The title “The Way We Were expresses the strive towards a simpler time and a reflection on the past. As we mature and age we draw our lessons, values, and inspiration from the past. We look upon our parents and idols in admiration of what they have become and we strive towards a similar outcome. But this is not just a regurgitation. Ideas change, evolve, and become our own. And through that we gain the most important and undeniable aspect about ourselves, our own self-identity. We reflect this identity in what we wear on our bodies. A silent reflection and visualization to the world around us that we are unique in every which way. These trends reflect many mindsets, lifestyles, and personalities of which are told though the beautifully cut silhouettes, the subtle, yet sophisticated details and trims and the ever changing and unique personalities of prints and patterns. Clothes do not make you who you are, but they certainly can help. 2

Cotton is a popular choice among designers for its lightweight qualities, versatility, and ability to drape well over the body. Many technical fabrics such as neoprene are used as well for its ability to hold shape extremely well and create striking silhouettes. One thing that differentiates this trend is the introduction of an off white, toupee color which was derived from old newspapers and packaging. Designers such as Alexander Wang, Jil Sander and Calvin Kline use these fabrics in many, if not all, of their collections.

Fabrics
Silhouettes The silhouettes of this trend are simple yet sophisticated, using multiple layers with long draped coats and loose flowing cuts underneath. This is used to make a strong contrast of the hard exterior lines with the soft interior folds.
