QAZAQ AQBAS ASSOCIATION
KAZAKHSTAN
The Qazaq Aqbas Association was established in 2012, after the reformation of livestock law in Kazakhstan. The main activity of The Qazaq Aqbas Breed Association is representing members interests, marketing, presenting in cattle shows along with organizing seminars and training.
The Qazaq Aqbas cattle breed was developed in Kazakhstan during the period of 1930 -1950. The breed originates from Hereford bulls imported from the UK and Uruguay crossed with the local aboriginal Kazakh and Kalmyk cattle. The breed resembles the Hereford in color and power balanced with the ability to thrive in low management, harsh weather Kazakhstan conditions.
Together with 7 progressive breeders we have invested in and installed 7 Vytelle Feed Efficiency sites to measure and genetically select for feed efficiency. Our objectives are to differentiate and market the breed globally for its ability to provide a sustainable, economically viable, high-quality, great tasting product that brings profit to our farmers for generations to come.
Today, the association has a membership of over 600 members and more that 10,000 breeders. The total quantity of breeding stock has grown from 75,000 in 2010 to over 485,000 in 2022.

Contact Details
Koos Kooy, Director
Centre (LABEC) is located in the KwaZulu Natal Province, near the town MooiRiver in South Africa. LABEC is owned and operated by Livestock Alliance (Pty) Ltd and was established in March 2020. LABEC is commercially operated and aims to establish close collaboration with the various role players in the beef value chain i.e., Breed Societies, Seedstock Producers (Stud Breeders), Commercial Beef Farmers and Nutritional Institutions, to make improvements in the beef value chain. The technology used by LABEC is supplied and supported by Vytelle, world leaders in feed efficiency measurement and improvement in beef cattle.
The aim of the test station is to research or test various aspects that may have an impact on the beef value chain, for example:
• Beef genetics, evaluating feed efficiency by measuring RFI (Residual Feed Intake or Net Feed Intake), ADG and F:G ratios.
• Beef genetics on meat quality.
• Optimal nutritional solutions for different beef breeds, genders, age, etc.
• New nutritional concepts, for example alternatives to growth promoters and antibiotics, enzymes, type of raw materials, optimal levels of energy and protein, fibre, etc.
• Optimal beef yield, i.e., dress percentages, fat deposition and meat quality.

Oggendstond Simmentaler Stud was established in the year 2015. Our farm, Misty Heights on which the Simmentalers’ roam is situated 1650 to 1720 meters above sea level, in the Giants Castle region, near the town MooiRiver in the KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa. This mountainous region at the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains, is a predominantly sour veld area with harsh cold and windy winters with lush summer natural pastures. At Oggendstond Simmentalers, we do not guess, but follow an extensive performance testing regime as prescribed by Breedplan, currently holding a 4 Star Breedplan rating. The main breeding objectives are:
1. Fertility
2. Calving ease
3. Feed efficiency measured as RFI
4. A good balance between growth and mature cow weight
5. Meat quality
6. Polled genetics
Excel is a young Polled bull with tremendous potential, we welcomed his first calves in 2022. In the South African Simmentaler Breedplan EBV database, he is above breed average for calving ease, in the top 1% of the breed for growth and feed efficiency and in the top 10% for fertility. His carcass yield traits are exceptional.
With our slogan “Genetics for Progress” we supply purpose driven bulls to our customers.

We believe that the selection and maintenance of more efficient animals will be essential to guarantee a prosperous future, ensuring an efficient use of our precious feed, which are increasingly scarce and expensive.
Our selection scheme is governed by the basic principles of any sustainable herd – unassisted calving, docile animals, explosive growth until puberty enabling, thus an early start of a reproductive performance for females and excels in carcass and meat traits that favors eating quality attributes. We aim to produce moderate framed animals, in particular longevity in cows producing each year a healthy and heavy calf at weaning.
AGRIANGUS offers annually in its Annual Sale, a selection of animals that are the result of a dedicated and careful breeding scheme, in which are used the most advanced methods, technologies and genetics available globally.
We take this opportunity to thank all customers who continue to invest and trust in our selection program, it is for them that we are committed to improve: delivery, after delivery.

We have worked hard to ensure our cattle are at the top of the Angus breed for balanced production, maternal efficiency and elite carcase traits. The next step is for us to identify cattle that shift the bell curve on Net Feed Intake (NFI). We have a good handle on feed: grain (conversion efficiency) and growth, however, the Vytelle system is critical to help us better understand differences in animals genotypes on how they use energy for both maintenance and production traits. Our Vytelle system also allows us to weigh animals on a daily basis as their drink, intakes we also get weight performance in real time. The good news for beef farmers is selection for feed efficiency aligns with on-farm productivity and also helps in the selection for animals with a lower carbon footprint (lower emissions intensity).

West Virginia University’s Reymann Memorial Farms is home to the Wardensville Bull Test, a progressive performance evaluation program developing and evaluating over 200 spring born bulls annually for some of the Mid-Atlantic regions most progressive Seedstock breeders. Additional performance testing of 150 fall born bulls and 40 fall born heifers is conducted throughout the summer. The goals of these performance testing programs are to allow consignors and buyers to form relationships that share common targets and build marketing and production goals that generate and sustain profitability. As the first bull evaluation program in the United States to measure individual feed intake (2003-2004), utilize RFI in the selection index (2005) and sell animals with Vytelle’s generated EPD’s for DMI and RFI (20152016) the Reymann Memorial Farm Central Test and Wardensville Bull Test has always been focused on identifying genetically superior animals that will improve the bottom line of commercial cattlemen throughout the United States. The program is sponsored by the West Virginia Cattlemen’s Association, WVU Extension Service and the WVU Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Design.

“IF
YOU CAN’T MEASURE IT, YOU CAN’T IMPROVE IT.”
If you can’t measure something and track its progress, you cannot get better at it. For example, it is nearly impossible to lose weight without occasionally stepping on a scale to measure your results. If you do not weigh yourself, you have no idea if your program is successful or not. Another example is trying to improve your golf game but never keeping score. You simply do not know if you are getting better or not. Makes sense, right?
Measurement = Motivation
