Nostalgia is something that people rarely turn their nose up to. Who doesn’t have fond memories of curling up on the couch on a Sunday morning to read the funny papers in your pajamas? For many, it’s the building blocks of a great childhood and answers the age old question “What did you do before the internet was around?” It is rare to see a comic strip classic brought to life. However, thanks to the directorial stylings of Mike Kasin and The Village Theatre, the brilliant mind of Charles Schultz is making its way to Danville with this fun, family-friendly musical from 1967, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

These players prove that a good time will be had by all in attendance!

Mike Kasin is a familiar figure with the Village Theatre scene. He’s the brains behind Danville’s improv troupe, The Diablo Devils, he hosts the town’s annual variety show case, and most recently directed another play, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. His newest show, Charlie Brown, is a bright and vivid family centric musical that strikes all the right chords and has you leaving the theater with a full heart and all the warm fuzzies. “I love musicals,” Kasin proclaims. “And I wanted to do a show I could bring my nine-year-old to.”

It would seem that the Village Theatre has been well overdue for a kidfriendly musical featuring adult actors. Charlie Brown is the lovable and self defeating protagonist of our story. He is accompanied by his little sister, Sally Brown, Lucy, the bossy sister to Linus, and the musically talented Schroeder. Of course, no Peanuts story is complete without Charlie Brown’s adorable sidekick, Snoopy. The show even features eight dancing Woodstocks, all played by young theater professionals. With toe tapping numbers like “My Philosophy”, “Suppertime,” and “Happiness,” this witty and silly show will make you feel like that kid curled up on the couch reading the funny papers all over again.
