LETTER EDITOR of the
Hey, Phoenixes!
We may be well into summer, but the service never stops! Welcome to our first Division Newsletter of the 2014-2015 year. News from the July DCM: Key Club International Dues have gone up by $.50, so be aware of the change; Early-Bird Dues are Nov. 1. Our RTC theme is: “Throwback to the 90’s!” RTC money and rosters will be submitted at the Sept. DCM (9/9, @ A-TECH). Find chaperones! We’ll be having FRS preps during the weekends following RTC. Lastly, the DCON15 logo has been chosen, and it’s super cute! Celebrating 100 years of Kiwanis. Applications for the fourth DLT position, Service EXPO Coordinator will be up soon. (This newsletter’s design was inspired by A-TECH’s, Liberty’s, and Valley’s aesthetics. Check ’em out!)

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR Dear Kiwanis Family, My name is Renato Acob and I will be serving as this year’s 2014-2015 Lieutenant Governor. I attend Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy and currently a junior. I am President for my home club. Freshman year, I was alone, being the one of three from my middle school attending VTCTA. By being an outcast I joined Key Club, in hopes of not being excluded. Born and raised in Wailuku, Hawaii, I was raised by a single mother. I cherish every moment I have with all my Ohana and friends. I am full Filipino and seventeen years old. I believe that Key Club is more than an organization, it is my family. I I have served in a plethora of leadership positions, ranging from Secretary all the way to president. Music is my passion, it allows me to express myself, I love to sing and play ukulele. Despite my flaws I’m efficient and well-rounded. As LTG for the 2014-2015 term, I plan to lead Division 28 North to new heights by creating more social events, finding more fundraising opportunities, and enhancing division communication. I want to create more social events such as dances, movie nights, etc. to allow key clubber to bond and become a closer Ohana. By doing this we strengthen the key club passion and as well as make new friends. Finding fundraisers can be a pain, but we will persevere! Fundraisers are KEY when it comes to Regional Training Conference, Fall Rally etc. together I will guide you though and set new goals. Lastly, Communication is KEY. Strong Communication= Strong Division, I want to provide everyone an opportunity to attend Division Council Meetings. My goal is to implement a “video conference” that will allow easy access to all key clubs and advisors. I’m still in awe that I am going to serve Division 28 North during the next term! As Lieutenant Governor, I will provide, I will Strive, I will Inspire, I will Support. “Ohana is family, and family means nobody gets left behind.”—Lilo Pelekai. If you need anything at all please don’t hesitate to contact me.
In service,
Lieutenant Governor
Rey-Rey Acob (VTCTA)

Anyways, yet another fantastic year of Key Club approaches! I look forward to meeting all of you, don't worry and don't be shy! Come and approach me! Maybe we can get a coffee or some boba. However, I highly recommend you lovelies go to RTC, FRS, Key Leader, and DCON. All those events, service, and even socials with your Key Clubs are truly life changing experiences! Division ASSISTANT Aloha! My name is Jazlynn Badua, and I am proud to introduce myself as Division 28 North's new Key Club DLT Executive Assistant! I remember joining Key Club in freshman year, shy and awkward. After joining, I gained so much confidence and energy. Now, memories of my extended Ohana and I providing services to others is just one of the many reasons why I love Key Club. Not only can I have fun with my friends, but I'm giving back to the community for the better as well. I'm always hyped, and ready to serve! I'm also excited to work with the LTG and my DLT. By doing so, I hope to see great success. I will always ensure to keep spirited no matter what! I can't wait to see what we can all achieve as flaming Phoenixes during 2014-2015!

Division NEWS
EDITOR
Greetings! I’m Daniel Lang, your 2014-2015 Division News/Tech Editor of 28 North! I run this newsletter (and maybe a website, too). Any of you could be featured — just write articles for your Club Editor! I choose some to send to CNH and some to feature here. Be sure to finish by the 10th! As for my experience, I major in Graphic Design over at A-TECH, served as their Bulletin Editor last year, and even attended Key Leader 2013 with Rey-Rey and Tommy! To my Editors reading, I co-presented with Karl Catarata at OTC14, and I won’t hesitate to answer any questions you might have! I love visiting other schools and meeting new people, so introduce yourself to me! (Seriously. We can even take a selfie, if you’d like.) For countless photos and stories, I’m also on Facebook and Tumblr (superdoodles.tumblr.com/ stories). Can’t wait to see you! Division News Editor

Spotlight on Service, July 2014:
Go Outdoors
As so many say, summer is an incredible time to serve others! For the month of July, our focus is “Go Outdoors.” So get on some sunscreen, grab a bottle of water, and get out there into the community!
“The CNH Spotlight on Service Program was created by the Service Projects Committee to promote International and District initiatives as well as to encourage active participation with organizations/initiatives. The Service Projects Committee will provide monthly guides that include tips and ideas on how clubs can complete the monthly service initiatives. Check out the monthly guides below to get some ideas for your club's service projects. The program also gives clubs the opportunity to showcase their unique service projects that positively impacts their home, school, and community. The Spotlight on Service Program would like to receive project submissions from the District to showcase projects from the previous month in the District Newsletter. Receive recognition and inspire someone with your creative project ideas. Clubs must submit their project through an electronic form. This form is very easy to complete and is due by the 5th of each month, for the previous month. (The deadline for September project submission is October 5th.)” For more info and submissions, please visit the CNH CyberKey: http://cnhkeyclub.org/projects/spotlightonservice/
Upcoming Event:
Key Leader 2015 “I was so happy learning that there would be another Key Leader in Las Vegas! That wonderful announcement was made during the Joint DCM this July, and I almost jumped up from where I was sitting because I was so excited. I learned so much from Key Leader last year. Of all those lessons, though, one really stuck out: I learned I was capable of more than I thought. Before Key Leader, I had little hope that I would be able to make a difference in my term as Vice President. Over the course of Key Leader, I realized otherwise. Each day in camp, we had many lectures, activities, and personal reflection moments that changed my way of thinking drastically. I realized I needed to stop listening to all the doubts inside me and to not be afraid to take a leap of faith once in a while. Because of all I learned, I came back to school with a fresh way of seeing the world around me, as well as myself! I hope many people sign-up for Key Leader this year. The lessons I've learned, the way I've grown, the friends I've made, and the memories I formed will hold a special place in my heart. Everyone who goes will not regret the experience. I want people to have the chances I've had. Without Key Leader, I would not have had the guts to do some things I have done this year, such as running for my club's Presidency – which I have now won. If you can, go to Key Leader! It'll be the experience of a lifetime!” The upcoming Kiwanis Key Leader for the Las Vegas area is currently being scheduled for Spring 2015.
