Irish Peatland Bogs are typical in the Midlands, and sustain both a unique flora and fauna. They are listed in the Habitats Directive. Bord na Mona have begun an extensive rehabilitation of these bogs, aiming to rebuild the habitats and enhance wildlife. This presentation aims to share the biodiversity plan with professionals and locals.
There is a resurgence in demand for probiotic foods; mostly from a nutritional perspective due to overuse of antibiotics and antibacterial chemicals in our environment. This causes lower counts of beneficial gut flora, thereby affecting our immunity and digestive function. These talks aim to show how to create probiotic foods from simple larder ingredients and the health benefits of these ancient foods.

Flowers have colour and scent, each caused by aromatic compounds in the flowerhead. These compounds bring about wellbeing and can heal humans if used wisely. The bee is also attracted to the flower by colour and scent. In its turn, the bee collects healing pollen and creates honey. The herbal walk and bee talk will show the link between the bees’ needs and our own and how planting certain flowers will keep us all safe!
Gerry is especially interested in the role of the bee in the development of a healthy immune system, as well as correcting our biodiversity for future generations, He educates in schools across the Midlands. National Schools
