2 The structure is made up of concrete beams and columns, with the exception of the steel structure supporting the swimming pool. Initially, it was decided to use hollow core floor panels placed in the shortest possible distances (6m and 4m) to keep the height of floors small. However, opting for a single length that can be applied througout the building, the span of 8m was chosen to bear the floors (which will cut costs and increase practicality of assembly on site). Precast concrete floors are used for the balcony in order to create a thermal break while still minimising the height of the floor. All loads are taken into consideration and correspond with standard sizes of manufacturers. Columns rest on the foundation on the basement level and have a fixed-moment construction.

Installation concept

Technical room The technical room is located on the ground floor to facilitate accessibility to this room. Gas counter, boiler, heating pump, buffer tanks, ventilation machines, electricity and water supply are located in this technical room. To limit noise pollution, this room is walled with 20 cm of concrete blocks and 5 cm of mineral wool.

Shaft The Navatel hotel is equipped with an air shaft that ensures the distribution of the airducts in the rooms. This system limits the size of the ducts to maximize the height of the rooms. In addition to this shaft, there is also a pipe- and cable shaft for every 2 rooms. this shaft makes the work and distribution of the technical installations much easier and more efficient. both the supply and discharge take place via this shaft.

Ventilation system The building has ventilation system D (mechanical put in and mechanical put out) to heat and /or cool the air in different areas. There are 3 heat wheels machines for residential, restaurant and pool with an efficiency of 85% to save as much energy as possible. The parking has a separate ventilation system, Jet fan ventilation, this technology is based on the longitudinal ventilation systems used in tunnels and parking’s, which create a flow of air at sufficient speed to sweep the area to be ventilated. Fans at air entry and exit points create the induction phenomenon, extracting the air and smoke from the area.

Heating System The heating system of the Navatel hotel is based on radiators inside of each room. They connected to the occupancy of each room to have minimum loss of energy. To keep the energy inside the room, there is also ventilation provided which is connected to the temperature of the room. The radiators are connected to a central control device in each floor to make regulation more efficiently. The control devices are connected to a heating boiler in the basement.

Groundwater heat pump we have opted for groundwater heat pump system for heating water, because this way we can save a lot of energy, and it is also one of the most efficient heat pumps on the market. With a groundwater heat pump, you can use the heat that is present in the ground to heat your home. It is an extremely efficient way of heating, but it does require the necessary investments. This heat comes from both the sun and the magma that is deep in the earth. We call this heat geothermal heat. If we now install an underground pipe network, this geothermal heat can be used to heat the water in the pipe network. However, the temperature of this is not yet high enough to be able to heat the home, which is why the pump uses a compressor, evaporator and condenser to raise the temperature further. With the help of a heat exchanger, the heat is eventually transferred to the central heating system in the house. The heat pump uses a (small) amount of electricity for this process.
