Slam Dunk Festival

YouMeAtSix – The boys are no strangers to Slam

Wax On, Wax Off: YM@6’s Josh Franceschi shows off his best karate kid impression....

Dunk and this will be their third performance in so many years. Working their way up the set list, the 2008 album release, Take Off Your Colours, has catapulted YM@6 to the forefront of British pop-punk. Although many think the band’s new-found-fame is undeserved, there’s no denying their talent for writing catchy lyrics that’ll stick in your head for weeks. However, beware the jail bait! No matter how hot they may look, underneath all that eyeliner the majority of their fans are probably only 14 years-old and have got to be home by midnight.

The UK’s best ‘up-and-coming’ rock festival celebrates its birthday in May with a massive line-up. . .

Hundred Reasons

- April 13th marks the rerelease of their fourth album: ‘Quick The Word, Sharp The Action’. 2008 saw the end of their biggest headline tour yet, as well as supporting Enter Shikari in 2007, so after a chance to recharge their batteries, HR are sure to come out all guns blazing.

SlamDunk celebrates only its fourth birthday on and is promising to be bigger

– WTK received some good reviews for last year’s performance and the boys from across the pond are back to do it again. Regarded as one of the better live pop-punk bands around, they always know how to put on a show and crowd pleasers ‘Skyway Avenue’ and ‘Check Yes Juliet’ will have the masses singing every line. Although there’s no news of the imminent release of new material, Slam Dunk falls in the middle of a UK tour so there may be the possibility of one or two new tracks to go with the classic singalongs.

and better than ever....

Originally started as a club night at local Leeds club, The Cockpit, Slam Dunk is one of the UK’s best up and coming alternativerock festivals. 2006 saw the very first Slam Dunk festival and although it only featured seven bands, they were all big names; Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is... and Hundred Reasons.

About time WTK released some new material...but will they??

The following year, again only seven acts played. This time, headliners were Reel Big Fish and support included Paramore, and a very young YouMeAtSix. However, 2008 was the year Slam Dunk really began competing with the big boys. The line-up was bulked up to an impressive 28 bands, featured four stages and main acts included Boys Like Girls, Cute Is What We Aim For and Kids In Glass Houses. 2009 promises to be the biggest year yet for the Leeds-based festival. Expanding to a whopping six stages, 28 bands have already been confirmed and many more are to be announced in the coming weeks. 22

Expect big things from the one of the UK’s brightest stars; Paige.

– Marking the release of their fourth full-length album, ‘A Shipwreck In The Sand’, Slam Dunk is on the back of a heavy US and European tour. Expect lots of new material and plenty of old classics, such as ‘Smile In Your Sleep’, ‘Discovering The Waterfront’, to draw in the older crowd.

Paige – Like many of the bands at this year’s festival,

Slam Dunk coincides with their latest UK tour. Definitely one of the hottest talents in the UK, Lewis White and co are sure to win plenty of new fans at this year’s festival. With a sound much like Four Year Strong, it surely won’t be long before they, deservedly, break big time.

The Auteur

– Brighton’s best up-and-coming powerpop band, The Auteur, are out to prove that it’s not only the yanks who dominate the genre. With another single release due out April 6th, this is their biggest gig to date so expect a performance to go with it.

Slam Dunk takes place on 24th May. For more info and full line up visit: http://www.myspace.com/slamdunkclub
