About Me I am a motivated, well rounded and confident individual, with a key eye for spatial design and strong graphic ability. As a keen sportsman, I am competitive and expect high standards of performance from myself, which I also take into my work. Although as an individual I am flexible in my approach to ensure that my priorities are correctly managed so that I get the best out of myself as well as my friends and colleagues. At the same time I pay a lot of attention to detail with even the most simple of tasks. My experience as a sports activity coach for Rugbytots Ltd has given me excellent verbal communication skills, which can be applied to Landscape Architecture when interacting with clients and colleagues. Through my studies, at the University of Gloucestershire, I have developed a strong interest in Urban Design & Regeneration, which encouraged me to focus my third year dissertation on an area in the centre of London (Chelsea). Furthermore, I have enhanced my interest in how landscape and design can impact the mental health of an individual in the built urban environment. This is a principle I now hold at the summit of my design values. My passion for this profession, as a Landscape Architect, was enhanced whilst working at COE Design last summer (2016).
1
Interests & Achievements I was fortunate enough in 2009 to travel to Zambia with a sporting charity, teaching and supporting local schools. This experience has made me hungry to travel and explore new and exciting cultures. I am a keen sportsman and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, which supports my passion for sport and activity within design. At the age of 18 I was selected to join the Newport-Gwent Dragons Regional Rugby squad which gave me great exposure to a professional environment, I have also represented my university rugby union first XV in three Varsity matches, in front of over one thousand spectators, which was also an intense, passionate environment. Staying within rugby, I have officiated regional rugby on behalf of the RFU, This along side my other sporting achievements has given me skills such as management, leadership, and performing under pressure. With regards to Landscape Architecture, my passions lie within the built environment, my ideal landscape is a city scape, as it provides a hub of life and activity. In Addition through my studies at university I have tried to broaden my knowledge in particular on health and well being for both the human user and wildlife.

Chelsea Creek Year: February 2017 Project Type: Urban Design, Public Realm, Biophilia Key Skills Used: AutoCAD, SketchUp, Researching, Report Writing, Site Survey, Presentation, Adobe Suite, Hand-drawing, Planning Project Description: This was my third year dissertation project based in Chelsea, London. The project was based upon five principles of design that I studied, Biophilia, Hydrophilia, Health & Wellbeing, People Attract People & Urban Regeneration. Overall the project was really enjoyable and it allowed me to explore different areas of Urban Design and briefly introduce me to public realm projects. The chosen site will be developed into a mix use of high end residential, affordable living along with elements of creating a place that will help to improve the community, green infrastructure and economy of the area and London as a whole. Therefore, I set out to create a hub for community and activity by providing areas for gathering and leisure as well as commercial and retail development. Located on this site is a large Edwardian coal & oil fuelled power station that was previously used to power the London Underground, however, in 2002 it was discontinued. My design resurrected this derelict shell by introducing event space, shops, restaurants and a hotel. A key designed feature of the power station is the indoor parkland reminiscent of the Crossrail Station Roof Garden, beneath a new refurbished glass roof, allowing for non-native and exciting planting to thrive. The Chelsea Creek it self needed to be regenerated, to do this I proposed methods of damming and installing the creek with aquatic and marginal planting that will filter and in time improve the quality of the water body.

Lightmoor Colliery Year: January 2016 Project Type: Sustainable Technologies & Masterplanning Key Skills Used: SuDs Design, Research, Site Survey, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, Verbal Presentation Lightmoor is a disused colliery in the heart of the Forest of Dean, near Cinderford. In this project I was asked to design and propose a strategy for a health and wellbeing facility, with additional industry units, and sustainable living units. However, the main theme behind this project was sustainable technology. Therefore, I had to ensure the proposal was both enhancing and preserving the natural prowess of this undulating landform. Furthermore, I had to mitigate the contamination issues that impacted the site from coal spoil tips located in the site. The existing water body has been enhanced with planting in order to clean and bring more wildlife into the area. Water falls to the east off the site, therefore a wetland with raised boardwalk has been created to preserve the habitats on the ground. The addition of attenuation pools throughout the site will filter the grey water before leaving the site. This has been done through the introduction of reed bed filtration systems. In order to reduce visual impact and preserve the natural aesthetic the main wellbeing centre is earth sheltered, beneath the large existing spoil mounds. To reduce the cost of spoil removal all waste will be retained on site to create a sound buffer along the north of the site.

Leckhampton Year: March 2016 Project Type: Residential Development & Masterplanning Key Skills Used: Character Assessment, Report Writing, Page Layout, Masterplanning, Design, Planning, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Site Survey This project looked at developing my skills in masterplanning and producing a character assessment, whilst incorporating local and national planning policy. This site is located on the outskirts of Cheltenham with close views up to the Cotswold Scarp which is a well known AONB. I produced a scheme for the development of over 350 dwellings, a country park, a primary school, a wildlife interpretation centre and a community hub. The masterplan (p8) was a response to the information obtained from a site survey and character assessment report accompanying this project. In the report I had assessed local planning policy, alongside national planning policy to support my development. Furthermore, I mitigated issues such as flooding, nature preservation, views and vehicle routes that would have been impacted through the proposed development. Overall I enjoyed this project, and it enhanced my skills in report writing, page layout, visual impact assessments, research methodology and understanding planning and legislation.

St Paul’ s Walkability Year: December 2016 Project Type: Community & Walkability Study Key Skills Used: Public Consultations, Presentation, Research, Site Survey, Design, Planning, Report Writing, AutoCAD Project Description: As part of my studies at university I underwent a useful community based project that focused particularly on a very cultured but forgotten residential area of Cheltenham. This area has a lot of potential for an exciting culture with a buzzing community atmosphere, however, this needed to be nurtured. In order to do this in teams were tasked with summarising the existing issues in the area and further asked to formulate an individual response for improving walkability in the St Paul’s area. This involved consultation with the residents of St Paul’s to ensure that the best possible outcome could be resolved. As well as this I met with local Council Officials to understand the issues that prohibit the development of this ward. The key themes that came up were the speed at which vehicles would drive at along the main artery Road (St Paul’s Road), limited parking, security and a lack of spaces for community gathering. This project was very interesting and useful, as it taught me how to interact with communities to ensure the best possible outcome, as well as a new and productive means of surveying a site.

I have proficient computer skills, and consider myself to be able to understand and pick up software knowledge quickly. After being taught the basics on AutoCAD at university I have expanded my learning and understanding through experimentation and research. I have also worked with professional Landscape Architects & Architects who gave me guidance on how to work professionally with AutoCAD. Throughout my working experience I have been exposed to a variety practicing Architects and Engineers, which has given me a good understanding of how to deliver professional standard drawings. I have also been trained in British Standard filing of AutoCAD dwgs and have worked on projects that have been submitted to planning authorities or within a larger project team. It is advised that the road is fited with a tree root protection grid beneath the surface. This will prevent potential roots from impacting the structure of the road.
