Danya Benson Future biography
“Did you get her hat?” Donya Benson called from the front seat of the white ford expedition, as Robert fiddled with a baby seat behind her. “Its 93 degrees out I don’t think she’ll need the hat.” Roberts exclaimed as he finally managed to click the car seat into place. “There! These things get more and more difficult to strap in it seems.” He said taking off his faded green beret. First day out of the hospital, with their new baby girl and they had to go to his company’s picnic. Well, the army didn’t wait for anyone. “You sure you’re fine?” he asked his wife who nodded as she ran her finger over the cheek of the tiny bundle of her arms. “Yeah let’s go. It’s starting to get hot.” She remarked turning on the AC. “Alright.” Robert replied as he pulled away from Darnell Army hospital driving off into the Texas heat. “You really like the name?” Donya asked. “Well it’s a little too late now, but yeah I do.” Robert replied. “Danya, simple but different.” Donya said looking at the sleeping bundle of downy black curls that sat in the car seat.
Danya Benson was born and raised an army brat. Her father, Robert Benson had enlisted straight out of high school and was shipped off to Fort Hood with his young wife Donya. Fed out of M.R.E’s and taught military cadences Danya’s little heart beat “Hoorah!” (Not really). Before Danya could even crawl the young family received orders to move to Germany. They moved into an apartment in the quaint little town of Illesheim, three hours from Munich where Danya’s Great Grandparents lived. Adjustment to life in Germany was fairly easy; Danya’s mother had already spent a summer in the Deutschland and knew enough of the foreign tongue to perform daily actions, where as Robert took classes to learn the German language. Danya’s early childhood started in Germany her preschool life was only interrupted by the birth of her bother Dylan. In 1995 Danya’s mother made a temporary move, back to the states to give birth to Danya’s younger brother. While in the States Both Donya and Robert returned to Germany with a nostalgic longing for the old US of A. A year later, plain tickets purchased the Benson family moved back home. While securing the transfer from Germany to New York had been fairly simple finding an appropriate house to live in was far from easy. With a 4 year old and a new born and working with a military salary, Danya moved around many times. By the time kindergarten rolled around Danya found herself in Schenectady in her Great Grandmother’s old house. The house was small, at times too small but it sufficed. Unfortunately, the little house only contained the growing family for a short amount of time before another house was found. In 1999 Danya’s nomadic lifestyle ended with a stable location in the next town over, cheery little Rotterdam.
Danya’s love of animals started young, her love of nature in general can find its roots in Germany. Where Danya would go to gardens and smell every flower that bloomed. Danya’s first pet was a standard poodle, black and covered in fur the puppy was part of the family so she named it as such, Benson. A year later Danya got a cat named baby. And in 2003 after insistent hints and pleads Danya started horseback riding. She fell in love with everything, the Barn, the smell of cider chips and musty hay, and a young gelding named Stormy. Stormy was far from the charismatic, graceful stallion depicted in Hollywood movies. Instead stormy was a grouchy, prideful, stubborn, and clumsy horse. But Danya and stormy bonded and went on to win in various awards in the Equine world. The final addition to danya’s zoo was danya’s pet rats Finna and Gwendolyn, who Danya treasured very much. Danya made many close friends while in school her best friend Becky Quinn, whom she met in 5th grade shared a bond with Danya like that of sisters. And when Danya’s life was temporarily changed Becky was there for her. The army life once again reared its camo clad head, Danya’s Father was sent off to Iraq. At first Danya’s father’s absence did not affect her, she remained relatively indifferent for the first few weeks. But as time grew longer and Danya saw the effect it had on her once happy- go- lucky family, she began to miss her father. Instead of wallowing in his absence Danya assumed many of the things her father did around the house. While the rest of her family seemed more effected by her father’s absence Danya felt that she had no right to complain, her father was alive and talked on the phone and on Skype with the family when he could. After a year of waiting Danya’s father returned, safe and sound.
Danya started her junior year of high school in 2009 and after two more years of tests, homework and studying she graduated in 2011 free from the chains of public education. That is until she received her acceptance letter to Cornell which became a whole different ball game from the traditional education system she had known. She rented an apartment off campus for her second year of college in which she shared with only her cat. She majored in Creative Writing aspiring to be an author of fiction, while at the same time quelling her passion for anything creative. After getting her Bachelor’s degree Danya took off a year to travel the world. Danya visited Europe, stopping in many historic places that held mysteries that had inspired her since childhood. She traveled to Newgrange in Ireland, Easter Island, Stonehenge, Rome, The orient, and the temples of the Maya. She kept track of her adventures through pictures and journals. When she finished her travels she settled back down to finish her schooling. While staying late to talk to her professor about a paper that was due the next class, Danya accidently bumped into some one. A handsome young man who carried a sketch pad, later over coffee the two talked and immediately hit it off. He majored in art his medium was paint and his artwork was beautiful and symbolic. The two fell in love and eventually years down the road they got married. Their wedding was wonderful, small and traditional. Their honeymoon, of course was much grander. Danya and her husband traveled around the world visiting new places that Danya had yet to see India, Africa and exotic destinations far off the beaten path. When the couple had returned to the United States Danya had begun writing, her mind was filled with ideas from the travels she had. After a short while of trying to live in Danya’s cramped apartment, both she and her husband found a perfect house in the historic district in Virginia. The house
was beautiful, white with large turrets and elegant Victorian inspired designs. It was a fixer upper but Danya and her husband saw it as a challenge and over years they slowly added on to restore the old place. With both Danya and her husband focusing on their careers, the couple decided to not have children so soon. In that time Danya finally published her book, a fiction novel. She was surprised to learn that after only a short while of being published her book made New York Times Best Sellers list. Her husband had sold many pieces, traveling to New York and opening a gallery which was frequented by many members of high society. Although the couple’s income soared from what it had originally started off as their lives remained relatively modest. With more time on her hands Danya grew fond of the idea of adding some one new to the family. The couple had their first and only child, a baby boy named Jude. Danya who had always said she would never have a child took the teasing from her family, and she and her husband with help from their family raised Jude to be an intelligent, polite, and independent boy. Danya continued to write, travel, and raise her son. She strived to never be pulled down by normality; she and her family had many experiences.
Notes: Ever since I was young I wanted to be a writer, so naturally it was the only choice for my future career. I love to write, it’s both a stress reliever and hobby, and so I wanted my future life to revolve around it. I also love to travel, that too was instilled in me at a young age. When I lived in Germany my family traveled all around Europe unfortunately I was far too young to remember everything clearly, I’d like to refresh my limited memories by revisiting the places I’ve been too and also exploring new ones. As for my college I do not want to necessarily go to Cornell it was just the college I had always admired since I was young and I always pictured myself walking around the beautiful campus. Writing my future biography wasn’t necessarily difficult although there are a couple details that could be elaborated on I feel as if my main goals are fulfilled.
