Aside from their basic function, doors and windows act as visual frames. There is another world or story that is familiar or strange in each of them. We are all there either as the viewed or the viewer.

LOOK INWARD DAN ZHOU

Dan started photography in 2001. She was fortunate to be guided by her mentor Luo Yongjin in the ideology of photography. In 2013, at the age of 50, she was offered a place at RMIT to study Photo Imaging. Dan is a silent observer that captures the moments that touch her heart. She is able to see the subtle things in daily life, which others may ignorwwe. Through photography, she expresses her innermost thoughts, is sensitive and enjoys the process. Black & white documentary photography is Dan’s speciality. She loves using natural light to capture portraits, architecture and the constructed environment.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This is my first portfolio. It is also the feedback for the two and a half year studying in Photo Imaging. Thank to Arrayah Loynd for her guidance during the printing process. Thanks to my mentor Robert Gale for always reminding me to keep on track during shooting, as well as helping me to modify and refine the texts in the portfolio. My thanks also goes to Eddie Javier, Robert Gale and Jessie DiBlasi for their recognition and suggestion in selecting this topic from a list of plans and RMIT who offered me a place from the numerous applicants. Thank you to all of my Photo Imaging teachers: Aleksander Joseski, Andrew Gash, Bill Burrows, Bryce Dunkley, Emma woods, Guy Little, Janelle Low, Michelle Jarni, Mike Read, Natalie Morawski, Rob Lawler, Todd Riddiford. Thank you to James Maher and Johnathon Iliopoulos who have always provided such great support of and thanks to every one of the classmates that I have studied with. I will remember your kindness and help. Book design, printing and binding are what I have always expected to do on my own. It is such a complicated process. The process has been hectic and stressful, but I enjoyed it. Thanks Ye Yue who gave me tips on the book cover design. Support from my family is the most important to me. To all my friends, I will carry your encouragement and trust in my heart. My deepest love to you. October 30, 2015
