Sure, wool pants are somewhat formal, “but you can dress them down by wearing a denim jacket,” says Peskowitz. Then pick everything else as if you’re wearing your favorite jeans.

Sailors have worn peacoats (formerly “P-coats,” named after the coarse pilot cloth they’re made of) for 300 years. So these are not going out of fashion anytime soon. And they’re as functional as they are stylish: The big collar is perfect for blocking icy wind as you travel about town.
