A Letter from the Editor, Daniel Lang

Hey A-Tech, A month has gone by since my first newsletter, and it seems you guys really liked it! I did take into account your suggestions, so there have been a few adjustments (and corrections). As the newsletter is built to be viewed on both atechkeyclub.weebly.com and issuu.com, some pictures were replaced or resized to reduce the grainier look. This month, I’ve also attempted to bring the newsletter into more uniformity. New features include a Calendar and an Upcoming Events page! Be sure to check those for service events, socials, meetings and more! Don’t forget: Any of you can send in articles! And lastly, we have a new board member: Eric Munoz! Anyway, enjoy the newsletter!

July 2013’s Joint DCM

A Divisional Council Meeting, or DCM, is an event where the LTG can personally meet with a division’s clubs all in one place. The summer (such as July and sometimes August) allows for much larger DCM’s, in this case featuring three divisions at once. In addition to the latest Region 5 news, there were ice-breakers and a presentation by Circle K, too!

…featuring Divisions 28N, 28S, and 28W!

“On July 17, 2013, I was able to attend the joint DCM with all three divisions (D28N, D28S, and D28W)! It was really great to see many dedicated members from all across the valley! The three LTGs: Christopher Bui, Jerry Thomas, and RJ Immerman all lead the meeting. The three of them updated us with a change in the Key Club bylaws and also updated us what was going on internationally. According to Jerry they are trying to make awards offered at DCON more accessible to members other than just the Sandy Nininger Award. (All you dedicated members should apply!) Thereafter, we were informed about how service is year-round! So get out there and serve your community phoenixes even if it is just for an hour or so. Also, if you ever have any service ideas please feel free to let one of our friendly officers know about it because we would love to hear your ideas. We also briefly went over RTC. It is on October 12, 2013 at CENTENNIAL HIGH SCHOOL! The theme is Supernatural!! Get your creative juices flowing and think of awesome ideas to lead our club to success and win that spirit stick! Other than that, we got the chance to see the fantastic Mr. Jarren Santos. It was a great summer DCM. Other than that, if ever you wish to attend a DCM please contact me!” -

Halley Darwin (President)

A-Tech at a Kiwanis Meeting

“The Kiwanis Meeting was really different from what I was expecting. I thought we were going to be just standing lecture hall or a sort like that. Also, the event being very early in the morning discouraged me to go. Little did I know the meeting was just like a Key Club meeting or even more enjoyable! Just like all meetings, there were some dull moments; nonetheless I would like to go again sometime in the near future. Although the Kiwanis meeting discussed some serious stuff, the mood was more enjoyable and light-hearted. We started out by eating a breakfast of our choice whether it was pancakes, waffles, or French toast. The people who are in Kiwanis are truly kind and inspiring. We got to meet different members at the Kiwanis meeting and they were all approaching. They appreciated that we took the time to attend the meeting. The Kiwanis President, Bill, discussed various service events, and they had Happy/Sad Change also! Some of the events included fireworks booths, and then we had a guess speaker from Veterans Village. The Happy/Sad Change was my favorite part, personally, because of the way the adults told their stories and how their days were hilarious and interesting! They talked about everyday life, and they still sounded childish at heart (which was nice to hear). In the end, it was a lot of fun, and we got to get business cards for future service events. It was a great experience because it really changed my mind on Kiwanis meetings. - Hung Le (VP of Membership)
