The Humane Society of Greater Miami Proudly presents
Message from the Chairman of the Board of Directors – Pat Wallace
I
am honored to begin my second term as Chairman of the Board of the Humane Society of Greater Miami. My husband, Milton, and I are involved with many worthwhile charities, but the Humane Society is especially dear to us. We have always been advocates for abandoned and homeless animals. Anyone who is lucky enough to own a pet knows the unconditional love they give to every member of the family. Put as simply as possible, pets make us feel great!
Very lucky dogs and cats are in loving homes, but there are countless abandoned and homeless animals who can’t speak for themselves and need our help. The Humane Society is one of the most valuable resources for them. The organization does not receive any funding at all from the government and relies solely on the generosity of the community to support its mission. Funds are raised through private donations, major fundraising events (like Pawpurrazzi) and grants. For this reason, we are especially appreciative of your financial support and attendance at this event. I am very proud to be part of such a well-run organization whose mission I so strongly support. Every animal cared for at our shelter is free from the threat of euthanasia and remains with us until an adoptive family is found. More than 300 homeless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are cared for every day at the Soffer and Fine Adoption Center. In 2012, approximately 3,200 animals were placed in loving homes. Our clinics performed more than 13,000 spay or neuter surgeries to help control the pet overpopulation problem in Miami-Dade County. In addition, staff and volunteers travel to schools, libraries, businesses, and social organizations to teach the community about responsible pet ownership. This is just the tip of the iceberg of the many services the Humane Society provides. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support tonight. We can sleep a little better knowing that many homeless and abandoned animals have been helped because of your support of Pawpurrazzi. I know you will have a wonderful time at this one-of-a-kind event. Sincerely,
Pat Wallace 2
Message from the Executive Director:
W
ow! What a difference a year makes! 2012 was a year of challenging economic times for our community and many around the country. However, during the past year, owing to the incredible teamwork of our staff, volunteers and you, we have set a new record with more than 3,100 adoptions. We look forward to helping more pets find their forever families in 2013 and engaging our community in life-saving endeavors like never before. As we move into 2013, the economy continues to bring trials to face and tough decisions for families to make which may involve their pets. With your continued support we will help every pet in our care find a new and loving home. We are beginning the third year of our partnership with the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), Miami-Dade Animal Services, and The Cat Network, Inc. Through collaborative efforts like “Make Adoption the Only Option and spay and neuter programs, we will build awareness and confront the pet overpopulation problem. We are excited that in 2013 we may be able to obtain our first Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinic. This mobile unit will allow us to provide services to underprivileged communities and reduce the future number of unwanted and abandoned animals entering our shelters. It is a privilege to work with the many talented staff, volunteers, and board members who make our Humane Society a special place. I would like to express heartfelt gratefulness for the devotion and support from our wonderful chairs and participants of this exceptional event including: Pat and Milton Wallace, Bunny Bastian, Sandy Batchelor and Nancy and Jon Batchelor representing The Batchelor Foundation, Penny and Roe Stamps, The Stamps Family Charitable Foundation, Marisa Cisneros-Rizzon, Juan Lopez, Ann and Frank Rubino and many more. You continue to raise essential funds which help us save lives every day. With your enduring dedication, we will continue to make our community a better place for all. Thank you for all you do and enjoy this very special event!

The Humane Society of Greater Miami is a limited admit, adoption guarantee facility dedicated to placing every dog and cat in our care into a loving home, and to promoting responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter programs. Adoption guarantee means that every animal under our care is safe from the threat of euthanasia for as long as it takes to find them a forever and loving family.

Who We Are... The Humane Society of Greater Miami has been helping the abandoned animals in Miami-Dade County since 1936. Today, more than 300 homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are cared for every day at the Soffer and Fine Adoption Center in North Miami Beach. We are able to give these animals a second chance by providing food, shelter, and medical care for as long as it takes to find them a kind and loving home.
companions and begin their new lives in homes around our community and South Florida. Before a pet is approved for adoption, we go to great lengths to make sure he/she is healthy, vaccinated and spayed or neutered. In addition, counseling and guidance are provided to make sure the right pet is adopted into the right home. Staff and volunteers of the Humane Society of Greater Miami travel to schools, libraries, organizations and clubs to teach the community about responsible pet ownership and to promote the human/ animal bond. Every year, through our educational program, more than 8,000 children and adults are encouraged to be kind to animals and taught the seriousness of pet overpopulation.
Thanks to a major commitment from the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), and in partnership with Miami-Dade Animal Services and The Cat Network, we are proud to be part of a collaborative effort to create a more “humane community” by increasing the number of animals who leave the shelter system alive. Miami Dade County is one of 11 communities nationwide chosen to be a partner with the ASPCA.
Unconditional love and acceptance are two of the many rewards of owning a pet. It is well documented that interaction with animals can significantly improve our physical and emotional health. The Humane Society of Greater Miami’s Pet Therapy Program brings the unique and healing human/animal bond to residents and patients of healthcare facilities, rehabilitation centers, children’s hospitals and senior citizen homes throughout Miami.
The Humane Society operates two veterinary clinics – one in North Miami Beach and another in Cutler Bay. Our goal is to end our community’s pet overpopulation problem. To meet this challenge, we performed more than 13,000 spay/neuter surgeries last year. Programs are available that provide free resources for vaccinations and spay/neuter surgeries for those financially disadvantaged people of our community.
The Humane Society of Greater Miami is a not-for-profit charitable animal welfare organization supported solely by donations, private grants and fundraising events. We are not government funded and rely on our local community for financial support.
Every animal cared for at our shelter is free from the threat of euthanasia until their adopted family is found. More than 3,100 animals every year find their human

Message from the Bone-afide Chairpeople We have a dilemma. How do we express our gratitude to all the people who in the past five years have helped us make Pawpurrazzi the most happening event in town? “Thank you” doesn’t seem enough, but until they invent a new word to show appreciation, it will have to do. So, please accept a huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone here tonight. We are delighted to be surrounded by our dear friends; people who are so generous and devoted to the Humane Society; people who know that a pet is a great and loving friend. Message from the Co-Chairman I am honored to be Co-Chairman of Pawpurrazzi 2013 with my dear friends, Pat and Milton Wallace, for the second year. This fabulous, annual event has grown into such a successful and popular affair because of their vision, devotion, and limitless energy. I am inspired by their mission to help our four-legged friends in the Greater Miami area. I whole-heartedly echo their thanks and praise for your efforts and generosity. I am very proud to be among so many committed people who have made Pawpurrazzi one of the most exciting events in town. What terrific company I have! It is also a pleasure to work with the staff of the Humane Society of Greater Miami, whose love for the animals in their care is unparalleled. We couldn’t do it without their devotion and hard work. Again, I thank all of you for your generosity. In this economic environment pets are sometimes the first to feel the brunt of tough financial times. As animal lovers, we all want to do what we can to ensure these pets are protected and nurtured. The Humane Society of Greater Miami is doing just that, thanks to your support and interest. As Co-Chairman, I welcome all of you and your furry guests! Enjoy the evening. Please take away a sense of our deep gratitude and an appreciation for the important work of the Humane Society of Greater Miami.

Hall of Fame Circle In 2010, the Hall of Fame Circle was established to recognize donors contributing cumulatively $50,000 or more to Pawpurrazzi. With great pride, at Pawpurrazzi 2010, we announced our first inductees: Mr. R. Kirk Landon and Ms. Pamela Garrison. In 2012, the Golden Hall of Fame, recognizing donors who cumulatively contribute $100,000 or more to Pawpurrazzi, was introduced with its first inductee: The Batchelor Foundation. Contributions made by Hall of Fame members and Golden Hall of Fame members significantly help the organization carry out its mission to find a loving home for dogs and cats, and to promote responsible pet ownership and to provide for spay and neuter programs. It is because of the generosity of these wonderful donors that we are able to continue to save more animals each year and offer valuable programs and services to our community. This year, we are extremely proud and honored to announce two new Golden Hall of Fame members: Bunny Bastian and South Motors, and to celebrate two-time Golden Hall of Fame Member, The Batchelor Foundation.

The Batchelor Foundation Golden Hall of Fame The Batchelor Foundation’s support for the Humane Society of Greater Miami began almost 15 years ago with initial funds committed to repair and upgrade the original shelter on 95th Street. Over the years, the Foundation has also helped with many pressing needs including the construction of an entire wing of kennels at the Humane Society of Greater Miami’s home in North Miami Beach, the capital campaign to build a new state-of-the-art Intake and Isolation Unit, the beautification of the Humane Society’s historic Oaklawn Pet Cemetery and most recently, the addition of an industrial washer and dryer for the shelter. This is a Foundation that gives back to the community in many, many ways. It improves the quality of life of both people and animals who are less fortunate. Walking the runway tonight is Sandy Batchelor with an adoptable and loving dog in need of a “forever” family, and Nancy and Jon Batchelor with their lovely Wheaton Terrier, Bear. We are very grateful for their vision and magnanimous support. The Batchelor family has chosen to share their valuable time with us and we are extremely grateful. They are a class act - following in the footsteps of George Batchelor! The Batchelor Foundation, a Florida private foundation, was founded in 1990, by George E. Batchelor, a renowned aviation entrepreneur and caring philanthropist, whose Foundation has donated tens of millions of dollars to benefit children’s health and education, environmental causes, and the welfare of animals. Numerous South Florida non-profit organizations have been the recipients of the Foundation’s grants over the years, including the Jackson Memorial Foundation, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Zoological Society of Florida, WPBT Channel Two, Miami Museum of Science, Audubon of Florida, Humane Society of Greater Miami and Community Partnership for the Homeless. As a two-time Golden Hall of Fame member, The Batchelor Foundation’s generosity and support is invaluable. We are truly grateful for their dedication and belief in the importance of helping the homeless and abandoned animals of our community.

Bunny Bastian Golden Hall of Fame With four children and eight grandchildren, Bunny Bastian’s family keeps her very busy. And nothing pleases her more! Born in Washington, D.C., Bunny stayed in the D.C. area where she earned a B.A. and a law degree from George Washington University. It was there that she also met and married a fellow law student, the late James Bastian. Bunny’s career included employment at the Office of the Solicitor in the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. After moving to South Florida in 1984, she was employed as Vice President of Southern Air Transport, Inc. until 1998. She is currently President of SAT Group, Inc. Bunny has been involved in many Miami organizations. She is a member of the Carrollton Board of Trustees, the Board of Directors of the Jackson Memorial Foundation, the Red Cross Greater Miami and the Keys Chapter, and the Gables Estates Club. She is active in the Church of Epiphany. She is an active supporter of the Humane Society of Greater Miami, the Red Cross Tiffany Circle, YPO, United Way, Camillus House, Fairchild Tropical Gardens, the Lowe Art Museum and Beaux Arts. Bunny was the recipient of the Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh Award by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Philanthropy Award of the Red Cross Sara Hopkins Woodruff Spectrum Awards for Women and the Una Award by the American Red Cross. She was also recognized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals as an Outstanding Philanthropist. Last year, she was honored as a Woman of Distinction and Caring by the Plaza Health Network and was a recipient of the St. Jude’s Honors Women Award. Bunny has chaired many fundraisers and is currently chairing the upcoming gala for the Archdiocese of Miami and is co-chairing Florida Heart Research’s 2013 Driven to Dine. We are honored that Bunny is, for the second year, Co-Chairman of Pawpurrazzi 2013 and manages to find time to support the animals with her busy schedule. Tonight she walks the runway with five of her eight grandchildren. They are walking their own beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and a newly-adopted canine member of the family. We welcome Bunny as one of our new members of the Golden Hall of Fame. She is a dedicated humanitarian who supports a wide range of charities, in addition to the animals, and is a source of inspiration to everyone who meets her. Her generosity and compassion for the cats and dogs we serve is truly appreciated.

South Motors Golden Hall of Fame South Motors has long been a supporter and friend of both Pawpurrazzi and the Humane Society of Greater Miami. Founded by local humanitarian and businessman, Charles Dascal, in 1956, the South Motors Auto Group has grown into one of South Florida’s most recognized brands. We are excited to welcome back to the runway, Luky, the South Motors mascot. Luky, beloved pet Maltese of Charles and Fanny Dascal, is joined by Pasha, a Coton de Tulear. Pasha belongs to their daughter, Jackie, and her husband, Jonathan Chariff. Both the Maltese and Coton de Tulear are recognized as loving, charismatic breeds, and these two are no exception – perpetually curious and eager to be the focus of attention. In addition to Pasha and Luky, the Dascal and Chariff households are proud to present Luky’s gregarious quartet of offspring - Maravilloso, Fantastico, Leni and Kiki. Luky’s clan are all pure bred Malteses as well, which means they are small dogs with big loving hearts, beautiful luminous coats, and a playful nature. For the fifth year, their generous contribution to Pawpurrazzi has helped us feed, shelter, and provide medical care for thousands of animals annually. We are extremely grateful to have their continued support and thank them for their participation. We are honored to welcome South Motors as one of our new members to the Golden Hall of Fame. Our very sincere thanks for their kindness and compassion. We truly appreciate their commitment to the homeless and abandoned pets of Miami-Dade County. Bravo!

Pat and Milton Wallace Hall of Fame
Who better than philanthropists Pat and Milton Wallace, lifetime supporters of animal rights, to be chairpeople of Pawpurrazzi? This amazing couple shows their love for animals and humans on a daily basis. They are parents of two fabulous sons, Mark and Hardy, who have achieved amazing heights in their careers, and they have one adorable grandchild, Liam. All of their beautiful dogs: Retired Champion Sheltie, Hanna; Japanese Spitz, Chloe; Toy Pomeranian, “Jake” it Up Baby; and Teacup Pomeranian, “I Love Lucy”, were adopted, as were their three cats – Vichy, Katy-Two, and Charlie. Somehow, all the cats and dogs know whose turn it is to be in charge. Each of the Wallace pets has a story. Hanna, the Sheltie, has won championships in every category. She is one “lucky dog”. When her show competition career was over and her owners didn’t want her anymore, she was adopted by the Wallace family. Now, she lives in the lap of luxury at Halcyon Park, the Wallace home, showing her privileged status by sleeping in their bed, on her back, with all four legs in the air – a definite sign of comfort and security. Chloe, a Japanese Spitz, was a puppy-mill dog used for breeding. By the tender age of two, she had already given birth to 23 puppies. At that time, she was no longer able to reproduce and her breeder was going to euthanize her. Thank goodness the Wallace family stepped in and made her part of the family. Now, Chloe also sleeps in bed with Pat and Milton and shows her appreciation for being rescued from her hard life by dancing on her hind legs and lovingly interacting with human friends. She is a natural “people person”. Just like her Mommy! “Jake” It Up Baby, also known as Jake, was a product of a puppy mill that was, thankfully, put out of business. “Twisting and shaking” like all little pups, Pat and Milton knew just what to name their newest canine addition! Little Jake was less than three months old and only 2.6 pounds when he ended up at

the Humane Society. Pat’s sister, Rebecca, knowing Pat’s love for Pomeranians, and hearing her speak often of wanting to adopt one, heard about this little bundle of joy who needed a home. Taking advantage of an upcoming birthday of Pat’s, Rebecca knew she had the perfect birthday gift to give! Jake has successfully found his place on the bed amongst his four-legged brothers and sisters, both cats and dogs! Newest member to the Wallace family, “I Love Lucy”, a.k.a. Lucy, is the apple of Milton’s eye. Arriving at the Humane Society at 13+ years old, extremely frail with Bronchial Pneumonia, and barely able to walk, Pat and Milton decided to give her the best possible last few weeks of her life. It is amazing that with good food, medical attention, and lots of love and care, Lucy is now, one year later, a beautiful, healthy, and adorable little old lady that has stolen everyone’s heart - except all of her four-legged siblings, that is. Philanthropy is about giving and Pat and Milton are well-known in the community as generous philanthropists. If you are fortunate in this life, you should give back to the community—a lesson that was instilled by both Milton’s and Pat’s families. And, give back they have. From healthcare, to the arts, to education, to civic organizations, there isn’t a charity they have not supported over the past 30 years. Their belief in helping others is truly extraordinary. Although the list of charities they have helped is extensive and far-reaching, the reward for helping those that cannot speak for themselves, the homeless and abandoned animals in our community, has a special place in their hearts. Both Pat and Milton are successful business people, each with a visionary in his and her own right. Pat’s resume is extensive and impressive. For 12 years she was the Chairman of Bankers Savings, a successful banking institution in Coral Gables. Currently, Pat is serving a second term as Chairman of the Board of the Humane Society of Greater Miami, member of the Executive Committee, and has served as Chairman of Pawpurrazzi for the last five years. In addition, Pat is a Director of the Jackson Memorial Foundation, a former two-term Chairman of the Foundation, and former Founder and Chairman of the Golden Angels. Also, Pat has a love for art and culture, which is reflected in her commitment to Wolfsonian-FIU as a member of the Board of Directors. She is also a member of the Tiffany Circle of the Red Cross and has received the American Red Cross Spectrum Award, amongst many other philanthropic awards. Most recently, Pat was honored as one of The Buoniconti Fund's “Women of Substance and Style" for Destination Fashion 2012, and was a recipient of the St. Jude’s Honors Women Award. Milton was Chairman of the Board of Renal CarePartners, Inc., a provider of kidney dialysis services, which was recently sold. He also was Vice-Chairman of the Board of Preferred CarePartners, Inc., a Medicare Advantage Plan, also recently sold. He was a practicing attorney for more than 40 years, serving both as a City of Miami judge and Assistant State Attorney General of the state of Florida. He has provided leadership to various community and cultural organizations, serving as Chairman for more than 20 years of the Miami-Dade Housing Finance Authority, and as Chairman of the Miami-Dade Affordable Housing Foundation. Milton is Chairman of Classical South Florida 89.7 FM radio music station and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Catalyst Pharmaceutical Partners, Inc., a public company. As chairmen of Pawpurrazzi 2013, Pat and Milton have been involved in every aspect of its planning. Their enthusiasm, creativity and unique style have made their mark on our event tonight—and we promise it will be one of the most fun parties of the year! It is a great honor to welcome Pat and Milton to the 2013 Hall of Fame. Many heartfelt thanks to an amazing couple who care so much about the animals and have hearts of gold. Their generosity, care, and dedication are truly appreciated by all – two and four-legged alike. As Chairmen of Pawpurrazzi for the last five years, their expertise, vision, and love have been the “paw print” of success for this event. Pawpurrazzi would not be what it is today without Pat and Milton. We absolutely could not do this without them! 17

However, it’s not all business for Dr. Brandt. He has quite a soft heart for all animals. His three dogs, who accompany him on the runway this evening, are a source of joy in his life and they bask in his affection. Benji, a beautiful Golden Retriever, is a loyal, sweet, and loving dog. Surya, a mixed breed rescued dog, really appreciates her good fortune and returns the love ten-fold. Tyler, a cream colored Shih Tzu, abandoned on Dr. Brandt’s doorstep, is full of both love and mischief and is adored by all. Now, nationally and internationally, Dr. Brandt’s expertise, products, and professional skills are enriching lives. You can also listen to Dr. Brandt’s live weekly radio show, “Ask Dr. Brandt”, Saturdays at 1:00 PM on 107 Sirius XM Star Radio Channel. We are honored to call him our friend and we thank him for his generosity. We welcome Dr. Brandt as a new member to the Pawpurrazzi Hall of Fame. His support helps us find homes for thousands of animals and helps our spay and neuter clinics work diligently to reduce the number of homeless pets in our community. We are truly honored that Dr. Brandt has such passion for the beautiful things in life: people and animals. We thank him for his continued dedication to our cause.

Linda and Patrick McEnany Hall of Fame Patrick J. McEnany is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Catalyst Pharmaceutical Partners, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company in Coral Gables. The company acquires, develops, and commercializes prescription drugs for the treatment of drug addiction, epilepsy, and other central nervous systems disorders. Patrick currently serves on the Board of Directors for ThermoGenesis Corp., the Jackson Memorial Foundation, and the Humane Society of Greater Miami. When not at work, Patrick plays golf, testing his expertise on courses all over the world. Both Pat and Linda support many charities in the community through their financial contributions, volunteering time on committees, as well as attending and supporting many of the charities’ events. Linda and Pat are deeply committed to helping others. Linda is an active member of the Young Patronesses of the Opera and works diligently to help the organization fund music and opera educational programs. She also has a special place in her heart for the thousands of homeless cats in our community. Even though Linda has several cats of her own, she still finds the time to be extremely active with The Cat Network, Inc., rescuing countless felines and fostering and nursing them to good health. She has an extensive network of friends to whom she circulates photos of the latest orphaned felines, trying to find wonderful “forever” homes for them. Linda, “cat patroness extraordinaire”, always there when needed, has been a true resource to all felines in need. Her passion is not limited to cats, as her beloved canine companion, Caesar, holds a big place in her heart – even for a small eight pound dog! Caesar was adopted from the Humane Society of Greater Miami three years ago. He goes everywhere with Linda and Pat, turning heads at every corner. In addition, no occasion goes by without a photo of little “Caesar the Great”! He has become such an intrinsic part of the family that an extra chair is automatically placed for Caesar at every dinner and outing around town. Tonight is no exception, as the trio walks our runway. We salute this beautiful couple who are so devoted to the welfare of animals and thank them for their commitment, compassion, and generosity. P.S. Caesar would like to extend a special thanks to his Godparents, Pat and Milton Wallace, for finding his new family. Congratulations to Linda and Pat as one of our new members of the 2013 Hall of Fame. Their support of Pawpurrazzi for the last five years has helped us help the animals in so many meaningful ways. We are extremely appreciative of all that they do.

Penny and Roe Stamps Hall of Fame Current parents of a black Labrador Retriever named Ella, and 12 stray and pedigree cats, Penny and Roe Stamps have shared a lifelong love of two and four legged critters ranging from “Chip” the chipmunk to “Ozzie Lane,” a rescued osprey. Their pets reside at both of their Ocean Reef and Coconut Grove residences, and are lovingly cared for by all members of their household. Of all of the cats in the Stamps retinue, the most outstanding was a magnificent grey tabby named "Grayvik". An abandoned cat, left to fend for his own, Grayvik was rescued from a highway approaching Ocean Reef. Grayvik adopted Penny at the ORCAT shelter at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo in May of 1996. About a year later, he boldly awoke Penny and Roe in the wee hours of an August morning to alert them to a fire which had begun to rage in the couple’s Key Largo home. The cat’s intelligence and persistence earned him the highest marks with the Stamps because his timeliness and sense of urgency enabled Roe to rescue their daughter, Annie, from her smoke engulfed room before tragedy would strike. To honor him, Penny became involved with the ORCAT Trap, Neuter and Release program at Ocean Reef, and the Stamps would eventually name the new animal center located there after him, “The Grayvik Animal Care Center.” Grayvik’s spirit lives on through the many shelter animals crying for love and a permanent home and a chance to give something back to their owners. Penny and Roe have devoted the last 20 years to philanthropic causes. The Stamps Family Charitable Foundation is committed to education through its Stamps Scholars Program offering merit scholarships in over 12 universities and colleges nationwide. The University of Michigan School of Art and Design was recently renamed for Penny in recognition of the Stamps' generosity to the University. On a local level, the Stamps are active and ardent supporters of the University of Miami, The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, The Red Cross, Barry University, Community Partnership for the Homeless and many other social services and charities throughout the region. Most recently, Penny, was recognized as one of The Buoniconti Fund's "Women of Substance and Style" for Destination Fashion 2012. On tonight’s runway, the Stamps will be walking their marvelous retriever, Ella. We are extremely grateful for Penny’s contribution as a member of our Board of Directors and for the dedication and generosity of the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation towards animals. We are very pleased to recognize Penny and Roe and the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation as new members of the 2013 Hall of Fame. The safety and well-being of the animals at the shelter continues to be possible because of their support. A heartfelt thank you for all they do for us and all they do for the animals in the community. 20
The Victor and Emily D. Damiano Charitable Trust Hall of Fame The Victor and Emily D. Damiano Charitable Trust provides many opportunities for Emily Damiano and daughter, Yvonne Eldredge, to support a variety of worthwhile causes. The abandoned and homeless cats and dogs sheltered at the Humane Society of Greater Miami are some of the proud beneficiaries. The Trust was established in 2004 and focuses on providing a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Many of the projects they support have had an impact on the lives of our community’s underprivileged constituents: the elderly, the disabled, the infirmed, at-risk children, and animals. Some of the charities supported by The Victor and Emily D. Damiano Charitable Trust are: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Unicorn Children’s Foundation, Kristi House, Give Kids The World, the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, and Charlee Homes for Children. Emily Carbonell, originally from Key West, married Victor Damiano, and, together enjoyed many years of happiness. Victor was an Italian immigrant who came to the United States in search of a better life. Through hard work and dedication he accomplished that and so much more. Victor was a successful businessman who specialized in the food service industry, providing gourmet meals to the first class passengers of BOAC’s transatlantic flights from Latin American to London. These routes became renowned for serving the very best food to their passengers. Emily is a true animal lover. Dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and, even a monkey, have been part of her life. Today, she spends most of her time with Suzette, her loyal and playful Yorkshire Terrier companion. Yvonne Damiano-Eldredge is Emily's and Victor’s only child. She is a native Miamian and an accomplished world-traveler. Yvonne, a loving mother to sons Bradley and Ronald, is married to Chas Eldredge, with whom she frequently plays both golf and croquet at LaGorce Country Club. A fun and entertaining couple, Yvonne and Chas spend much of their time with their friends, dining and dancing at both LaGorce and The Surf Club, or at various parties. The entire family shares a passion for skiing and tennis. Yvonne walks the runway this evening with her canine companion, Lady Bitsy, a little Yorkie who is living a royal life with the Eldredges. We thank the Damiano and Eldredge families for their generous contribution and their deep compassion for animals. We are forever grateful! It is with great pleasure that we announce the addition of The Victor and Emily D. Damiano Charitable Trust to the 2013 Hall of Fame. This family’s energy, compassion, and commitment to giving back to others is truly admired. Their support is greatly appreciated. 21
Irene Korge Animal Ambassador and Star-Dog Community service has always been one of the principal focuses of Irene’s life. She has three beautiful children: Andrew, Kristina, and Angela. She also has two beloved dogs: a precious 10 year old Yorkie, Tula, and a five year old adorable Chinese Crested mix, Nico. Last year at Pawpurrazzi 2012, Irene escorted Nico, a shelter dog available for adoption, down the runway and the two have been inseparable, since. Irene has a heart of gold and is involved in many charities including: The United Way, Honey Shine Kids, The American Cancer Society, Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation, Special Olympics, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and The Zoological Society of Florida. She is fully committed and gives her best to help each charity in every way that she can. Irene was chosen as the Red Cross’ 2013 outstanding philanthropic leader in the community and will be receiving the Sara Hopkins Woodruff Spectrum Award. Most recently, she was honored as one of The Buoniconti Fund's “Women of Substance and Style" for Destination Fashion 2012. Irene also supports the Democratic Party and has held numerous fundraising and social events at her beautiful Pinecrest home, Casa de Korge. These fundraising efforts have earned Irene the honor of being invited to several State dinners at the White House. As a devoted parent, Irene has always been focused on her children’s academic achievements. Not only is education a focus in her private life, but it is also an important part of her charitable life. Thousands of children in Miami-Dade County have had an enhanced educational experience due to the efforts of the Korge family. Beautiful Irene walks the runway tonight with sweet and lovable, Nico. We are grateful to Irene for devoting her time and energy to the animals and including them in her philanthropic portfolio. A heartfelt thank you to Irene for supporting Pawpurrazzi for the fifth year. We welcome her as one of our newest members of the Board of Directors.

Do Unto Others Animal Ambassador and Star-Dog Arriving from Cuba with very little, but having received so much from their new Miami community, Justino “Tino” and Alicia Celorio founded Do Unto Others in 1994, as a way of giving back. Instilled from childhood with a sense of responsibility for the welfare of people and animals, beginning in 2008 Alicia became involved with the Humane Society. According to Alicia, she “fell in love with the Soffer and Fine Adoption Center on her first visit”. Tonight, Alicia has asked the Gonzalez sisters, Kristen and Lauren, both animal lovers, to walk the runway with their dogs Lily and Lola. Kristen rescued one year old Lily about nine months ago from Miami-Dade Animal Services. Still just a pup, Lily hasn’t learned yet which household items are available for chewing. For instance, the coffee table is not one of them, but everyday she tries to get in at least one nibble. She is full of energy and loves going for long walks, playing with Rainbow, the Beagle, who lives next door, and having her belly rubbed. Lauren adopted an adorable Yorkie, Lola, from a local Humane Society. Still a pup at just one year old, Lola is quite rambunctious and gets into her fair share of trouble. When not in trouble, Lola loves to play with her feline sister, Lulu, snuggle in bed with Lauren, and go on long walks. Also on the runway is Alicia’s longtime friend, Emily Borababy, with Lincoln, Alicia’s canine niece. Lincoln was named after the road on which she was found, and is a Terrier mix who is spunky, independent, smart and loving. Her favorite activity is to visit Auntie Alicia and go to their favorite restaurant in little Havana where they catch up over croquetas and café con leche. We are truly thankful to Alicia for her continued generosity and wholehearted support of Pawpurrazzi. Her commitment to improving the lives of those in need is inspirational. She is a lady filled with love and grace.

This nationally and internationally known nonprofit organization is devoted to assisting The Miami Project achieve its goals of finding a cure for paralysis resulting from spinal cord injury. In 1985, Barth A. Today, The Miami Project is the world’s most comprehensive spinal cord injury research center, and a designated Center of Excellence at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. With Chapters in cities throughout the country, The Buoniconti Fund serves as the fundraising arm of The Miami Project. Marc Buoniconti ranks among the bravest of all men. Since his 1985 spinal cord injury, Marc has served on several local, state and federal committees, given hundreds of interviews, spoken at countless public appearances, and inspired millions with his courage. He serves as President for both The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis. When not hard at work, Marc enjoys relaxing with Smokey, his very furry Rag Doll cat with the most beautiful blue eyes. We are truly honored to have, mother and son, Terry and Marc, making their Pawpurrazzi runway debut with Mikey, a beautiful therapy Greyhound, trained and certified by Share-A-Pet. They are both an inspiration to us all and we appreciate their generosity to the animals.
Marisa Cisneros-Rizzon and Marcos Rizzon Marisa and Marcos have four lovely children, Andreina, 27, Daniel, 24, Nicholas, nine, and Thomas, six. Their canine family consists of two King Charles Cavalier Spaniels, Gwenivere, seven years old, and Dante, three and a half years old. While Dante has established his place in the hierarchy of the family, Gwenivere still reminds him she is the “big sister”. Marisa and Marcos contribute generously to many charities including the Jackson Memorial Foundation, University of Miami, the Cisneros-Fontanals Art Foundation and the Wolfsonian-FIU. Marisa has chaired the Jackson Foundation’s Golden Angel Gala several times, always working tirelessly to ensure success. In addition, Marisa is an accomplished linguist who speaks five languages, and loves art, antiques, and sports. She rides horses, plays tennis, and loves to ski. For the fifth year, Marisa is an integral part of the planning, development, and execution of Pawpurrazzi. She has done an impressive job securing silent auction items for tonight’s event. With her help, the auction has become unique and exciting and is not to be beat! In addition, Marisa continues to be an invaluable member of our Board of Directors. We are forever grateful for the support and generosity of the entire family. They are all a source of inspiration to everyone who knows them. Bravo!
Ann and Frank Rubino Ann is a Texas transplant who has made Miami her home since marrying well-known and highly successful attorney, Frank Rubino. She has a love for all things beautiful, but primarily focuses on improving spaces through interior design. In addition to her passion for design, her kindness and caring leads her to be a compassionate volunteer for charitable causes. She is on the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Greater Miami, a Golden Angel with Jackson Memorial Foundation, a Member of the Banyan Society Neonatal Care Center, and a former member of the Board of Directors of The Vizcayans. Most recently, Ann was honored as one of The Buoniconti Fund's “Women of Substance and Style” for Destination Fashion 2012. As a member of the Pawpurrazzi Steering Committee, Ann did an amazing job in securing many wonderful items for our silent auction. Frank has tried hundreds of cases involving serious federal and international criminal offenses. He has successfully handled cases throughout the United States and the world. He is a renowned expert in the field of British antique cars and has one of the finest car collections in the world. Ann’s love for animals was manifested when she rescued King, the gorilla at the Monkey Jungle, from a 20-foot cage. Ann founded "Friends of King", a non-profit organization dedicated to improving King’s life. Ann, also, fosters sick and injured monkeys by nursing them back to health. Frank and Ann have their own tiny primate, "Frankie the Monkey," who they raised from the age of six weeks. Frankie has a little canine sister, adorable Sophie, who they adopted from our Humane Society two years ago. Joining us on the runway this evening are Ann, Frank, and Sophie. We are grateful to be “friends” of Ann and Frank and we thank them for their commitment to all animals. Their help and contributions to our event and to the animals are greatly appreciated. 25
Diplomats and Doggie Darlings Helene and Marc Kovens It is obvious that the animals hold a special place in Helene’s heart, with her support for the Humane Society spanning more than a decade. During the construction of our Soffer and Fine Adoption Center, she and Marc donated funds to have one of the over-sized doggie rooms named in their honor. Presently, Helene is on the Executive Committee of the Humane Society’s Founding Fosters, and a Society of Fosters member. Hugs and Kisses, truly pampered doggies, are well known around town for always making an entrance in their doggie stroller. Their new one year old Maltese sister, thoughtfully named “Love”, now joins them wherever they go. Whether for an outing or for their weekly visit to the groomer, these pups’ feet never hit the ground. The vision of Hugs, Kisses, and Love, all together in their stroller, brings a smile to everyone who sees them. Each dog has its own unique personality. Hugs remains the passive, quiet, super lady-like dog. Kisses, the biggest, or as Helene would say, big-boned, is the alpha dog who watches television like a human. And Love is always searching the floors for anything she can put in her mouth. Tonight, Helene walks the runway with Love, Hugs and Kisses, all appearing like royal princesses. We honor and thank Helene and Marc for all they do for needy animals. We also extend a heartfelt congratulations to Helene for being honored at the Humane Society’s Founding Foster event, No Black Tie-Tails Only. Lots of “Love, Hugs and Kisses” from the Humane Society of Greater Miami to the entire Kovens family, and, congratulations on the birth of their grandson, Landon.

We thank Northern Trust and their professional family for all they do for us and the community. Sophia Joyce, daughter of Northern Trust’s President – South Florida Region, Ed Joyce, and best friend, Camila, are representing Northern Trust on the runway with a shelter dog. In addition to attending 5th grade classes together at St. Theresa, they have many interests in common including dogs, dancing, and fashion. They can often be found spending time together bathing, grooming, and dressing both of Sophia’s doggies, Miff and Nina. This is Sophia’s third year attending Pawpurrazzi and her first time on the runway. We thank Northern Trust and the entire Joyce family for their continued support and generosity for the animals.
Sheila and Frank Kuhl In 1986, midwesterners Sheila and Frank Kuhl, acquired a neighborhood framing business in Coconut Grove, Florida, after Frank retired from the Air Force. This was the beginning of a venture that would establish them as influential figures for home décor in Miami. A talented watercolorist, Sheila combined her years of experience in travel and art with her education in fashion design to achieve her dream of entrepreneurship. By producing high quality picture framing and by promoting local artists, they established an extremely successful business. Little did they know how far their traditional values, excellent work ethics, and knowing customers by their first name would take them. Today, the Kuhls open the doors six days a week to a 15,000 sq.ft. showroom, gallery, interior design workroom, and framing shop. With their talented team, they offer great advice and reliable service with superior customer care. What might be confused as a rug in their amazing showroom, is Bailey, their seven year old Golden Retriever, who proudly holds the title of Chief Mascot Officer. Every day Bailey goes to work with Sheila and Frank and greets family, friends, customers, and everyone human or canine, with a wagging tail. Coconut Grove Gallery & Interiors would not be the same without Bailey’s welcoming smile and presence. We salute Sheila, Frank, and Bailey for their second walk down the Pawpurrazzi runway. Their generosity is truly appreciated. We welcome Sheila as one of our newest members of the Board of Directors.

Diplomats and Doggie Darlings Lizette Martino Diaz Lizette has been recognized by many charities for her generosity, dedication, and support, but Lizette’s pride and joy is her family. Married for more than 25 years, Lizette and her terrific husband, Angel, have an amazing daughter, Katrina, and are very proud of her accomplishments. At the young age of 23, Katrina has already graduated from the University College of London with a Masters degree after completing her undergraduate studies from Northwestern University. Their home is also “paw-ridise” with four wonderful canine children. Mother and father Yorkies, Bella and Ozzy, and fun-loving puppy, Obi, enjoy playing with their Chocolate Lab sister, Coco, after she goes for her daily swim in the family pool. In honor of their son, Angel, who passed away in 2007, Lizette and Angel started the Angel Alexander Diaz Foundation, which is dedicated to helping children with heart disease. Angel lived his life with brilliant character, an infectious smile, and a respect and defense for the “little guy”. For those who knew him, he was full of joy and enthusiasm. He was the inspiration for the annual “Passion for Life” award given to a graduating senior at Angel’s high school, Palmetto Senior High. In addition to being President of the Angel Alexander Diaz Foundation, Lizette is on the committee for various charities including Women’s Committee for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cancerlink, Chapman Partnership for the Homeless, Honey Shine, Humane Society, Zoological Society of Florida, Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Club, United Way, the Miami Science Museum, and many more. Lizette is an avid community activist who “cannot say no” to a charity that enlists her support. The Diaz family founded Alexos Construction, which is committed to improving the housing and infrastructure for low-income areas around the world. Tonight, Lizette proudly walks the runway with an adoptable shelter dog. We thank the Diaz family for including the animals in their generosity and we welcome them to Pawpurrazzi.
Joyce and Lyman (Skip) Dickerson Joyce and Skip Dickerson enjoy spending time with their two children, grandchild, and canine grandchild, Max. An English Bulldog and world traveler, Max belongs to their daughter, Lily, and although he vacations in Miami, he lives in New York and travels between New York and Miami whenever possible. Max, also, known as “Handsome”, is good friends with all the doormen on his block. He has been featured in several magazines, a yoga commercial, and a decorating book. Max’s mother, Lily, a swimwear designer for ETÉ and an accomplished equestrian, also enjoys spending time with her horse, Mosaik. While in New York, her devotion for animals is expressed through her time spent on the Junior Board of the New York Animal Center. Skip is Chairman of Tech 3 Solutions Inc., a company that provides equipment producing electricity and heat from “green” methane gas. Joyce is a member of the American Red Cross Tiffany Circle, a former board member of Palmer Trinity School, and was Chairman of the school’s Capital Campaign. In 1998, she was honored as one of the ten best dressed for the American Cancer Society. Both Joyce and Skip frequently travel with the Chief Executive Organization (formerly Young Presidents). Amongst his many hobbies, Skip enjoys playing golf and fly fishing. Joyce’s favorite things are gardening, arranging flowers, cooking, and golf. We want to thank the Dickersons for supporting the Humane Society of Greater Miami, serving on the Steering Committee for Pawpurrazzi, and for adding “star” power by having their daughter walk their celebrity “granddog” down the runway. We welcome them for the third time on the Pawpurrazzi runway and applaud all that they do for the community.
Christy and Earl Powell Earl, a native Miamian, is the founder of Trivest Partners LP, a private equity firm in Miami. Both he and Christy have been active in the Miami community for many years. They support the University of Florida, where Earl was the Founding Chairman of the University of Florida Investment Company (UFICO), and served for seven years as a Trustee of the University. In addition to our Humane Society, they also support many animal related charities. Christy serves on the Board of Trustees of The National Young Arts Foundation and Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She is a past President of the Young Patronesses of the Opera, served as one of the Chairmen of “Miami’s 10 Best Dressed” for many years, and held several offices in the Junior League of Miami. Christy and Earl’s devotion to helping needy animals began years ago when they found a Doberman Pincher who had wandered into a barn where Christy boarded her horses. The Doberman was in very bad shape, but responded quickly to loving care and plenty of food. Since then, they have rescued and found homes for many stray cats and dogs. Christy and Earl both enjoy golfing and snow skiing. They divide their time between their homes in Miami and North Carolina and travel extensively. Christy also enjoys horseback riding and showing one of her horses in hunter classes. Joining Christy and Earl on the runway is Spirit, their sweet and loving Rottweiler, who they fell in love with the moment they rescued her. Spirit’s daily antics and expressions keep them laughing every day. We welcome Christy, Earl, and Spirit to Pawpurrazzi and thank them for their generosity.

We thank Swanee and Paul for their support for the animals and for everything they do in the community. They have hearts of gold.
Jeanette Fine The Humane Society of Greater Miami’s Soffer and Fine Adoption Center is named in honor of the Fine Family. Jeanette was truly instrumental in leading the fundraising efforts to build the organization’s state-of the-art adoption facility. Jeanette has always had a soft spot in her heart for the homeless and abandoned dogs and cats in our community. She worked diligently to achieve her dream of opening a warm and inviting “temporary home” for the animals while they wait for their permanent family. Jeanette’s dream was certainly achieved, and more! Jeanette devotes most of her time serving as a member of the Board of Directors of our Humane Society. Her “pet” project is the Second Chance Fund which provides resources for medical care such as complex surgeries, specialized lab work and analysis, and vitally needed medication for shelter pets in need. She also founded the auxiliary committee, PALs, Pets are Love, which has been instrumental in raising money, volunteering time for events, and helping our organization achieve its mission. Most recently, Jeanette won the 2012 Alliance for Aging “Positive Living Award” in the Animal/Wildlife category. This award is for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding assistance or involvement with efforts to improve the lives of animals in our community. Accompanying Jeanette on the runway is her wonderful sister, June, and her loving and adorable poodles, Scooter and Scamper. We are forever grateful for the never-ending commitment and loyalty from Jeanette. We feel privileged to call her a benefactor, but most especially the “finest” of friends!

Lola and Donald are proud of their accomplishments but they feel their greatest accomplishments are their two extraordinary children, Fern and Peter. Diplomats and Doggie Darlings The Gomez Family A love for animals runs in the Gomez Family. Flossie and Roland Gomez, and their daughter, Nancy Contreras, have been involved in rescuing dogs and cats for over 40 years. Their other daughter, Lisa DePriest, is the Humane Society’s Humane Educator, and their son, Richard, a renowned attorney, serves on the Executive Committee of the organization. Both he and his father serve on the Board of Directors. The entire family is an inspiration to all people who care about animals. Roland, an accomplished attorney for 50 years, has been recognized by The Florida Bar as one of five attorneys in the state of Florida to receive the Henry Latimer Center for Professionalism Award for Acts of Outstanding Professionalism. Roland continues to practice law with his son, Richard. Roland is also passionate about sports. He was inducted into the Miami High Football Hall of Fame. Both he and Flossie have been heavily involved with Miami Lakes Optimist Youth Programs, and, in recognition for their efforts, the city designated July 16, 2003 as Roland Gomez Day. In addition, the Miami Lakes Optimist Club named a scholarship after him. Richard has been practicing law with his father in their Miami office for more than 19 years. He specializes in personal injury/wrongful death and insurance coverage claims. After a long day at work, Richard is greeted at the door by his beloved canines, Kris and Oscar. Kris, a Chihuahua mix, was found wondering the streets on Christmas day, and was supposed to just stay “temporarily”. That was seven years ago! Oscar, a six year old Dachshund, was adopted from our Humane Society almost two years ago. Tonight, Richard walks the runway with Kris. Oscar is waiting patiently at the door for everyone’s return from the event. We thank the entire Gomez family for their generosity and dedication to animals.
DJ and Steve Kerr DJ and Steve Kerr are valued supporters of the Humane Society of Greater Miami. They have been teaching their nine year old son, Zachary, what it means to give back. In between art, soccer, golf, tennis, swimming, technology and video games, Zachary finds time to participate with DJ in several charitable organizations for children and for animals. He enjoys working hard at helping others who are less fortunate than he. Steve Kerr is President of Florida’s newest university, the University of Southernmost Florida (which is affiliated with Dade Medical College), and is a senior advisor to Goldman Sachs, where he was previously a managing director and the firm’s Chief Learning Officer. Steve serves on the Board of Directors of Harvard Business Publishing, The Motley Fool, the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation, and on the advisory board of the University of Pennsylvania’s program in learning leadership. DJ is involved with many non-profit organizations including the Humane Society of Greater Miami, Miami Children’s Hospital, Miami Children’s Museum, Fisher Island Day School Foundation, Women’s Dress for Success for People in Need, the American Cancer Society of Miami-Dade, and Jackson Memorial Hospital Angel’s Foundation. Tonight, DJ and Zachary are joined on the runway with Princess, a four year old Yorkshire Terrier, Beauty, a five year old Maltese (supposedly a Teacup but actually more like a volleyball), and Angelina, a two year old Chihuahua. DJ’s 15 year old Maltese, Tiara, an adorable and renowned model, and a star at many Humane Society events, couldn’t make it tonight. She is busy celebrating her birthday, dictating her memoirs, and awaiting TV offers. Also on the runway is supporter, friend, and couture fashion designer, Rene Ruiz, with his beloved Springer Spaniel, Dexter. The Kerr family is an inspiration to all and an invaluable resource of love and support. We thank them for their generosity and compassion.
Jacquelyn and Jorge Munilla The Munilla family consists of six brothers, their wives, children, and grandchildren. Together, the six brothers own and manage MCM Corp., a construction company which specializes in commercial property, bridges, and roadwork. The company was founded in Cuba by their father, Fernando R. Munilla, who brought up his children with the same ethics in which he ran his own company: quality, integrity and reliability. Jacquelyn, married to Jorge Munilla, the company's President, is the family's animal advocate. Currently, Jackie and Jorge have eight cats; they rescued all but one from the streets. Five of the cats live indoors: Misty, Simba, Funnie May, Scooby Do, and Bella Mia, and three live outdoors. Jackie has saved more than 11 cats in the last two years by finding them loving homes. Jorge and Jackie's two sons, James Tyler, a Junior at Villanova University, and, Julian Alexis, a Freshman at Tulane University, share the same love for all animals. The Munilla family exemplifies the spirit of giving. They not only contribute to the Humane Society of Greater Miami, but to other charities such as: the United Way, the Jackson Memorial Foundation, Rebuilding Together, American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Miami Bridge – just to name a few. Tonight, Jackie is accompanied on the runway with her good friend, Maribel Alvarado, and Maribel’s beloved “Chiqui”. Chiqui is a beautiful two year old Maltese who enjoys dancing on her two hind legs every time she sees other pretty doggies approaching her. Maribel, who also shares a passion for animals, was Miss Turismo de Venezuela, in1983. We feel very fortunate that the Munilla family has embraced our cause for five consecutive years and has demonstrated such dedication and compassion for all animals. It is evident that their construction skills are not limited to roads and highways, but are an integral part of the structure that is philanthropy in Dade County. 29

The company has a long history of working with local animal organizations by hosting adoptions and related events for cats and dogs. Pet Supermarket has been very generous to these charities and rescue groups over the years. Thank you, Steve, for walking one of our adoptable shelter dogs on the runway for the third year. We salute Pet Supermarket for its corporate consciousness and for providing invaluable resources for the beloved pets in our and other communities. Its devotion to animal welfare, our Humane Society, and to Pawpurrazzi is truly appreciated.
Ryder Charitable Foundation Ryder System, Inc. and Ryder Charitable Foundation are both long time supporters of the Humane Society of Greater Miami. As a Fortune 500 leader in the transportation industry, Ryder provides commercial transportation, logistics and supply chain management solutions in North America, Europe, and Asia. The company supports national and local not-for-profit organizations through the Ryder Charitable Foundation. The Ryder Charitable Foundation was established in 1984 to help address important social needs and improve the quality of life for many people in communities in the United States. The Foundation is governed by a board of directors which is composed of Ryder corporate executive management. The Foundation has a long standing history of funding community organizations in South Florida, where Ryder was founded more than 80 years ago. In addition to supporting the Humane Society of Greater Miami for more than 12 years, Ryder supports the United Way of Miami Dade through direct funding and employee contributions. The Foundation also supports the American Red Cross, both locally and nationally. Tonight on the runway is Bob Brunn, the immediate past Executive Director of the Ryder Charitable Foundation, with an adoptable dog from our shelter. Bob is also the past Chairman of the Board of Directors of our Humane Society and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Humane Society, the Board of Directors at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts Foundation and is a past Board member of Goodwill Industries of South Florida. We are so grateful for the continuous support, dedication, and commitment to the animals from Ryder Charitable Foundation. We feel very fortunate that they embrace our cause.
Sandy Zankl Sandy is a long time friend of the Humane Society of Greater Miami. A native Miamian, she grew up with her three sisters in a home near the Parrot Jungle in South Miami. A day never went by when she and her sisters didn’t see parrots, peacocks, foxes, or even a Florida panther crossing their yard. After having been graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in business, Sandy worked in the family business, Miami Rivet Company, founded by her father. In 1986, the business was sold and a new family business was formed, Bezan Properties. With time and the ability to give back to the community, Sandy began working with many different charities. To this day, her favorites are still the Humane Society of Greater Miami, The Cat Network, Inc., Wounded Warrior Project, and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. She has also served on the board of The Womans Cancer Association and The Cat Network, Inc. For the past 15 years, many a rescued cat, and occasionally a rescued dog, has passed through her home on its way to a new and forever family. Those that could not be placed have stayed and lived happily ever after with her. Sandy’s newest love, Winston Lee, is a shy, Miniature Pincher mix who she found on 8th Street sitting in a box, frightened, next to a bag of food. Still a little too shy and frightened, Winston hopes to make his Pawpurrazzi runway debut next year. Tonight, Sandy walks with her childhood family friends’ son, Spencer, and daughter, Jane, and their Labradoodle, Barney. We are forever grateful that Sandy is so generous and compassionate to the homeless and abandoned animals of our community. 30

A Special Dedication to Laurie Hoffman “I would like to dedicate this program to Laurie Hoffman, Associate Executive Director at the Humane Society of Greater Miami, an incredible lady. I could not have done this event without her. Laurie has a strong love for the animals in our shelter and her devotion to them is absolute. Her commitment to Pawpurrazzi is undeniable. She puts her heart and soul into this event. Laurie accomplishes everything with her own unique elegance, style, and a flair for making every event in which she is involved “over the top.” Nothing is too difficult for her—and she never complains, no matter how much is on her plate. She gets everything done, excellently. Laurie spent many evenings working until two o’clock in the morning on all the details that make Pawpurrazzi the one-of-akind event that it is. In addition to that, she oversees every aspect of the event just to make sure that everything runs smoothly and is as perfect as possible. I am so very very grateful to Laurie and I love every single moment I spend with this amazing lady.” Fondly,
Pat
A Special Thank You
We would like to express our appreciation to some “unsung heroes” of this event - people who remain under the radar and want no accolades or thanks, but have worked endlessly to make this event so special. We are referring to Donna Tallon, our Executive Director, whose love and devotion for animals is apparent to all and has contributed so greatly towards making Pawpurrazzi a success. In addition, we must recognize Dani Kandera, Patty Schmidt, David Shapiro, Lisa DePriest, and the entire staff at the Humane Society whose commitment goes far beyond the call of duty. They go the extra mile, pushing the proverbial envelope as far as it can go. We warmly thank all of them for their hard work in making Pawpurrazzi an event you will be talking about for years to come. We could not have done this without them.
With Much Appreciation Our sincere gratitude goes to all the members of the Board of Directors who are here tonight supporting Pawpurrazzi. Their devotion to the welfare of the animals, to reducing the pet overpopulation in Miami-Dade County, and to educating the community about responsible pet ownership has helped make this Humane Society what it is today. It is a true safe haven for the animals and an organization of which we can be proud. Last, but most certainly not least, a very heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at the shelter who work tirelessly caring for all the needs of the cats and dogs. No matter the task, whether it is feeding the animals, walking the dogs, cleaning all the sheets and blankets, or making sure the animals’ “home” is in great condition, there aren’t enough words to express our thanks. Kudos to the whole team!
