Allergen Statements — January - April 2013 Victorian Epicure Inc. complies with all Canadian laws and regulations regarding allergen labelling. Victorian Epicure’s™ allergen labelling is in alignment with Canada’s Food Drug Regulations ingredient labelling requirements, which help consumers make safe food choices. To the best of our knowledge, the information included on our labels and in our literature is comprehensive and accurate. However, given the sensitivity of some allergies, we cannot fully guarantee that our product line is free from all traces of any of the priority allergens.
Cross-Contamination Victorian Epicure™ has implemented an internal food allergen management plan which includes a series of safeguards that reduce the risk of cross-contamination between products. While manufacturing of products that contain allergens is not restricted to designated lines, we employ specific procedures to prevent allergen materials from coming into contact with non-allergen products. These procedures include monitoring of materials; thorough cleaning, rinsing and sanitising of machinery; and inspections after allergen-containing products have been produced and again once production lines are cleaned. Even with these precautions, given the sensitivity of some allergies, we cannot fully guarantee that our product line is free from all traces of the priority allergens. Please be aware that while Victorian Epicure™ cannot certify that our products are allergen-free, we have undertaken advisory labelling of products which may contain the following priority allergens: tree nuts, peanuts, sesame seeds, wheat and triticale, eggs, milk, soybeans, crustaceans, shellfish, fish, sulfites, and mustard seeds.
Raw Ingredients As per good manufacturing practices, Victorian Epicure™ only receives its raw ingredients from reputable suppliers who disclose all known allergens and take all reasonable precautions to prevent allergen cross-contamination between ingredients. However, we cannot fully control all aspects of raw ingredient transportation, packaging and storage when these activities occur outside our facility. Therefore, we cannot fully guarantee that our product line is free from all traces of the priority allergens.
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) Victorian Epicure™ does not add monosodium glutamate (MSG) to any of our products. Raw ingredients that contain added MSG are not used in our products. However, naturally-occurring glutamates may exist in some ingredients such as cheese, tomatoes, grapes and yeast. Naturally-occurring glutamates can affect people with MSG sensitivities or allergies. Since we cannot fully guarantee that our products are free from naturally occurring glutamates, according to Canadian government regulations, Victorian Epicure™ is unable to declare its products MSG-free.
Preservatives Victorian Epicure™ does not add preservatives when mixing its fine herb and spice blends. Some of our suppliers have chosen to include preservatives to prevent spoilage of raw ingredients. Victorian Epicure™ is committed to providing safe and delicious fine food products and will only use raw ingredients that contain preservatives when those preservatives are necessary to safeguard the health of our Customers.
All-Natural Products Canadian government regulations limit the use of the term “all-natural” for food products. To be considered all-natural, ingredients must not undergo processing that significantly changes their natural state. Many Victorian Epicure™ food products contain only natural ingredients; however, some products contain ingredients that undergo processing such as fermentation or smoking. Use of these ingredients prevents Victorian Epicure™ from using the term “all-natural” as a general term for its food products.
