InterVol Chosen as Charity Partner in 2017 Marine Corps Marathon Rochester, NY – InterVol is proud to announce that it was chosen earlier this week by the United States Marine Corps as a Charity Partner in this year’s Marine Corps Marathon, scheduled for October 22, 2017, in Arlington, VA. InterVol has secured more than 100 bibs in the nation’s fourth largest marathon, ninth largest marathon in the world. Those signing up to participate with Team InterVol will pledge to raise at least $750 for InterVol — a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the health of those around the world by recovering and distributing medical supplies and providing medical services to those who need it the most. Runners supporting Team InterVol will receive a complimentary training program, nutritional and motivational support, and assistance with fundraising tools so they can reach their goals, both in the United States Capitol on marathon day and through their fundraising efforts. There are two levels of fundraising support: $750 and $1,500. Those runners raising $750 receive a bib for the 2017 Marine Corps Marathon and a custom running singlet. Runners raising $1,500 will receive a bib for the 2017 Marine Corps Marathon, a custom running singlet, coach transportation for two from Washington, DC, to the National Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, VA, and a private pasta luncheon at the museum. In addition, prizes will be awarded to team members who exceed their fundraising goals. Public registration in this highly coveted marathon is determined via a lotto system. However, the Marine Corps Marathon granted a limited number of registration opportunities to support only 50 Charity Partners, including InterVol.
Nicole Jones, InterVol’s Executive Director, has completed five consecutive Marine Corps Marathons and is a member of the exclusive Marine Corps Marathon Runners Club. She will serve as InterVol’s Marathon Coordinator, along with a team of volunteers. “I can’t relay to you the sense of accomplishment, pride and patriotism you feel as you are running among these beautiful monuments within the District. Hearing the supporters and thousands of Marines cheering you on is really emotional; it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen or felt before,” said Jones. “Now add in the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people around the world by running to support InterVol and its efforts to save lives around the world, and you’ve created a truly life-changing event.” Jones is planning a series of training runs at various locations throughout the Southwest and Northeast, and wants people to know that marathon running is not just for elite, experienced runners. “I’ve struggled over the years maintaining a lifestyle that would support my running ambitions. But my determination and willingness to commit to this marathon, year after year, has allowed me to balance a challenging training schedule in the midst of my busy life as a businesswoman, mother and wife. I can tell you with no hesitation, it’s my favorite day of the year.” Several InterVol staff members and colleagues from other healthcare providers have already signed on with Team InterVol. Members of the public are invited to join Team InterVol as soon as possible, as space is limited. “This is more than a fundraising opportunity,” Jones said. “It’s an opportunity for InterVol to build something larger, to get healthy, have fun and raise awareness about our mission, and we are so thankful the United States Marine Corps has given us this opportunity.” Those interested in joining Team InterVol should visit www.intervol.org for more details on how to register.
