Philip Seymour Hoffman, who left his estate to his girlfriend
No ‘trust fund kids’ for actor years, even when his accountPhilip Seymour Hoffman seemed to value a sense of financial responsibility. The Hunger Games actor, who died of a drug overdose in February at age 46, emphasized repeatedly that he didn’t want his three children — Cooper, 10; Tallulah, 7; and Willa, 5 — to become “trust fund kids,” said New York lawyer James Cahill, their court-appointed guardian. Several times through the
ant suggested such funds, Hoffman repudiated the offer, insisting that Marianna “Mimi” O’Donnell, his longtime girlfriend and the mother of their three children, would take care of them. O’Donnell was named the executor of his estate, estimated to be worth about $35 million, according to the Daily News of New York. In his will, drafted before Tallulah and Willa were born,
the Oscar-winning actor (Capote) maintained that Cooper “be raised in a city with art and culture” — specifically, New York, Chicago or San Francisco. What if O’Donnell were unable to do so? He requested that their son visit those cities “at least twice per year.”
(IOS, FREE) The bilingual app teaches English and Spanish. The vocabulary words are divided into nine subjects (animals, clothes, colors, family words, food, numbers, people, prepositions and time). The words appear as the audio plays.
Smart Speller French (Kids) (IOS, ANDROID; FREE) The app opens with an illustration of a sun that is forlorn because the colors of the rainbow have disappeared. The student then goes through identification and spelling activities for French words, grouped into categories such as animals, colors, foods and numbers. With each successfully completed game, a color is restored to the rainbow.
Mini TFO (IOS, FREE) With a focus on general fluency rather than specific skills, the app offers four types of games that encourage imagination and storytelling — along with 10 singalong videos for young children. The instructions and videos are entirely in French.

Celebrity scoop Get more scoop online at Dispatch.com/celebrities. EPA Water on C-list On the latest episode of Someone’s Getting Fired, the Environmental Protection Agency tries to determine which employee in the communication department was playing the app Kim Kardashian: Hollywood on the job. “I’m now a C-list celebrity in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,” the Office of Water tweeted on Monday evening. “Come join me and become famous too by playing on iPhone!” The game allows a user to create an aspiring celebrity and propel him or her to fame. The celebrity status of @EPAwater was retweeted about 2,800 times before the post was removed and replaced with a “Whoops” and a “Sorry.” Yet, if EPA Water is on the warpath with the responsible employee, the reason should be about the C-list result — not any socialmedia faux pas. We the people don’t want the protectors of our environment to be seen as uncool.

Kim Kardashian, way more famous than the Office of Water
Prince George — the first son of Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge — had his first birthday yesterday. Alanis Morissette might need to add a verse to her 1996 hit Ironic: A 10-foot pine tree honoring George Harrison of the Beatles was killed by an infestation of beetles, according to the Los Angeles Times. A new tree is to be planted in its place. The 17-year-old daughter of Yolanda Foster, of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, was arrested yesterday on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. Bella Hadid, stepdaughter of music producer David Foster, was stopped at 4 a.m. while driving on the Pacific Coast Highway with a suspended license, police said. A test revealed a blood-alcohol level of 0.14, or about twice the level at which someone is considered to be driving drunk. — Compiled by Danielle Seamon dseamon@dispatch.com @DaniMariSea

The charges consist of four counts of resisting arrest, three of assault and battery, two of vandalism and one of sexual battery. EVAN AGOSTINI
