Concept Creative block is a term that anyone in a creative field can relate to and has contended with, including parents of creative students, teachers and professionals. In this campaign the creative block has an ambiguous meaning, and represents the physical work inside the show. The block itself then becomes the theme of the branding, with the block forming part of the visual identity and signage throughout.

The creative block is visualised using playful typography forming a block itself, and this robust and flexible identity can use colour in a powerful way to create a brand which can grab the attention of any passer-by. This versatile visual elements will work across print and web platforms strongly and has the potential for 3D installations and even playful animations.

Creative block’s modern aesthetic shows the college as contemporary and forward thinking. The ambiguity in the name will create a dialogue for the audience and cement the well earned reputation Leeds College of Art has for being confident, playful and adventurous.

Poster The bright colour scheme will stand out against the noise on the poster towers and the striking typography will grab the attention of passers by. Due to its simplicity, the viewer can take in the information quickly as they travel past them.

Flyer The flyer shows how additional blocks can be applied to the design to illustrate the visual meaning behind the concept further. Although the type works strongly on its own, this is a variation that could be considered. A variety of colours show how versatile the brand can be, and how brand colours can be implemented into the identity.

Invitations Here are two different examples of how the concept can be applied to a digital and print based invitation. 1. The e-invite shows how the branding can be applied to a landscape format, as well as extend upon the typographic element.

2. A VIP invitation could be created for agencies and VIP guests that the college wants to invite. These will be physical blocks that have information about the event on each side, as well as the college logo on the top and bottom. They will be small enough to be sent as a mailshot. The phyiscal aspect sets them apart from paper invitations as it makes them more memorable for the recipient.

Wayfinding The concept can be applied throughout the navigation of the exhibition. 1. On the entrance of each room a vinyl sticker in the shape of a block can be applied to the wall with the name of the appropriate course on.

2. Tall blocks can also be used to display year books and other hand outs for people to pick up as they pass them by. Phrases such as ‘Take a Look’ can be applied using vinyl.

3. Stacks of blocks can be situated throughout the college acting as a signpost for where each section of the exhibition is being displayed.
