// How have I changed as an individual?

I am now driven and focused on my aspirations and future ambitions.

Increased confidence and social skills. I am more responsible with my money; commuting is expensive! Improved motivation to be the best person I can be. I have become patient.

I am not afraid of failing, and failing again before I reach a great outcome. I have had to find the right balance between work and play.

I’ve realised whilst ever I wake up at 6am, commute to uni and back, I will As a person I am stronger willed. never stop moaning. However, I’ve learnt not to be tired on 5 hours sleep a night. Bonus. I enjoy learning.

I have become more organised with My Mac Book is my new favourite my day to day life, due to being super accessory. time efficient at college. I’ve become more eager to watch the news and read the newspaper, opposed to hearing current affairs through conversation.

Above all, I have learnt not to be afraid of change and of hard work. I have realised it all pays off in the end. And, most importantly, I now believe in myself again.

Stronger fine artist than designer.

Confident with design, the process and the Organised and efficient with working under pressure and to deadlines. contextual background

Perfectionist. Better thinker; conceptual and design ideas. Unaware of the importance of design blogs and keeping up to date with current affairs. Knowledgeable with designers, design studios and blogs. Closed-minded to design aesthetics & styles. Confident of a design path I’d like to aspire towards. Organised. Motivated.

Outspoken.

More of an independent worker, than a team player.

Opinionated. Strong-minded.

Unsure of route to take within graphic design.

Motivated. Driven.

Confident with design software and print processes.

Contextualizing design theory into practice.

Pantone colour matching. Editorial & Publication design.

The history of Graphic Design and the importance of the Bauhaus, modernism, designers such as Walter Gropius and the postmodern world of design as a contrast.

Time keeping is the key to successfully complete a brief to a deadline. Organisation allows for effective

allocation for various briefs and tasks The importance of basic design principles which need to be carried out each day. being applied to design. The principles are as follows: Making to-do lists on a daily basis with Typography & Type Anatomy. Layout & grid structure.

‘fun’ activities helps the day run smoothly allowing for a treat before the next project.

Colour theory.

Team work and delegation is very important and in group briefs. This was learnt through 3 week briefs, allowing for the team to achieve and deliver great results. This will continue to develop and will remain vital for industry.

Application of colour.

The balance of work and play.

Fibonacci & cannons.

Developing software skills with the Adobe suite have enhanced my designing and allowed me to complete work to a high Standard. Since the beginning of the course I have learnt the importance of keeping up to date with design blogs, current affairs, news and design trends, as we are partly persuaded by this when we design. I have learnt I am very driven by politics. Attending lectures and guest talks has been a great insight into the industry and the ideas behind such great design work. I plan on seeking more to visit in my own time. Being a student rep has given me confidence, responsibility and, a role within the institution.

I would like to further apply current affairs such as politics into my briefs, as this is a topic which drives me. Further contextual knowledge which can be applied through design practice and synthesis, by researching the topic at hand. “Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Do not bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.

Faulkner

Improve design skills by not being afraid to fail. Constantly improve design software skills to improve overall skill set and design aesthetic. Speed up design process and practical elements, to leave time to review and alter. Team work, confidence and public speaking skills to be developed through group work, placements and live briefs. Improve confidence and network by seeking out and applying for a placement or internship at a design studio.

// How have I changed a designer? I have focus on the route I’d like to take within design. I have realised I am more of a digital designer than a printing based designer. I feel passionate about design. Fine Art has taken a backseat, and has become meaningless in comparison to Graphic Design. I am confident with software. I am able to think of ideas, and concepts, thinking outside the box.

I feel more confident talking about designers, work and the design industry, due to the insight given. I have become driven by design, and keep active as a designer in my spare time with designing personal work, and for clients based in Doncaster.

By being more attentive with design books, lectures, online blogs and design studios, I have been inspired as a designer. // BLOGS: Victoria Design Blog Behance Designspiration Smashing Magazine Editorial Design Served Pinterest Jacket Mechanical MrMcqueen The Dieline Ambalay Creative Review Design Week Inspire Design Blog Instagram Owt Creative Blog Brand New Branding Indentity Design Vigor Branding Blog Mag Creative Shillington Design Justified Mag Nicanel Graphic Porn

// Politics: The 21st century has changed, governed and dictated society as a whole today, through leadership, and extreme changes in political views. Leadership has always been a controversial topic due to personal preferences on political parties, and their appropriate actions. Political issues are never usually one sided causing debate and sometimes even anger; however sometimes passion, anger, and drive is what’s needed to make a change to those things that are seen as unfair and flawed.

// Society: We live in a society today where everything is controlled and manipulated by the government. Even though a ‘Big Brother’ system has been put in place in to monitor our every move, this safe guards us from those who do wrong, and to protect the likes of riots, crimes, fights and theft. This is the government’s way to control our actions without directly telling us what to do. This can be looked upon in a negative light, however without such close communities, and ‘rules’, it gives us the right to live peacefully and safely, not just for the present citizens, but also for the next generation and the future of the country and the world.

// Culture:

// History:

By bringing in new cultures and ethnicities to the UK, it has increased our knowledge on different ethics, ways of life, religion, food, and fashions, creating a more diverse society. Due to this a more diverse way of living has been introduced, with multilingual citizens, multi-cultural restaurants, shops and places of worship, creating a positive, vibrant and exciting view on life

History is a permanent reminder of concise stories, which marks a point of time where something so significant happened it has made a lasting impression or helped shape the future. It’s reliable, unchangeable and is dependable with proven facts and figures. There is clarity and truth within the evidence given; yet still leaves room for new evidence to be uncovered. .

// After the first year of the BAGD Remember the Fibonacci sequence. course at LCA, I have noted the best advice for myself, and other designers, Know the difference between on how to be the best designer you can readability and legibility. possibly be. Less is more.

CMYK? Or, RGB?

Read the brief.

Try not to use more than 3 different typefaces.

Learn the difference between a typeface and a font.

Avoid using more than 3 colours.

Know your paper & page sizes. The beauty of a grid becomes apparent over a series of spreads.

Use tints and shades instead. Stick to the rules, or make your own. Knowledge on colour theory is vital.

The obvious Is better than that which Fail, fail and fail again. must be sought.

Think over an idea, or concept before any design work takes place. Research is crucial to success. Stay organised and learn to be a good time keeper.

Above all, I’ve learnt if you dedicate your life to Graphic Design, then working hard will pay off, and great things will come your way. // I love being on this course. // And, I love being a designer.
