DESIGN APPROACH:
I am fascinated by city environments and the diverse human interactions which occur within the public realm. The civic arena which our public spaces constitute, must be a reflection of our collective values and engage people across all strata of society. As an Urban Designer and Landscape Architect this interest has driven me to conceive spatial designs conscient of social, cultural and economic circumstances. The following is a collection of work samples intended to reflect some of my technical skills as well as to convey my sincere passion for the design profession.

PERGOLA LIEGEWIESE
IN COLLABORATION WITH HEIMSPIEL ARCHITECTS, THE CHALLENGE AT HAND WAS TO DESIGN A ROOFTOP GARDEN VERTICALLY CONNECTED TO A PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE BACKYARD ON THE GROUND FLOOR LEVEL. GIVEN THE PUBLIC NATURE OF THE BACKYARD, AND THE FACT THAT IT IS CONNECTED TO A MUCH LARGER PUBLIC SQUARE, THE SPACE WAS DESIGNED WITH THE INTENT OF PROVIDING A QUIET PLACE OF RETREAT. ALONG WITH TREE PLANTINGS MEANT TO PROVIDE A COMFORTABLY SHADED SPACE, THE PUBLIC CAN ALSO ENJOY A SMALL BOCCIA SAND COURT AND VARIOUS SEATING OPPORTUNITIES. THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE SPACE IS THE STAIRCASE LEADING UP TO THE ROOFTOP GARDEN, WHICH INCORPORATES SEVERAL PLANTERS FOR VERTICAL GREEN CURTAINS CONNECTED TO THE GROUND FLOOR. THE ROOFTOP SPACE ITSELF WAS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE VARIOUS DEGREES OF PRIVACY. WHILE SOME RESIDENTS, LIVING ON THE FIRST FLOOR, HAVE ACCESS TO MORE SECLUDED GREEN SPACES, THERE ARE ALSO SEVERAL SHARED AMENITIES AND SPACES. FOR INSTANCE THERE IS A RETREAT PERGOLA, PLANTING BEDS OR THE PLAYING AREA, WHICH WAS LOCATED IN ADJACENCY TO THE LAUNDRY ROOM, PERMITTING PARENTS INSIDE TO WATCH OVER THEIR CHILDREN PLAYING OUTSIDE. ULTIMATELY THE SPATIAL LAYOUT ON BOTH LEVELS PROVIDES A CERTAIN DEGREE OF VISUAL CONTINUITY WHEN SEEN FROM THE APARTMENT WINDOWS ABOVE. PROJECT REALIZED WHILE WORKING FOR

V DESIGN SKILLS ARE IMPORTANT TO A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT. HOWEVER, THE ABILITY TO DRAFT PLANS/ CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS, GRADE AND ANALYZE STORMWATER ARE VITAL IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT FUNCTION ING DESIGN SOLUTIONS. THIS SECTION FOCUSES ON THE DRAFTING OF DETAILED CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS, ENCOMPASSING PLANS SECTIONS AS WELL AS MATERIAL CALLOUTS AND DIMENSIONING SPECIFICATIONS. FOR THE PURPOSE OF THE EXERCISE STUDENTS WERE FIRST FAMILIARIZED WITH AN AMPLE PALETTE OF MATERIALS RANGING FROM ROCKS, CONCRETE TO VARIOUS TYPES OF PAVEMENTS AND PLANT MATERIALS. INITIALLY STUDENTS WERE TASKED WITH THE DESIGN OF AN ENTRANCE PLAZA TO AN ON CAMPUS CLASSROOM. ONCE A PRELIMINARY CONCEPT WAS HATCHED OUT, STUDENTS WERE THEN TASKED WITH THE PREPARATION OF DESIGN IMPLEMENTATION. NOT ONLY WAS IT CRUCIAL TO GRAPHICALLY INDICATE ALL DESIGN SPECIFICITIES, BUT IT WAS ALSO CRUCIAL TO ESTABLISH A CLEAR AND EXPLICIT SET OF INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CONTRACTOR CREWS IN THE FIELD.
