/ BRAND OVERVIEW

(1913 – 1966, the late 1980s - 2005)

An Erector Set (the trademark has always been “ERECTOR”) is a brand of metal toy construction sets, originally patented by Alfred Carlton Gilbert and first sold by his company in 1913. Erector consists of various metal beams with regular holes for assembly using nuts and bolts. Erector was first envisioned by Alfred Carlton Gilbert (A.C. Gilbert) in 1911, as he rode the train from New Haven to New York City. This section of track was being electrified and Gilbert watched as steel girders were erected to carry the power lines. This construction is what inspired him to develop the toy.

The New Erector, Hudson and Tender, was introduced.

The A. C. Gilbert toy company was bankrupt.

1928 Wooden cases were painted red beginning in 1928.

1940 As the world war II was on and there was a lack of metal. Gilbert developed wooden girders.

1950 Gilbert came out with the Amusement Park set.

The late 1950’s Gilbert Sr. had turned the company over to his son.

Period Two: The late 1980s – 2005

The late 1980’s The Erector name was purchased by Meccano finally.

08 /

The early 1990’s Meccano started selling its sets in the US as Erector sets. Those sets are just Meccano sets with the Erector name and imported by Irwin Toys.

09

2005 The Erector brand was relaunched under the global name Meccano.

/ OUR NEW LOGO The new Erector’s mission is to inspire people’s imagination and encourage them to experience the meaning in making and teamwork. What’s more, they develop relationships with other people while playing.

The concept of our new logo is extracted from the sketches combining with our brand mission. Each brick can be regarded as a person. We establish relationship to encourage people to build the future together. The initial E hidden in the bricks represents the brand Erector. The symbol can be seen as a part of a wall; a square in the symbol can be understood as a part of a whole brick. Viewers would have a feeling that the bricks are countless.

Visual Standards Guide

/ TYPOGRAPHY We selected Museo Sans as the primary typeface for our logo. The reason we chose it because it is a geometric sans serif typeface. The letter shapes can build relationship with Erector wordmark.

MUSEO SANS

Museo Sans is based on the well-known Museo. It is a sturdy, low contrast, geometric, highly legible sans serif typeface very well suited for any display and text use. This OpenType font family offers also support for CE languages and even Esperanto. Besides ligatures, automatic fractions, proportional/ tabular lining and old-style figures, numerators, denominators, superiors and inferiors MUSEO also has a ‘case’ feature for case sensitive forms.

BUILD IN A VIRTUAL WORLD This is a video game for players to acquire knowledge about architecture through playing in the VR world. On smart devices (generally on desktop/laptop), players in different age groups can use their imagination to create furniture, architecture and other items appearing in our life in any shape. Virtual reality, or VR, has experienced rapid growth within architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industries over the past years. What started as a curiosity has now become increasingly commonplace in architecture, real estate development, and construction. People have a very hard time visualizing architectural concepts. It’s nearly impossible for most people to fully understand what an architectural space will be like by viewing 2D floor plans, illustrations, animations or scale models. With virtual reality, we can gain a very holistic understanding of architecture.
