WHAT'S YOUR STORY?
WHAT'S YOUR STORY? Everyone has one, but not everyone realizes its value. All of our life experiences have highs and lows. Some more than others. You could allow the lows of your life to keep you living with a Victim mindset of blame, self-denial and the inability to forgive others or you could CHOOSE to face them head on and have them propel you into a life of Victory! Choosing to be Victorious changes your outlook on life. It gives you a whole new and different mindset. Instead of seeing the glass as half empty, you begin to see it as half full. Share your story with others (become a best selling author, play writer, talk show host.) You may have the answers people have been seeking after. Realize that although it's your story, it's not all about you. Your story could change someone's life for the better.

Business Watch: IPlush Information Systems Meet USMC Veteran Vanessa Smith
Resilient! That is how many, who know her, would describe my guest article contributor Vanessa Smith. When I met Vanessa, we talked and shared some of our life experiences and I noticed something. Vanessa had a story to tell. A story that has shaped her into the successful woman she is today.
In honor of National Veterans Small Business Week, I am excited to introduce Vanessa Smith, owner of IPlush Information Systems. Vanessa served in the United States Marine Corps and knows what it takes to make it happen! She is a leader in the industry of Information Systems and has a hands on approach, with a passion for seeing people function at their very best. She is an effective listener and communicator and believes the high standard of excellence is still the best way to run a business. Check out what Vanessa has to say about being a successful business owner.
What motivated you to start your own business? My main motivation for starting my own business is definitely God inspired. Part of my purpose is to impact and change the lives of others using my God-given gifts and talents. As a speaker, I have the awesome opportunity to share with others how difficulties can become victories and that nothing is impossible for to overcome! What do you wish you had known before starting your business? You learn a lot along the way when starting your business. One such lesson is to never compare or concern yourself with where you are compared to where someone else appears to be. Everyone has their own part to play and no one can do what you have been specifically assigned to do. What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful business owner? The biggest sacrifices I have faced being a successful business owner would be my time. I am currently working a full time job and plan to transition to my business full time in the near future, but for now a lot of my work for my business is done at night, after completing a full day. Often times I work late into the night completing tasks for my business. What has been your most satisfying moment in business? One of the most satisfying moments in business for me is being able to look back and see the thoughts, ideas, and dreams I had inside of me, but was once too afraid to act upon, now become a reality, and see the positive effects in the lives of others. What three (3) pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs? • Believe In Yourself. You will be the first and last person that does! Starting a business can be very exciting, everyone enjoys the celebration of you starting your business, but after the celebration ends and the hard work begins, people will fade, and you will have to encourage yourself. Keeping your “why” before you is essential to keeping the momentum going. Everyone wants to be invited to the party; it’s the clean-up after the party that has few volunteers. • Invest In Yourself and Your Business! If you want to do business in excellence and be successful, it will cost you something! If you don’t invest in your own craft why should anyone invest in you? Your clients deserve you to be at your best so spend time making it happen, attend a conference, by a book, connect through social media. All of these tools are ways to help you develop and become the best at what you do. • Connecting with Others. This is very important. You don’t have to go it alone. Go to conferences, find a mentor, learn the language of being a successful business owner, see how other successful business owners think. If you align yourself with other successful people it will aid you in getting to your next level in business. Support other businesses; don’t make it all about yourself. What you are willing to do for others, someone will be willing to do for you! Pope Consulting would like to thank Vanessa for taking time out to share her wisdom on business and life. Until next time: Be Amazing!
