FRESH IDEAS AND PERSPECTIVES Many local people and companies had a hand in making the Idea House a reality. Here are just a few of the ideas and resources that made the project a reality.

The new ‘old’ Wide planks and large tiles are a new flooring trend, says Mike Younts of Southern Carpet & Interiors in Fayetteville. The Idea House uses 20-by-20 tiles and 900 square feet of Armstrong’s Rustic Accents Acacia wood, one of the company’s “hand-scraped” hardwoods hammered, chiseled or sculpted to create the natural indentations and a worn appearance. “Everything’s getting bigger,” Younts said. “Wider and bigger.” Other types of flooring, tile and pavers used: % Mombasa granite in the kitchen and nook. Carpet One Floor & Home. % Mohawk Unity carpet in Radiance throughout the home. Southern Carpet & Interiors of Fayetteville Inc. % Marazzi Archeology 12by-24 kitchen tile in Chacco Canyon. Southern Carpet & Interiors of Fayetteville Inc.

Vintage vibe Ashley Furniture contributed casual pieces for staging the bedroom, dining room, study, living room and kitchen. Bedroom: Porter 8-piece bedroom set, with king storage bed, dresser, mirror, two nightstands and media chest, $3,049; iAshley Gel king mattress, $1,899; two Pia linen accent chairs, $900. Dining room: Porter dining table with Burkesville slipcover chairs and server, $2,100. Study: Porter leg desk, chair and bookshelves, $1,900. Living room: Two Candlewick linen sofas, two chairs, two ottomans, two end tables and one cocktail table, $3,279. Kitchen: Manadell table, bench and chairs, $1,000.

A funky twist C.J. Malson of C.J. Malson Interior Design has added her own funky twist to Fayetteville’s first Idea House, including an orange accent dining room with custom trim and “out there” light fixtures. She has years of design and staging experience in Fayetteville, where she’s lived for 16 years with her children

and husband, an Army major and lawyer on Fort Bragg. The Idea House, a modern Craftsman-style home, was designed with earth tones that are “bumped up a notch.” Doors were stained to match the rustic wood flooring. Malson added warmth with

mats and potted plants on the back porch. “It was a lot of fun, to see it go from an idea in your head and samples from the showroom, to see it come to fruition.” Follow C.J. on Pinterest at pinterest.com/consultantcj or consultantcj@aol.com
