COMMUNITY DIFFERENCE

SUICIDE AWARENESS MONTH

SeptemberisrecognizedasSuicideAwarenessMonth,a crucial opportunity to deepen our understanding of mental health and support vital initiatives. We encourage you to engage in open conversations, educate yourself on the signs of mental distress, and offer support to those in need. Remember, a simple listening ear or a kind word can make a significant impact. It's equally important to prioritize your own mental well-being. Embracing self-care, seeking professional help when necessary and maintaining a strong support network are essential steps in building resilience. By focusing on mental health, we not only improve our own lives but also set a positive example for those around us. Together, we can dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health and foster a compassionate community where everyone feels acknowledged, listened to and supported. Let’s make this September a time for meaningful connections and lasting change. If you or someone you know is experiencingsuicidalthoughts, helpisavailable:

FROM THE DESK OF THE CEO

Dear Mission Builders,

As I begin a new journey at C&A, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible community we’ve built together. Each of you—our dedicated staff, passionate supporters, and valued partners—plays a vital role in our mission to enhance youth mental health.

I want to share a story that brought me the biggest smile this past month. A couple weeks ago, when I went in for a blood draw, I met a wonderful man. I had arrived early, expecting a long wait, but was pleasantly surprised when this kind and helpful person took me back right away. As we chatted, he asked about my job, and when I told him, his eyes lit up. He shared how C&A had been part of his life multiple times for different reasons and how he’s recommended our services to others. His excitement was contagious.

This encounter made a powerful connection for me—seeing someone who once needed help now giving back and paying kindness forward. He’s become one of us, committed to helping others and building our mission. He embodies what it means to be a mission builder. A mission builder is anyone who contributes to our shared vision of empowering young people and their families. Whether you work directly with our youth, support our initiatives through donations, or spread awareness about mental health, your efforts are essential.

Together, we create a network of support that extends far beyond our organization. Each action— big or small—adds to a foundation of hope and resilience in our community. By working hand in hand, we can ensure that every child has the resources they need to thrive.

At C&A, we are dedicated to being the leading resource for emotional and behavioral health services. Our mission is to empower families to navigate life's challenges, ensuring that every child feels supported in their journey. As we move forward, I am excited about the opportunity to expand our network of mission builders—individuals and organizations that share our commitment to mental health advocacy. Together, we can amplify our efforts, share resources, and create a lasting impact on the lives we serve.

I look forward to collaborating with each of you as we share the vital mission of C&A and work together to foster resilience and hope in our communities.

Warm regards,

Last week, C&A hosted its largest fundraiser of the year, the vibrant Let Your Light Shine event, themed "Tropical Paradise." Held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Downtown Canton -320 Market Ave S, Canton, the venue was transformed into a lush tropical oasis with palm trees, colorful flowers, and a festive atmosphere.

Guests explored an exciting range of silent auction items, from stylish sportswear and exclusive event tickets to enticing trips, including sunny Florida getaways and adventures in Pittsburgh and more. There were even options for pets and kids, ensuring something for everyone to bid on.

C&A Board President Jennifer Meek Eells welcomed attendees and introduced CEO Melissa Coultas, who shared a heartfelt personal story about the profound impact of C&A’s mission. She emphasized the importance of continuing to advance C&A as a premier resource for emotional and behavioral health services for youth and families. The dinner program featured a Q&A session with Heidi Wilson, vice president of childcare and camping at the YMCA, who discussed the positive effects of the partnership between C&A and the YMCA. Excitement grew when Diane Meek was announced as the winner of the envelope drawing, which allowed donors the possibility of winning ten times their contribution.

The evening took a thrilling turn with a surprise appearance by actor Eddie McClintock, who shared his personal journey with mental health and addiction recovery. He added a special live auction item—a Hollywood experience in spring 2025, offering the highest bidder a role in a movie.
