HOW TO DRAW A CROSSAINT ?

MODULE 1

PHOTOGRAHED AND SCANNED CROSSAINT. 5

MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT HOW TO MEASURE A CROSSAINT ? A crossaint is photographed, scanned and edited using photoshop. Then, tracing papers are layed on top of these printed crossaints for sketching and hatching processes. Finally, the drawings of crossaints are pieced together according to the original scale of the crossaint.

THE MAKING OF NEW MARIO WORLD This mario world is inspired by the movie Avatar. Mario found himself waking up in a world which is rather different from the usual setting, and he was fascinated to see the world below him while sitting on a floating rock. Later he thought of how to escape this world as soon as he realised that his oxygen bubble was getting smaller gradually with time.

PAPER LANDSCAPE The making of new landscape The geometry- triangle, is the only geometry that i have used in building my modules. My inspiration also came from Federation square, where one triangle is divided into multiple triangles, establishing a rather sophisticated outlook of the building. While for my design, the concept is from scarcity to abundancy where i manipulate the sizes of my triangle cuts, creating an overall contrast from lower part to the upper part of this of art.

Peferations were made after panelling 2D and 3D in rhino software and with specific commands such as ptTriangulateFaces and ptUnrollSrf, each of the 100 modules were successfully unrolled and made physically through the repetitive processes of cutting, scoring, folding, pasting, and gluing.

INVISIBLE CITY CITY AND EYES 3 - BAUCIS According to the story provided, woodlands beneath the city is hated but also respected by the inhabitants of the city. None of the inhabitants want to go down given the city has everything they need, and for that, i have allocated the lower layer as woodlands with tombs and graves. Marco Polo was very excited to immense himself in a city full with music and joy after seven days of tiring march through the woodlands. He lean against the balustrades and was reluctant to leave the city as he was enjoying the presence of crowd surrounding himself.

Perspective 1 - Graveyards While marco polo was travelling in the city, he noticed that the inhabitants were very much interested looking through the telescopes observing the woodlands below. He was curious and so he borrowed a spyglass from one of the inhabitants and he realised that they were not just observing the tombs and graveyards but rather to beware of enemies that are about to take away peculiar children for their own advantage .

Perspective 2 - city There are two different passage of time taking place in the city. The first was in 18th century where inhabitants are enjoying the peace in life when trading flourishes and the other takes place in 19th century where the city hidden above the clouds is inhabited by peculiar children with a caretaker when they enter the loop which is safe from their enemies.

REFLECTION This subject have taught me the fundamental basis of representation in the design world. I was never exposed to any sort of design classes before as i was a science student all this while so this was a great opportunity for me to learn and apply these techniques in the future. Through these modules, I have realised that handling softwares and technical issues was rather challenging for me but at the same time i have learnt a lot and would like to continue learning and improve for the better. The concept of perpective in module 4 interests me a lot and what makes this subject interesting as a whole is the good balance of theory and coursework. Design is a continual process- often we need to revisit, amend and reflect on how can we improve on the design. Module 3 was particularly challenging for me out of the four modules as I was unfimiliar with Rhino and the construction of 100 modules was rather time consuming. There’s definitely room of improvement for all of the modules in terms of representation and construction and to further improve on my design work, deeper understanding and knowledge have to be acquired including being resourceful towards new ideas and techniques. In Module 4, I wasn’t quite satisfied with the outcome of perspective 1 as the perspective i chose was an angle looking from above and objects from that angle was relatively hard to find and scale. Eventhough it wasn’t quite successful, I have learnt that the angle of the objects in the view is quite different from looking parallel, depending on the placement and distance from the observer. Design itself is constantly changing, and to be a good designer, we often have to stay on top of latest happenings, be curious and observant towards new innovative ideas and trends. Rather than assuming we know what’s best for those we design for, its important to listen what really matters to others. Design is not just what it looks like and feels like, design is how it works. Steve jobs. 24
