Derma SK4 Micro Dermabrasion Introduction

Micro Dermabrasion originated in Europe, then spread to America and the rest of the world due to its remarkable effects and safety. The Derma SK4 Micro Dermabrasion Machine is based on the principle of exfoliation, different from many other chemical peels available today, it is a dry exfoliation method that is safe to use on many parts of the body, including the facial area. By using the D-SK4, fine lines and wrinkles can be smoothed out and very beneficial for scars, to unclog pores, stimulate circulation of the skin, eliminate dead skin cells from the top layers of the epidermis and improve the skin’s ability to retain moisture, giving the skin a more youthful and healthy appearance.

III Principle The D-SK4 Dermabrasion Machine is based on the principles of exfoliation.

It can be separated; into three parts: 1. deep cleansing, 2. physical exfoliation and 3. regeneration. Every step can take care of your skin from inside to outside, giving the skin a more youthful and healthy appearance.

1. Deep Cleansing The D-SK4 Dermabrasion Machine uses the specially designed motor that produces high-pressure adjustable airflow; this softens keratinized cells and eliminates dead skin cells in the superficial layers of the skin. In addition, under the suction, dead skin cells and debris are removed from the pores giving a complete deep cleansing action. This also improves blood circulation and the skins metabolism.

It is important to deeply cleanse the skin prior to treatment, as everyone’s skin comes into contact with dust, germs and makeup on a daily basis. A build up of one or all of these can lead to problems on the skin such as acne, hyperpigmentation and many other problems caused by blockages to the pores.

In addition to external factors there is also our body’s natural cycle of cell metabolism, which causes a build up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin.

Cleansing can soften keratinized cells and eliminate dead skin cells on the superficial layers of the skin, then the nutritive matter can be absorbed more readily into the skin.

Cleansing on its own can’t thoroughly cleanse the skin, the cleanser can’t penetrate the deeper layers or reach into the pores.

The D-SK4 Dermabrasion Machine produces high-pressure adjustable airflow, and the high pressure air flow produces a spiral type suction. When normal suction acts on the pores it can’t produce vacuum even if there isn’t any atmospheric pressure in the base of the pore, with a spiral suction it creates its

own vacuum so the dead skin cells in the pores are easy to eliminate. (Imagine the wind blowing and picking up dirt and then a tornado blowing and how it picks up the dirt).

It has been proved that nutrient substances acting on the dermis are 26.8 times more effective than with ordinary cleansers; as approximately 99.8% of nutrient substances can act more efficiently on the skin after using The D-SK4 Micro Dermabrasion Machine, giving your skin a more youthful and healthy appearance.

2. Physical exfoliation The D-SK4 Micro Dermabrasion Machine utilises the specially designed motor, by spraying crystal powders onto the skin at high speed with the high-pressure spiraling airflow. Thousands of miniature crystal powders impact on every square millimeter of skin, and chafe the skin gently. By doing this it quickly removes dead skin cells. Used crystal powders and dead skin cells are then sucked back into the machine. By doing this action blood circulation and metabolism are accelerated.

Physical exfoliation differs from the chemical peels and exfoliation, and traditional exfoliation, in that it is not only acting on the skin surface, but it can’t damage the hypo dermis and form scars.

Differences from chemical exfoliation: (1) No bleeding, less pain and no heat.

(2) The skin doesn’t turn black, and will not leave scars.

(3) No chemical reaction, no inflammation.

(4) No down time or recovery time.

3. Regeneration (1) After treatment, epithelia will regenerate more quickly, renew old tissues and give your skin a more youthful and healthy appearance.

(2) The boost that is produced by the D-SK4 stimulates the skins regeneration function, increase thickness of dermis, accelerate collagen hyperplasia, build elastic fibers and recover elasticity.

(3) The crystal powder can stimulate the germintive layer to absorb oxygen, improve blood circulation and increase cell metabolism. This also helps to smooth out the skin and improve elasticity.

① Vacuum gauge The vacuum gauge scale shows 0~76. The indicating hand points to “0” when the appliance is ready to be used. 0-15 indicates a low to medium suction and pressure and 15 to 20 indicates a medium to high suction and pressure. ② Indicator light (ON/OFF STATE) When the light is on the D-SK4 is ready to be used. ③ Vacuum adjustment The dial for Vacuum adjustment is used for adjusting suction pressure and the pressure of the spray of crystal powder on the skin . To reduce the pressure turn dial to the left (anti-clockwise), to increase pressure turn dial to the right (clockwise). ④ Power switch (ON/OFF SWITCH) First switch on main power switch on the right hand side panel. You can then control the power with the on/off switch 4 on the front panel. When the indicator light is on the machine is ready to be used.

1. Left panel

① A filter is used for filtrating the used crystal powder and the dead skin cells.

The filter is fixed in the left of the left-panel. The filter is fully installed and does not need adjusting. ② A housing is fastened in the main appliance, for storing the crystal container and the empty container. Empty container is attached to the left of the housing with the nozzle up, and crystal container is attached to the right of splint with the nozzle facing down. ③Empty container, there are 3 empty containers supplied with the machine. It is used for reclaiming the used crystal powder. The empty container lays on the left of splint with the nozzle up. When fixing it to the machine, remove the white piston on nozzle 2, connect with “lable 2” on filter, and remove the white piston on nozzle 1, connect with “lable 1” on hand piece. The container should be emptied after each client and a new container fitted every 3 to 4 months. ④ Crystal container, there are three crystal containers supplied with the machine. Every crystal container holds 700g of crystal powder, equivalent to 1 bag. The crystal container is attached on the right side of the housing with the nozzle down. When attaching it, remove the white piston on nozzle 3, connect with “lable 3” on hand piece, and remove the other white piston on the side of nozzle 3, make sure there is suitable air in the crystal container for natural spray.

Attention: the nozzle must face up when you remove the piston on nozzle, as the crystal container has crystal powder. ⑤ Vacuum pipe 1 ( Lable 1), one side has been connected to the hand piece, the other side connects to nozzle 1 of empty container. It carries the used crystal powder to the empty container by suction. ⑥ Vacuum pipe 2( Lable 2), one side is connected to the filter, the other side connects to nozzle 2 of the empty container.

⑦ Vacuum pipe 3 (Lable 3), one side is connected to the hand piece, the other side connects to nozzle 3 of the crystal container. It transports crystal powder to hand piece, and sprays the crystals onto the skin by high pressure spiral airflow. ⑧Hand piece holder, is for storing the hand piece, the hand piece must be stored upside down, be careful not to distort the vacuum pipe. ⑨Hand Piece, Label 1 connects to nozzle 1 of empty container, Lable 3 connects to nozzle 3 of crystal container. Make sure that the hand piece and nozzle are attached properly. ⑩ Disposable nozzle, it is the plastic cover which makes contact with the client.

There are ten disposable nozzles which come with the machine.

V Operation of appliance Preparation: Check that the appliance is ready to work. (Both power switches on) Assist your client with removing any jewelry.

Cover the hair and hair line to stop crystals from falling into the hair.

Skin preparation: Cleanse the skin thoroughly with a cleanser which is easy to remove, tone to remove all traces of cleanser and make up.

Dry the skin thoroughly with a tissue. Never use the machine with a damp skin*.

Cover eyes with damp cotton pads, either cut to fit eye area or folded.

Alternatively cover eyes with eye shields or goggles, similar to sunbed use. * As this moisture will be sucked into the apparatus and cause a clog effect.

Operation process Select output: select the output airflow according to the client’s preference, you can test the suction on your hand. If your clients’ skin is thicker or coarser, you can choose a stronger intensity. For a more delicate skin choose a lighter

intensity.

Operation orientation: Follow diagram, starting on the forehead and working your way down to the neck. Leave eyes and neck for last, decrease intensity over these areas. Do one pass over the face and neck and then go back to areas of concern such as scars, wrinkles and pigmentation marks.

Operation strength: strength is adjusted according to the skin type. The hand piece should glide over the skin with ease.

Operation step: Support the skin when gliding, the skin should never be pulled.

Use your forefinger and middle finger of your free hand to support the skin.

Don’t hover over one area more than 2 seconds, especially when using a strong suction.

Operation time: A whole face should take about 20-30 minutes according to the skin. The treatment should be performed once every ten days. The operation time for the body can extend a little and be done once every week.

Clean skin:

After operation, clean any crystal powder on the skin with tissue or dry muslin, avoid the crystal powder falling into client’s mouth, ears or nose.

When you are sure there is no crystal powder left on the face, softly clean face with wet cotton pads or muslin.

Skin after care: Some clients’ might experience slight redness. This is a normal reaction. You can apply a cold compress as follows: 1. Cover face with towel: put the wet towel into icebox or fridge for about 5 min, then remove and cover face. When the skin feels cool it is ok.

VI After Care Pay attention to the following for the next 72 hours: 1. Moisturize with a hydrating moisturizer with no chemical ingredients or irritants.

2. Use a SPF, preferably one with a physical block between a 15 and 30.

3. Don’t shave.

4. No additional exfoliation is needed when doing a course. Don’t exfoliate for minimum 3 days if having a once off.

5. Avoid heat treatments like sauna’s and steam rooms.

VII Things to take note of during the treatment 1. Only work on dry skin.

2. The crystal powder should not fill more than 2/3 of the empty container.

3. The crystal powder can’t be recycled, or reused in any way.

3. Don’t use any crystal powder that is supplied by other manufacturers – this will invalidate the treatment and warranty.

4. Don’t put any thing in the crystal container or the empty container.

5. Storage of crystal powder is very important. Store crystal powder in a dry place in the original container with the lid securely closed, or in the original sachets provided.

6. Change to a new empty container every 3 to 4 months. If you use the filter for too long it will lead to blockages and occlusions of the filter inside and can damage your machine.

7. Empty used crystal container at the end of each day. Never leave used crystals in your machine overnight.

8. Take good care of the vacuum tube. Don’t bend it.

9. Check the vacuum pressure on your hand and adjust to a suitable intensity before commencing your treatment on the client. Don’t let hand piece hover over an area for more than 2sec on any part of body.

10. During operation, you should feel ample pressure, and see flow of crystals to the empty container.

11. When any crystal powder is in the filter, unscrew the plastic cover to clean.

Don’t touch other parts of the machine.

12. Take out the white stopper on the side of nozzle 3 to let the air come in the crystal container. It will ensure a better spray.

13. Don’t put the crystal powder in the crystal container when connecting to the appliance, because the crystal powder could be affected with damp.

IX Start up of machine Please use the appliance correctly according to the following guides and steps.

1. Switch on the powder Plug the power wire to the power outlet. Once switched on, the power indicator light will be on and the appliance is ready to work.

2. Connect accessories Empty container is attached to the left of splint with the nozzle up. When attaching, remove the white piston on nozzle 2, connect with “lable 2” on filter, and remove the white piston on nozzle 1, connect with “lable 1” on hand piece.

Crystal container is attached to the right of splint with the nozzle down. When fixing, remove the white piston on nozzle 3, connect with “lable 3” on hand piece, and remove the other white piston on the side of nozzle 3, make sure there is suitable air in the crystal container for natural spray.

3. During treatment Check the hand piece, make sure it is sterile. Adjust the output intensity and select the output airflow. Operate as in diagram from forehead to neck and then eyes, from inside to outside. Be sure not to let the hand piece nozzle hover over any one area for more than a couple of seconds. Cover the eyes to avoid crystal powder falling into the eyes.

4. Timing The whole time for the face treatment is 20~30 minutes, according to the skin condition. Once every ten days, you can prolong the time when working on body.

5. Finish treatment After completing the treatment, first turn off the front powder switch and then turn off the main power switch on the right hand panel, clean all accessories and pack them up. Replace the nozzle with a new one.

X The course of treatment 1. Improved treatment For first time or general client Course arrangement: Once a month for 5 months.

Effect: smooth and brighten skin.

2. Curing treatment Problematic skin.

A course of ten treatments, once every ten days. The course would be finished in 4 months.

Effect: Improve problems in skin (scarring and pigmentation) recover elasticity and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

3. Body treatment Rough and/or aged skin.

Course arrangement: Once a week for eight weeks. The course would be finished in 2 months.

Effect: recover elasticity and make your skin smooth and radient.

XI Contraindications 1. Do not use if client suffers from heart disease, breast cancer, hypertension, epilepsy, kidney stones, skin irritation or fever 2. Pregnant women not at all for first trimester. Nowhere on the body, but can

be used at a low intensity on face for course no 1. .

3. Do not use while suffering from a cold, flu or symptoms.

4. Don’t work over broken skin, open sores or wounds.

XII Precautions with regard to safety 1. Please read the user manual carefully, before using the D-SK4.

2. The therapist should be qualified to NVQ level 3 and have the proper training before commencing with treatments on clients.

3. If the appliance is broken, please don’t dismantle it and send it back to an authorized service center to repair.

4. Don’t use appliance in moist, humid and hot areas and should be far away from flammable substances.

5. Do not place this machine in an area, which is not strong enough to take the full weight of the appliance.

6. Be sure to unplug the main lead from the power outlet when you are not using the appliance.

XIV Special Operation Techniques The basic actions of D-SK4 Micro Dermabrasion are moving in straight lines, zig-zag lines and circles, moving softly and slowly. Because you are working with strong suction, you must tighten the skin with forefinger and middle finger when operating. Stroke length is according to the width between forefinger and

middle finger.

1. Body care Operation 1: anticlockwise circles, the intensity should be the same over the whole body. The action should be repeated one time on the normal skin, and repeated twice on rough and mature skin.

Operation 2: Fill circle with horizontal strokes

2. Parts of scar Operation 1: circle from inside to outside in a spiral over scar, the intensity stays the same. The action should be repeated twice.

Operation 2: move horizontally over spiral. Repeat 2 to 3 times

XV Question and answer Q1: How many treatments are in a course?

A: A treatment course should be repeated for the best effect. Usually, once every ten days, in a course of 10 treatments according to the skin type and the operation intensity, the operation time is different.

Q2: What is the complexion after the treatment?

A: There is no specific effect on normal skin, some one might feel a little flushed, hot, dry or tight. Apply a soothing moisturizer. Use a SPF, do not use ones with chemical screens. Avoid extreme heat; use gentle soothing products as

home care for the following 3 to 4 days.

Q3: How to use Micro-Dermabrasion safely?

A: It can be used in a clinic or salon. There is no need for anaesthesia. You must cover your clients’ eyes during treatment to avoid crystal powder going into the eyes. The client might feel a little pain during treatment, like abrasiveness.

Q 4: What is the crystal powder?

A: It is made from crude white diamonds, which are ground to a powder and sterilized with ‘y’ rays. It is used for its pliability and is only 1 micron thick, so that is why it’s desribed as crystal powder.
