01 Mototaxi Urbanism. Rio, Brasil. / UIA Competition Entry 2020 Team : Daniel Kaldas, Adham Mohamed And Abdelaziz Elgendy. Master Plan / Urban Design / Architectural Design / Research.

While reading on Rio de Janeiro and the area of Complexo da Maré, the public transportation services using motorcycles, the so-called mototaxis caught our attention for bridging the gap between the existing legal infrastructure and means of transportation, and the somehow inaccessible areas inside the favelas. Mototaxi Urbanism engages in utilizing, remodeling and reprogramming; it attempts to enlarge and upscale activities that can be associated with and actually found at and in the vicinity of the various mototaxis stops. Missing functions are introduced in compact multifunctional structures that enlarge the mototaxi stops with mechanic and tuning shops, funk carioca cafés and other related use in their ground floors, and activities perched on top, conceived as independent structures, on existing rooftops or inside abandoned warehouses, providing access through a system of wide ramps and stairs, upgrading current pedestrian bridges at Avenida Brasil to moto-bridges serving as well the crossing by mototaxi. The proposed interventions at and around the mototaxi stops are divided into two main types. There are the multifunctional passage buildings at prime locations with on a daily basis large numbers of people passing by and through, set as stacked public spaces allowing for different activities, programmatically integrating with the existing political observatories and cultural non-governmental institutions at Maré. The second building type offers specific uses to the area. 4

02 Residential Complex. Fellbach, Germany with WSA Architekten / 1st Prize Team : Jörg Weinbrenner, Anthi Kanelli And Daniel Kaldas Master Plan / Architectural Design / Architectural Details.

Extract from the jury’s assessment. The design impresses with its clear volume distribution in urban space. An open block edge is formulated through its interplay of existing and new buildings. This blends in well with the surrounding area and creates an attractive, self-confident building ensemble with well-placed spatial connection points. The architectural form of the presented draft seems appropriate to the task, especially with regard to the urban planning aspects.

For being socially segregated for 80 years, this project explores the possibilities of bringing back the Lepers community back into the social realm in Abo Zaabal, where it is located. The proposal introduces a new urban community, proximate to the Leper Colony, where in the proposed new urban tissue, The colony is introduced in a position of power in the new settlement, offering to the urban dwellers space for interaction and medical hospitality . The main strategy of the proposal is based on a research process that identifies the Maw’af ( informal Micro-bus Stop ) as a powerful urban catalyst in Cairo, and specifically in the studied area from Abo Zaabal.

05 Living +

Architectural Design.

A mixed-use residential complex located in the Nordbahnhof district, Stuttgart. The building aims to create a proximity between residents, a market place, a bar and an exhibition space for creative practices. The design of the architectural complex is an exploration for a new way of living, where spaces are mainly created by subtracting volumes out of a solid mass, offering more defined spaces to dwell and compacting all secondary uses in carved volumes out of the space boundaries created for dwelling. The complex has three main subtracted courtyards which serve as daylight source for the residential units within the complex. Those three courtyards extend to the facades to create pockets used as communal spaces for the residents cutting through the main corridors and the domestic units.

11 The Rituals Of The Unfolds / A Pilgrimage Of One. Visual Design + Spacial Exploration.

The art work inspired from techniques from Medieval architectural representation in search of alternatives that integrate lost qualities back into the modern architectural image. Drawing upon Le Corbusier’s Promenade Architecturale, it unfolds the complexity of the architectural experience of La Tourette through a sequence that represents a continuously evolving visual experience.

12 3031 Art , Taking Over Z. Art Exhibition.

Taking Over Z is a series of photographs taken on Egyptian highways and roads. A documentation of the city expansion through the Z axis, taking over vertical spaces that bridge between the existing city of Cairo and the new urban expansions of the city. The photographs are overlapped into a digital collage that creates an imaginary and exaggerated form of vertical space invasion. An expression of a surreal form of a layered city, that started to seem less surreal.
