CALL FOR ART!

“On a whim” BAC All Members’ Show November 21st - January 5th Reception Dec 2nd 2-4pm

Experience the dynamic coming together of clay, fire, smoke, and water. Choose a piece of bisque-fired pottery made by one of our resident potters. Once you glaze your chosen piece, the Raku Crew will prepare it for firing where you can watch the glazes melt and the colors change right before your eyes. All glazing must be done one hour before firing to allow for drying. Last glazing 3:00PM. Footware is required.

CelebraciÓn del DÌa de los Muertos! Sat, November 3rd 11am-4pm

Join with the community in celebrating the Day of the Dead at the BAC. Día de las Muertos is a historically Meso-american Catholic tradition celebrating the lives of family and friends that have passed. While sharing this time of year with Halloween, it is an entirely different celebration full of culturally significant traditions. Projects exploring these traditions will be available for multiple age ranges. Most activities will be free, some will have a nominal fee.

The Buchanan Art Center is seeking works of art from its members for inclusion in an exhibit taking over our entire venue! All work must be original in content and execution. Open to all styles and media, two-dimensional and three-dimensional work. Work must be ready to display. Please see the full entry form for additional details. Membership forms may be found at the back of this catalog or at BAC.

Q A F s Classe How often are classes offered? There are four sessions of classes each year. The line-up is different each session so let us know if you are looking for a particular class! Session One runs January to mid-March, Session Two Mid-March to May, Session Three June to August, and Session Four September to December. Pop up events are always being added to the schedule! Schedules are released during the month prior to the Session.

What if the weather is awful?

If Buchanan area schools close the BAC will close as well. The BAC will announce any such closures on our facebook page as well as calling students registered for any class that day. It is imperative to include the best phone number to contact you on your registration forms. Putting our phone number in your contacts list is a help as well. It is a good idea to call ahead and we ask that you use your judgement when deciding to come to class in bad weather.

What is your cancellation policy?

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes! We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards. We can accept Apple Pay or Google Pay as well! (Although we probably can’t teach you how to use it!) We also offer gift cards!

Generally, refunds are not available on class registrations except in cases of emergency. In some cases the registration fee may be applied to a different class. Sometimes, we must cancel a class due to instructor illness, weather or other emergency. Every effort will be made to reschedule, however, if that is not feasible the registration fee may be applied to another class in that Session.

How do I register?

Does the BAC offer open studio?

You may register for classes in person or over the phone. Mailing registrations is highly discouraged as the class may be filled by the time it gets to us. Online registration is in the works but not available at this time.

Do I have to fill out a registration form every time?

Yes. A form is currently required for each registration. Not only do these forms help us contact you in case of emergency, they also help us know what classes are popular and who our students are. They also contain important liability and photo release information!

Can I observe a class?

While it doesn’t happen often, occasionally observing a class is possible with prior permission of the instructor. Please talk to our director if you would like to observe. Guardians are welcome to stay at the art center during their childrens’ class, however, we kindly ask they avoid distracting students during instruction. The chairs in the Roti Roti Gallery are awfully comfortable. And did I mention we have wifi? Some classes build in opportunities for parents to see in progress projects or include guardian involvement.

Anyone in the community is welcome to the BAC during open hours to browse our art library, sketch or paint in our sculpture garden, galleries, or classroom (if not in use by a class or BAC project - please check with the volunteer.) Mediums that require equipment or extensive setup are not allowed at this time. Students are not allowed to work in the pottery studio without an instructor or facilitator present.

What’s with the new class description format?

For the most part class descriptions will remain the same. We have updated the way we display class dates and times, along with day, suggested age and fees. Especially with children, skills do not always line up with a specific age so we have included any skills that will be necessary for a student to be successful in class, such as writing, scissor or cutting skills for example.
