355 Burrard St, Marine Building Vancouver’s best suviving example of the Art Deco style in local architecture. Tower of 21-story building that rises above a 4-story podium. Steel frame and concrete floor slabs, and terra cotta bas-relief ornaments (in pink and green).

Values & Brand Identity Canadian company founded in Vancouver in 1998, Lululemon Athletica is a technical apparel company that encourages physical movement through different disciplines such as running, weight training, but mostly known for yoga. They revolve their brand identity around the culture shared as a community, that seeks to inspire great conversations and a safe place where everyone learns from one another.

Lighting Design The Robson store displays 3 different layers of lighting throughout the store, to add emphasis to certain areas, but also as a design feature that characterizes their stores. A base layer of downlights are complemented by pendants, and cove lighting for extra luminance. Circular pendants also float throughout the ceiling to add more light sources (as they are bigger) in main spaces such as aisles in the store.

Ceiling Design The store features a mega-structure that is repeated in the ceiling design 3 to 4 times. It consists of a spiral that originates from the center of a circumference, and it is later expanded until it outlines the silhouette of the brand’s famous logo. By this, they reinforce the brand experience represented with a design feature in their Robson store that is memorable for the customer (even if they do not see it right away).

Applied Materiality The Robson store is characterized by 3D square tiles, that add texture and character to the design. In their drop ceilings, they feature a light oak color wood, and also in some other areas of the ceiling to hide track lighting. For the flooring of the store, they designed a concrete flooring that plays in tone to create some contrast on the floor that reflects the curvatures of the ceiling.
