This year, in time for Doggie Night, on May 9, the Town will be “unleashing” 15 life sized dog sculptures throughout downtown Danville: The Dogs of Danville, Unleashed! This public art project is a collaboration between local business sponsors, individual sponsors, Bay Area artists and the Town of Danville.

The idea was first broached at an Arts Commission meeting, a Commissioner was inspired by similar public art projects such as the Hearts in San Francisco. Danville selected dogs as the subject matter for this fun and engaging art project because Danville is such a dog-loving town.

The Dog sculptures will all be painted in a unique manner by local professional artists and placed around downtown Danville. Visitors and residents will be encouraged to visit all 15 dogs and have a “passport” stamped after visits to each dog, and then their passports will be entered into a raffle at the closing reception and silent auction on Thursday, September 19 at the Village Theatre Art Gallery. Proceeds from the auction will go toward funding similar future public art projects in the Town.
