I

t may sound clichéd but I have been making things, drawing and designing for as long as I can remember. As a child I was constantly immersed in making and drawing things such as the plethora of

paintings of my family and the carefully sculpted items for my Sylvanian Families. Lowry and Monet inspired the landscapes I painted at school and at college Jackson Pollock inspired me to paint up old violins. My fascination with the influence of art on fashion as illustrated by Coco Chanel, Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dali during the Surrealist period laid the foundations of my belief in the importance of head accessories to the fashion world. It was at college, whilst studying for my A Levels, that for the first time I met equally creative souls who loved art and fashion just as much as I did. Many made a living off what they made and sold outside of their studies, and that idea really stuck with me, so I started unleashing my creations onto others as well. After college I went to University to study music and I increasingly felt like a fashion student trapped in a musician’s body. Being in an environment where my peers didn’t have a favourable view towards fashion nor art most the time, considering both to be inferior to music, was challenging to say the least. Nevertheless it was becoming clearer and clearer to

me during this period that I was at my happiest when I was being creative. I was constantly daydreaming in lectures about the pieces I once created in happier times, and it was during this period of time that I narrowed down what I wanted to

sell, realising I had made far too many hair accessories to wear alone! Moreover I have always felt there is an apparent lack of distinctive yet fun hair accessories available on the market at an affordable price. From that moment, I discovered the wonderful world of Etsy and on a whim in my University library in 2010, opened an account with the name ‘Beau’ thought up by my Mum to symbolise ‘beauty’ and ‘bows’, and my signature ‘xoxo’ afterwards inspired by my muse Betsey Johnson.
