The number of eateries opening up at a fast pace is not just in Dublin but also

The demand is there, however there are challenges to be faced. “The biggest key development in Ireland at present, which is also a key challenge, is the increase in VAT rate in Hospitality from 9% to 13.5%. There is a worry that it will slow down trade and was in my opinion not a fair move at all by our government, given the huge employment the sector provides. At Salamanca we will continue to focus on quality and excellence to ensure that we remain successful and are able to overcome this challenge in the future.”

, The Audiology Clinic
Leading Expert in Hearing Tinnitus & Balance 2019: DR Deepak Kumar The Audiology Clinic is a private independent diagnostic audiology practice. As part of our showcase of a selection of the winners from this year’s Irish Enterprise Awards we profile the clinic and explore the range of treatments it has to offer to its valued patients. The ear is the only organ in our body that is responsible for two functions - Hearing and Balance. Anatomy of the Inner ear house both senses hearing and balance. Therefore, when inner ear gets affected due to any reason either trauma, disease or ageing, it is possible that one’s both hearing and balance function can get affected or may be only hearing or only balance can get affected. Person with dizziness or balance disorder may or may not have hearing loss. It is important to remember that dizziness or vertigo is only a symptom and not a diagnosis. Formal vestibular assessment is required to know the possible causes of dizziness /vertigo which can help in treatment. Can you imagine your life without hearing the voice of your loved ones? No, it’s difficult for everyone. It is really annoying when you want to participate in a conversation but you are not able to hear others properly. It creates lack of confidence and one feels like to stay home rather than participating in any social gathering, a family function or in a party. That is the unfortunate reality of “Hearing loss”. A large number of populations with hearing difficulty don’t wear hearing aids. Some of them are not confident to use them, some feels they will become dependent on hearing aids. The reality is if a hearing aid is fitted appropriately after a proper assessment then it improves the hearing quality and it does not damage hearing. Studies show that the people who wear hearing aids are happier and more confident. Tinnitus is perception of sound when there is no external source. Tinnitus sound could be ringing, buzzing, clicking and it could be in a range from low to very high pitch and may be continuous to intermittent. The severity of perception of tinnitus can also range from
subtle to shattering. Hyperacusis is a disorder in which a person finds intolerance to sounds otherwise it seems normal to most people. People who suffer with hyperacusis may find normal environmental sounds too loud. There are various different treatment options available to manage tinnitus and hyperacusis. Complete medical and audiological assessments are required to know the best possible treatment option. Why choose audiology specialist? An Audiologist/Audiological Scientist is a healthcare professional that involves in assessment and management of people with hearing and balance problems. This includes patients of all ages from newborn babies to elderly people. The Audiology Clinic is a private independent audiology practice. At our clinic we facilitate prevention, assessment and management of patients suffering with hearing, tinnitus and balance (vertigo/dizziness) disorders. All the patients attending the audiology clinic are each seen by Doctor of Audiology Dr Deepak Kumar, Audiological Scientist. Deepak began his academic career by obtaining Bachelor Degree in Audiology from University of Mysore, India. He then went to the prestigious Institute of Laryngology and Otology at University College London where he obtained his Master Degree in Audiological Science and achieved distinction. Established in 2000, SFPC’s customer base extends now across many sectors including the industrial, energy, agricultural, recyclable and renewable sectors to name some. Consequently, it facilitates a diverse trade mix in the dry bulk, liquid bulk and break-bulk categories. Importantly the company not only facilitates the movement of trade within its port estate and harbour but is developing as a large-scale distribution and industrial hub. In recent years, the port has proven to be an attractive location for large scale infrastructural and industrial investment, for example 290m is projected to be invested by the Port and its customers for the period from 2015 to 2019. Over the years, SFPC has focused on meeting its clients’ needs to ensure its ongoing success. This focus combined with the firm’s natural sheltered deep-water estuary with depths in excess of 18meters plus a large landmass with multimodal connections has propelled the port to be the second biggest in
Ireland and growing quickly. As a Ten T port, SFPC supports large-scale capital-intensive industry and daily handle ships in excess of 200,000DWT. Looking ahead, SFPC has undertaken the preparation of a masterplan in order to promote and support the provision of port infrastructure and services in the Shannon Estuary over the next 30 years. It then needs to ensure that the Port of Foynes and Limerick Docks will be ready and able to handle larger trade volumes efficiently and competitively when the opportunities arise and in doing so realise the economic potential of the natural resource that is the Shannon Estuary. The masterplan is part of a bigger picture for the Shannon Estuary as SFPC develops its vision for the future and focusses on the positive promotion of the Port as a strategic economic driver for the Mid-West Region. Ultimately, the future looks bright for SFPC, with growth strong
and the firm seeking to enhance its solutions to better support its valued clients over the years to come. One area and project of huge interest to the company is the environment, and as such one of its core tenants is to manage and improve it and the future for all. The area of long-term renewables, combined with green energy, is a program that the firm will continue to work on and develop in the coming years, with SFPC seeking to make an immediate positive impact that will have a long-term impact on the future.

Unique to the market, Salmon Software is the only independent treasury management Software provider with over 30 years’ development in a single system. On the regulatory side, LIBOR, following the rate rigging scandals, is being discarded in favour of a new benchmark rate, SONIA (Sterling Overnight Interbank Average Rate). This will have a very significant impact on new loans and existing loans benchmarked against LIBOR, and as such Salmon Software will be seeking to enhance its offering even further to ensure it adapts around this development and others it is seeing in the market such as PSD2. Ultimately, Salmon Software’s mission is to become the world’s leading provider of treasury management systems, and this will remain as the firm’s ongoing focus as it then looks towards an exciting future that is filled with endless possibilities.

, Eishtec
Best Business Process Outsourcing Provider 2019 & Customer Experience Experts of the Year 2019 Eishtec is an award-winning business process outsourcing provider supporting a variety of high-profile national and international clients. To celebrate the firm’s win in this year’s Irish Enterprise Awards, we invited Eishtec CEO Heather Reynolds to tell us a bit more about the company and its service offering. When Eishtec was established in 2011, it did so with the very deliberate aim of disrupting the customer service industry. The three founders, which includes current CEO Heather Reynolds, were determined to challenge the poor reputation of the sector and the poor service delivery that exists across all sectors. Eight years later and the company has risen to become one of Ireland’s leading customer service providers with 1,500 employees across Ireland and the UK handling more than 10 million support and customer
contacts each year. Among its high-profile clients are T-Mobile, Orange, EE, BT, Trasna Health, Rebuilding Ireland, Vero Social, MIT Education and Qilta. Eishtec specialises in delivering customer journey solutions with a focus on two areas: the expertise of its people in the art of conversation and the company’s ability to be at the cutting edge of technological changes across a range of industry sectors. The company concentrates on inbound customer management service market, delivering service, technical support, retention and sales capabilities as well
“Here at Eishtec we are a creative, grown-up team who learn – fast! We have a soul and we like to create a friendly atmosphere at work – we smile, we laugh, we joke. We recognise that each staff member is an individual, so we build around and on their strengths to help them excel.”

as back office administration and churn analytics, as Heather highlights.
“At Eishtec, we help our clients to understand their customers and boost customer loyalty and growth. We blend the best people, process and technology and combine that with our unique culture of harnessing the power of the individual to deliver outstanding results for our clients.” She attributes the firm’s phenomenal growth to the fact that the company is driven by its dedication to excellence as well as its ability to be agile and innovative in order to enhance services and solutions to meet the ever-evolving needs of its clients.
“Since inception, Eishtec has achieved incredible growth, which is testament to our capability, integrity and innovative approach to our people, our customers and our clients. We remain firmly aligned to our belief in challenging the quality of service at every point. We are passionate about being the best and believe that excellent conversations require a combination
of empowered, knowledgeable agents, smart data insights and a desire to challenge and improve.” “This growth has helped us to achieve our mission: to be the best, and to excel in achieving our clients’ business outcomes through aligning our processes to deliver excellence in customer experience and the ability of our people to engage in conversations that always deliver value to customers. This all starts with hiring the best grown-up staff, ensuring they are equipped to do the job to the highest possible standards and providing them with the training and the freedom to interpret situations, think critically, develop solutions and make decisions.” This focus on being the best in the business and offering exceptional client-service has been central to Eishtec’s success over the years, and, as Heather showcases, also differentiates the firm from its competitors in the outsourcing industry.
“As a company, Eishtec was originally established to challenge both the poor reputation of the sector and the poor service

Fundamentally, it is this combination of client service and entrepreneurial culture that has helped Eishtec to grow into the leading outsourcing provider it is today, as Heather explains.
delivery that exists in all sectors. As such, we are committed to offering customer service that goes above and beyond our competitors. We believe that the customers require solutions to fit their needs: not the other way around. “When Eishtec partners with large consumer organisations, we are their brand and cater for all their technological and operational needs and offer seamless integration into existing systems. We hire only the best staff who are experts in their fields and are dedicated to the highest standards possible. Our world-class customer support team members have mastered the concept and execution of an exceptionally good customer experience and give our clients peace of mind that their customers are being looked after properly – ensuring more loyalty from them into the future. Our focus is about really resolving customer's problems in a way they feel valued.” By working with the best talent in the industry, Eishtec has been able to ensure clients receive exceptional client service at all times. Heather discusses the firm’s internal culture and how important this is to drive the company to even greater achievements in the future.
“Eishtec has an entrepreneurial and agile culture. We operate a strong ‘can-do’ attitude. While the company is underpinned by technology, it is the people who are at the heart of everything we do. We have invested significantly in ensuring the company has the right culture and that management and staff all feel they are on the same team. In a business where passion and attitude are reflected in the outcome of conversations,
we recognise and invest in the ambitions and empowerment of our people. Our people are listeners and empathisers, but they are also savvy interpreters and critical thinkers who can make decisions in order to ensure that the customer gets the best solution that fits their needs. Our culture instils in our staff that desire to listen to customers, and to hear what they are saying, to go that extra mile for them and know that we have made their day a little easier.” Heather says that the training and upskilling of staff is at the core of Eishtec’s culture as well as ensuring the wellbeing of all employees.
“We are a creative, grown-up team who learn – fast! We have a soul and we like to create a friendly atmosphere at work – we smile, we laugh, we joke. We recognise that each staff member is an individual, so we build on their strengths to help them excel. We are regularly involved in CSR and charitable activities in the communities in which we operate in. We have a strong, female-dominant leadership team, and we feel that feeds into the company’s overall culture.” However, she points out that, given the nature of Eishtec’s business, the company also has to reflect its clients’ cultures also. “Our staff are given the freedom – and the training - to assess situations and the customers’ needs, check all the critical information to solve their problems with a more personal touch, which sets us apart from our competitors and ensures that our clients feel supported at all times, and are always keen to work with us time and again.”

“At the heart of Eishtec is the ability to harmoniously bring together the many factors required to achieve excellence in customer engagements. We firmly believe in challenging the quality of service at every point. We are a world-class customer engagement partner for ambitious companies and work with them on a collaborative basis. Our expert team collaborate with our clients to ensure that Eishtec is aligning their business needs with the expectations of their customers." When Eishtec was established, it was primarily working in the telecoms field but its range of expertise has expanded greatly since then. Two of the areas in which the company has made recent significant advances are health and content moderation. Dundalk Institute of Technology: Enterprise and Innovation Centre of the Year 2019 The Regional Development Centre at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) is the driving force behind industry engagement in the North East of Ireland. Aidan Browne, Head of Innovation and Business Development at DkIT discusses how his team effectively builds links between enterprise and higher education to foster a culture of entrepreneurship and collaboration in the region. Established in 1989, the Regional Development Centre (RDC) was the first campus-based enterprise and innovation centre in Ireland. Since its inception, the centre has supported more than 1,600 entrepreneurs through a variety of supports aimed at helping them to grow and sustain their businesses. Aidan explores the range of services the centre has to offer and how these benefit its users.
“At the RDC we offer everything expected from a high-class enterprise and innovation centre including state of the art facilities, collaboration opportunities with researchers, access to expert networks, incubation
supports, business coaching and unrivalled access to DkIT’s impressive pool of graduate talent.” The centre is strategically located at the epicentre of the M1 economic corridor which connects Ireland’s two largest cities, Dublin and Belfast. With its excellent transport infrastructure, strong track record for industry and direct access to talent, the RDC’s location in the North East provides businesses with an attractive option to locate outside of the city environment, as Aidan highlights.
“By using our centre, companies can avoid some of the major hurdles associated with establishing a new business in a city, such
as the high cost of office space, grid-locked commutes and battles for talent. In 2017, we also became the first campus-based incubator to offer 1GB dedicated broadband speeds to client companies. This ensures that businesses have the same access to high-speed internet as our counterparts based in the capital.” At its core, the RDC aims to secure practical solutions to client requirements by leveraging the resources and expertise at DkIT and to compliment the support provided by the State agencies and the private sector, as Aidan explains.
“Thanks to our unique position, at RDC we can fast track access to resources at the Institute such as student placements, graduate employees, and access to collaborative research and consultancy. We are particularly focused on helping companies during the critical stage of starting up and growing a business by providing a informative and supportive environment for entrepreneurs particualrly around business development and funding acquisition from public and private sources. We also manage the New Frontiers Entrepreneur Development Programme in the region on behalf of state agency Enterprise Ireland." The RDC provides extensive coaching and mentoring supports to client companies. The centre has expertise in assisting enterprises on the development of core competencies such as idea evaluation, mastery of commercialisation and building a

“More than 190 companies have taken office space engaged in incubation support at our centre and many of those have tapped into our extensive research capability. We have had some major success stories, such as Irish telecoms company Digiweb which now employs more than 200 people internationally, Big Mountain Productions which is a major supplier in the both domestic and international television and film markets, IntactSoftware employing in excess of 150 people both locally and in strategic regions internationally and Hanley Energy which recently opened Ireland’s first Data Centre Research and Development Hub.” A more recent client success includes GPS performance monitoring and analysis company, STATSports Technologies whose client list includes UK, Spanish and Italian premier league soccer teams, international soccer and rugby teams. In 2015 the company opened its US headquarters and signed more than 20 teams across the NFL, NBA and MLS. STATSports was shortlisted for Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 International category and secured a £1 billion deal in 2018 with the US Soccer Federation. It recently announced plans to grow to 240 jobs in the next few years. In discussing what he feels makes a winning combination for a successful enterprise Aidan said:
“Personally, I think the really fundamental thing that makes successful entrepreneurs stand out from the many who are not, is a relentless focus on solving the customer’s problem. This stems from having a compelling idea and a robust plan to help you navigate and achieve this. Apart from that, it also has a combination of support, networks and market conditions that will make the difference – and this is where we come in.” Among the RDC’s current tenants includes Atlanta-based quality onshore testing
specialists, Celtic Testing Experts, whose expat founder, Noel Kierans selected DkIT as a location to launch the company’s European Headquarters tapping into our graduate pool to build their team here. Other tenants include DkIT spin-out from one of our research centres Nova Leah which is blazing a trail in the medical cybersecurity space. The company recently raised €2.5 million in Venture Capital funding and has been awarded significant multi-millioneuro investment from the Irish government backed Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund. The RDC also has an impressive track record supporting Foreign Direct Investment companies including Prometric, Yapstone, Kenexa, Diacuetics and Xerox, offering them an initial “soft landing” in the early stage setting up of their companies in Ireland, a project which Aidan is keen to discuss in more detail.
“I am pleased to report that we are enjoying increasing demand for our services as the business is seeing a geographical shift away from the larger cities. The RDC has developed a reputation for creativity and entrepreneurship expertise which is garnered from supporting enterprise and innovation for more than 30 years. Companies are attracted to the idea of joining our stellar alumni community of more than 1,600 entrepreneurs, a number which we plan to double in the next 5 years.” As part of its ongoing engagement with industry, the RDC also leverages the institute to develop bespoke training and continuing professional development opportunities to address skills needs in the region. This year, the centre helped leverage state funding to support the development of a suite of new programmes in high demand areas such as data analytics, digital marketing, 3D computer animation, food & agri-business, food supply chain operations, applied electrical engineering and sound design. Programmes are offered at certificate and diploma level and all courses are 90-100% funded through the state sponsored Springboard+ initiative. Programmes have attracted participation from a wide selection of organisations including Becton Dickinson, Cargotech Engineering Ireland, Combilift,
The RDC is also the key architect of the DkIT Corporate Partnership Programme, a key strategic initiative aimed at providing a structured framework for the Institute to work with high profile organisations across industry, community and professions in the region. To date DkIT has signed partnership agreements with STATSports, Creative Spark and ABP Food Group. Aidan explores the importance of these projects and how they benefit the centre and its collaborators.
“Here at the RDC, we believe these partnerships will ensure the continuing relevance of DkITs teaching, innovation and research while supporting the innovation and the development of some of the leading organisations in our region. We plan to announce some major new partnerships over the next few months.” Over the years, the work of the RDC has been recognised with in many national and international awards over recent years. In 2015, DkIT was identified by the OECD as a “highly performing institution in respect of entrepreneurial behaviours and mind-sets amongst staff and students”, with the work of the RDC contributing significantly to the award and last year the centre in conjunction with the School of Engineering and School of Business & Humanities was announced as national winner of the European Enterprise Promotion Awards. Aidan concludes by sharing his pride in the centre and this latest success.
“Ultimately, at the RDC we are thrilled to be named Enterprise and Innovation Centre of the Year 2019 by EU Business News. This latest recognition validates the work and commitment of the highly skilled people within the RDC and will undoubtedly continue to motivate us as we work towards achieving our ambitious targets for the enterprises in our region.”

, PCI College
PCI College: Best Mental Health & Wellbeing Education Provider 2019 PCI College is a leading provider of third-level educational and continuing professional development courses in the fields of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and Personal & Professional Development in mental health and wellbeing. As a college, it is committed to the provision of expert training and education in the field of mental health and wellbeing, in the private education sector, and tailor-made training to specialist groups. In 1991 PCI College’s pioneering co-founders Liam McCarthy (RIP) and Josephine Murphy, identifying a real need for the supportive inclusive training, founded the Personal Counselling Institute (now known as PCI College). This was at a time when mental health was not on the political, media or public agenda in Ireland. Liam and Josephine believed passionately in both personal development and high academic standards, both of which they combined with the foundation of the Personal Counselling Institute. The ground-breaking work pioneered by both Liam and Josephine helped begin the process to allow the counselling / psychotherapy profession to be seen on an equal footing along with any other helping profession.
"PCI College has 25 years of experience, and as such they are making their training they offer as accessible as possible."
As such, PCI College was set up with the intention of providing students with a broad education in counselling and psychotherapy. In 2001 the college became a collaborative partner of Middlesex University, who validate, quality assure and award the college’s BSc (Honours) Counselling & Psychotherapy, and all Postgraduate programmes.
Loss and Grief, and Substance Addiction, to name but a few. This expansive breadth of training, in conjunction with the provision of high quality, user-friendly teaching, is one of the key factors that each year continues to attract many students to join the growing PCI College family of qualified counsellors and of the psychotherapists.
Today, the college’s programmes are characterised by an integrative, person-centred, approach to counselling and psychotherapy training. Now drawing on over 25 years of experience, PCI College continues its Founders’ pioneering work by embracing the continued raising of academic standards in the context of proposed professional regulation, while still making training as accessible as possible; by then continuing to set a high standard of personal development in training; by raising the awareness around the huge range of the issues that people still struggle with in Ireland - depression, anxiety, suicide, addictions, relationship difficulties, etc; and by promoting an integrative approach within its field, and with its fellow professionals.
Students can rest assured that they are receiving exceptional quality teaching and qualifications, as the college’s BSc (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy is accredited by the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP). Seeking to enhance its service offering, the college is constantly offering new staff and collaborators the chance to provide their input and offer new insights into the teaching of its courses.
In recent years, PCI College has had an influx of young workers joining the administration side of the organisation. This has led to fresh and exciting ideas being introduced to the way the college is run on a daily basis. Communication amongst the various departments in PCI College also ensures that a unified experience is delivered to students and prospective applicants. Moving forward, the future will see PCI College introduce a variety of new Postgraduate courses that will continue to enable working professionals to specialise within a more refined area of the Counselling and Psychotherapy field. Furthermore, the college’s Professional Certificate CPD programme will expand, as it introduces more variety for helping professionals upskill, allowing it to remain at the forefront of the latest developments within the education sector.

We invited Eugene Gibbons to tell us more about the firm and the innovative range of services it provides. Established in 2001 in Ireland, during the middle of an IT recession, Stelfox was created by Lorraine Fitzpatrick, CEO, Keith Molony, who is now the Executive Chairman and Liam Laffey, Executive Director. Over the years the company has flourished, and it now operates across a number of European and global markets. , Irish Import Boom
Irish Import Boom Cools As British Builders Stagnate Irish construction firms’ surging demand for UK imports has eased, according to new data released by Fexco Corporate Payments. Ireland’s booming construction industry continues to ramp up imports from the UK but the pace of growth is easing, according to data published by the foreign exchange specialist Fexco Corporate Payments. The analysis, of more than 4,000 transactions made through Fexco Corporate Payments, shows that in the 12 months to February this year Irish building firms spent 17% more on UK goods and services than they did in the previous year. The number of transactions made increased by 7% and the average transaction size rose by 7.5%, from €4902 to €5269. The average purchase size is now two thirds bigger (66.8%) than the €3159 recorded in the 12 months prior to February 2017. While Irish builders continue to spend more, and more frequently, on imports from the UK, the spike in spending seen in the aftermath of the UK’s 2016 Brexit vote has eased. Total spending has risen by 128% in the past three years, but the 17% uptick recorded in the last year is less than a fifth of the scale
of the 95% jump seen between the twelve months prior to February 2017 and the following year. Though the import boom is cooling, the Irish construction industry remains bullish. A recent survey of Irish building firms by the building consultancy Aecom found more than three quarters expect their business to grow in 2019, and forecast that total output would increase by 20% over the year. By contrast the UK construction industry is stagnating. British government statistics show sector output rose by just 0.7% in 2018, the slowest pace for six years. Sentiment is fragile too, and in February a closely watched barometer of UK construction sentiment, the Purchasing Managers’ Index, plunged to its first contraction in almost a year. Speaking ahead of Thursday’s National Construction Summit in Dublin, David Lamb, head of dealing at Fexco Corporate Payments, commented: “The cooling of Irish builders’ appetite for UK imports is likely to be driven by two factors; a modest strengthening of sterling – which has risen by 4% against the Euro since the start
of 2019 – and a greater willingness to import materials from other EU countries. “If Britain leaves the EU without a trade deal, Irish imports of construction materials from the UK would be subject to WTO tariffs of up to 6%, so clearly it makes sense to investigate alternative supply chains. “However the UK’s proximity and the ease of buying from British suppliers means it remains the number one source of imports for Ireland’s booming construction industry. “Even with sterling’s rally this year, a Euro is still worth 11% more against the Pound than it was on the eve of the UK’s Brexit referendum, making British imports an attractive way to mitigate the cost pressure of rising wage bills at home. “With the UK Parliament taking a series of votes this week that will determine the course of Brexit, the exchange rate is likely to face extreme volatility, so Irish builders who import regularly from Britain should consider locking in the current favourable exchange rate by using a forward contract.”

, Harmonia
Magazine Publisher of the Year 2019: Harmonia Award winning multi-media publisher Harmonia has pioneered a unique learning and development digital magazine, Planet Woman, while being one of the few publishers to invest in traditional print magazines with a relaunch of Ireland’s bestselling women’s weekly, Woman’s Way. Having recognised Harmonia for these achievements in our 2019 Irish Enterprise Awards we profile this boutique publishing company to learn more about this trailblazing year. Let by former Dragon and renowned publisher and broadcaster Norah Casey, one of the key differences in Harmonia’s approach to digital magazine publishing is that rather than try to transform a print brand into an online brand, it developed Planet Woman as a sole digital offering. While others have reduced print magazine offerings, Harmonia invested in print, paper, pagination and design of its flagship women’s weekly – Woman’s Way.
the view that there are definitely differences between women and men which specifically hold women back in rising to the top,” says Norah. “To develop Planet Woman, we needed to know the facts first.” A focused Planet Woman team undertook a meta-analysis of all research deemed robust enough to be worthy of inclusion to identify what the provable differences are between women and men. Here’s what it uncovered.
What is Planet Woman? It is based on the simple yet powerful premise that all women deserve to be who they want to be. This is a space where women can learn how to overcome challenges through other women’s’ shared experiences.
If you asked any neuro scientists to tell the difference between the brain of a woman and a man they would find it hard to tell them apart.
Norah Casey explains: “For every woman who makes it to the top of her organisation or sphere of influence, there are many who don’t. Planet Woman is the key to unlocking women’s’ potential, to benefit them, their organisations, the economy and society.” Based on research-based evidence, Planet Woman has pioneered a multi-media learning approach targeting those career-limiting challenges. There aren’t many differences between women and men when it comes to career and success. The science points to only four critical differences but understanding these are crucial in helping women navigate through their career trajectory.
“I have worked in business for over twenty years and what I observed in real life and in encounters with thousands of women was

If you piled up all the articles, studies, opinion and observations about the difference it then would be miles high. But if you then analysed and decluttered the pile, separating out the conjecture and observations from the proven difference, in other words ‘the science,’ there are only four. But from those four differences flows all of symptoms and behaviours. For every woman who gets to the top there are another nine who don’t. Planet Woman holds the key to unlocking that potential, says Norah.
“That is our sole purpose. This is a space that speaks the language of women. The way to learn is to do. There are many things that will hold a woman back as she charts that course towards the corner office on the top floor but one of them shouldn’t be herself.” Earlier this year Norah also reimagined one of Ireland’s oldest magazines and as a result Woman’s Way is glossier and bigger than ever with an increased pagination and an innovative combination of paper weight and finish to showcase editorial and advertisements in a more beautiful environment. After 50 years and more serving Ireland’s homemakers, Woman’s Way has a brand-new website, womansway.ie, to complement the new look print edition.
Harmonia
The fab at 50 theme has extended to a brand new campaign #50over50 across digital, video and print, with some of Ireland’s amazing women and men proving that age doesn’t deter them from achievement. Having piloted a digital edition in 2018, Woman’s Way now offers a digital option for readers extending its reach to new readers. Woman’s Way remains every bit as relevant in 2019 as it did when first launched in March 1963. It sold over 1,000,000 copies in 2018 with an estimated 162,000 readers each week. The combined ABC reach of print, digital and social media reach of 115,000 daily makes Woman’s Way a compelling choice for multimedia campaigns targeting women.
Harmonia is confident in the magazine’s ability to speak to and for the real decision makers in Ireland and continues to raise the bar in terms of content and reach.
“As editor I am really close to the readers of Woman’s Way. They reach out to me and the team on a daily basis, engaging in interactive content. The proximity of the readers to the magazine is tremendously special and we want to continue to create that strong community feel. We love the new look and so do they”, commented Woman’s Way Editor, Áine Toner. Woman’s Way Publisher Norah Casey added: “In an age of swipe and scroll it is wonderful to be able to invest in look and feel. Print innovations are so important to the readership of Woman’s Way.
“Relevance for readers means advertisements are a valued part of the content. Highly engaged readers increase the effectiveness, relevance and targeting of advertisements nudging readers towards action and purchase. The Woman’s Way audience like print and they are receptive to products showcased in their favourite magazine,” she added. Woman’s Way is on sale every Monday and brand extensions include Cookbook, Mum of the Year, Children of the Year Awards and #50over50.
